The 7 Best Hostels in Medellin (Updated 2025)

"If you want to party, this hostel is definitely one of the liveliest in Medellín — it’s quirky and upbeat with a massive rooftop bar that makes meeting people easy. The dorms felt small and cramped and the showers are oddly located upstairs and outside, but the place is kept very clean, they offer free breakfast, and since you’re really coming here to party the other shortcomings didn’t bother me." - Matthew Kepnes

It was okay. The issue was I was in a 4 person dorm and people were "making love" in the bunk right next to mine. I asked them to stop. They didn't. This was in the middle of the night and no staff was found anywhere. I told the gentleman at the desk the next morning and he blew it off. This is unacceptable behavior, and the staff's response was disgusting. This seems like a hook up hostel. If you're into that, god bless. If not. I recommend somewhere else.

When I arrived with my boyfriend, they told us they had only one bed available, even if we booked two. So we had to sleep in one bed for two nights. The matresses are plastic and thus not really comfortable, the fans in the room were really loud and there was a huge cockroach next to my bed. We stored a cooked meal in the fridge for one night and it was thrown away by the kitchen staff. (also happened to other people) After 4 days we heard from another guest, that everyone had to leave the hostel, because they were missing some papers. When we asked at the reception they confirmed that, and said that we had to leave in the next 2 hours, but if we hadn't asked no one would have notified us. So now we had to book another hostel in the area which costs us more money and it's really annoying.

The rooms are so hot with mini fans that don’t work to cool anything down. The mattresses have plastic coverings so you just get so hot and sweaty in the night it was a really awful sleep. The staff were lovely but unfortunately it just couldn’t make up for the beds. Couldn’t stand more than 2 nights. The bar also had no atmosphere at all on a Friday night when we were there🤷🏻‍♀️ this hostel has nice decor and potential but it’s a disappointment. I would not recommend.

Not a bad hostel. The location is great, and the price is decent for what you get. Lady the receptionist was SO friendly and helpful! Laundry service was good. Kitchen was great for cooking - lots of hobs and workspace, and normally very clean. Free towel rental on request. Rooms are alright, mattresses were quite comfy, good storage underneath the beds, but when the (very loud) ventilator was turned off my room started to smell really bad. ||Cons- the hostel is really missing some social activities. The bar is meant to be cheap but is pretty average prices, and you're not allowed to bring in your own drinks. The bar should definitely offer a happy hour on cocktails. Everything is turned off/bar is closed at midnight and there is nowhere at all to hang out (the receptionist turned off the lights in the common area so we were just sat in the dark). I was expecting a bit more party so this was really disappointing. Its great that breakfast is included but it's the same thing every day (maybe serve the pineapple and toast on different plates so the eggs on toast don't go soggy and taste of fruit..?). Also, there is a big pointless ugly fountain in the middle of the common area that takes up too much space and gets in the way of the TV. Would definitely be better if this was gone. ||Decent value for money overall but there are some fixes that could be made for a more social vibe.

Please invest in some fans that are not broken and therefore unbearably loud. In a 12 pax dorm room without any or at least not enough air flow it's too hot to sleep and also, every time you re-enter the room you smell how disgusting a room is in that 12 ppl slept for a night. The location is really good tho, so the place has a high potential.

This place is awesome to meet new people fast, especially if you speak Spanish. I also liked the kitchen a lot, as it saved my low budged travelling ass

Attention, there is no morning buffet as suggested on some pictures. But if you order a portion, it will be ready for you within a few minutes. The portions were too small for me and there are only seconds for a fee.

I stayed at Purple Monkey twice on my recent trip through Colombia. Staff were all very friendly and the location is excellent. There was a good atmosphere on the terrace in the evenings, and I enjoyed lounging in a hammock on my lazy days. The offer a laundry service with free towels, both of which highly appreciated. Would strongly recommend!
