You Can Book Prince's "Purple Rain" House on Airbnb - AFAR

"This Minneapolis film house, long a pilgrimage site for the artist's fans, has been turned into a limited Airbnb Icons stay offering 25 one-night bookings. The interior includes an exact replica of the Kid's bedroom with sheet music, instruments, lavender-hued lighting and a mural of eyes over the bed; a bathroom tribute to the “When Doves Cry” video featuring a claw-foot tub, stained glass, plush purple robes and lavender bath bombs; a closet stocked with ’80s outfits, wigs, accessories and makeup; and original costume pieces—such as the purple trench coat and ruffled white shirt—displayed behind glass. Music-centric touches include a vintage ’80s stereo loaded with inspirational tracks, a lounge with instruments and instructions (including how to play the song’s chorus with pre-recorded audio of the Kid), and the artist's personal tape collection with a demo recording. The stays run between October 26 and December 14, 2024, reservation requests open October 2–6, winners may bring up to three guests, the cost is $7 per person, and guests are responsible for travel to Minneapolis." - Bailey Berg

Google
It's been completely remodeled and doesn't really look like the original house anymore. It's in a neighborhood with free street parking. I saw some reviews mention the area not being very safe, but I went in the afternoon and it was perfectly fine.

Great background for pictures. We wish they would open it up for rental property.

Andrea Lochan

It's been remodeled, so it doesn't look like it did in the movie, but it was still nice to drive by and see it.

I was more excited about being at the house than the house itself. The house is nothing fancy but it was cool just being there. The house was empty and there is no indication that the house is even connected to Purple Rain or Prince. The neighborhood seemed quiet with a few neighbors out.

The K Green Show

Google
Nothing really to see here at this point as they have erected a fence around it while it apparently is being remodeled. Parked a beater pickup in front, maybe to deter folks like me from randomly riding by and taking photos. Oops. At any rate, it's not worth the ride by at this point.

Kacey Frierson

Google
It's been remodeled outside, so it took away a little nostalgia for me but still enjoyed seeing it. **I didn't go inside the house**

That's one checked off the bucket list! The place is mostly unkempt, but I attribute it to no one living there. It is within a neighborhood, so keep it respectful. Regardless...a must visit if in the area! A piece of music/movie history! Prince4ever💜

Google
I was amazed when I found out about this house 24 hours earlier. One of my favourite movies growing up as well as a huge Prince fan! I only wish we could've gone inside or had something else to do here, a plaque or some signage would've been nice

Yelp
This is probably not the house that you are thinking about. This is the house from the movie Purple Rain that Prince lived in. Don't mistake it for Paisley Park, the actually place that prince lived in and recorded. It is just a little old house, that is not very well maintained and looks vacant. It is locate in a event neighborhood, located just outside of downtown. You can easily find street parking available near or in front of the house. As a Prince fan, and a huge lover of the movie, I just had to check it out. I will probably have to review the movie though and compare the house now to when it was in the film. The rumor is that Prince had secretly purchased the house before his death. It do not know if it is true or not. What is true is that there are no special markings placed in front of the house letting you know its significance. It is just plain. For me I would have normally given it two stars, but out of respect for the Purple On, I bumped it up to three. I will be honest, I would not have known this was the house from the movie other than a Google search and would have passed it by many times without even knowing. If you do make it here, this is definitely not a long stop. I would say about 5 minutes tops. Also, remember to be respectfully of. The neighborhood's residents, as the house is not on a movie set, but in an actual neighborhood.

Yelp
Wendy and Lisa (from Purple Rain) now own the house and it will be available to rent in September 2024.

Yelp
Nice place to visit especially if you was a huge prince fan and a big fan of the movie purple rain, no you can't go inside the house but at least you can take pictures in front of it, it's in a safe area so you really don't have to worry about much due to the area being known for tourist visiting.

Yelp
So here's the house we all dreamed of in the eighties!!!! Every Prince fan and literally their mother dreamed off being whisked away into Prince's home through the back steps down into his room. The stairs are no longer there, but it's easily identifiable from the street! It is privately owned and you can see it clearly from the street and if you drive through the alley you can also see the back entry.

Yelp
My friend says her aunt grew up right next door. It's a totally unassuming little house, worth walking past so you can check off a pop culture bucket list type of thing. Enough else in the neighborhood that you can make the trip and then go to do something else.

Yelp
What a wonderful gem! So happy to have spent a few precious minutes here. It remains unoccupied in this very quiet and charming neighborhood. We stopped by to snap a few photos and were delighted that the neighbors weren't cranky. It's a wonderful piece of history.

Yelp
It's sad, the house looks unkept. Not the house Prince grew up in, used only for the movie. Nostalgic

Yelp
If you are a die hard Prince fan, this is a must see. What a weird feeling to see it in person. Looks the same as in the movie. The house is currently unoccupied. You can only see the outside. It is not open for tours.

Yelp
Great tourist stop if your in Minnesota . The original house from the movie purple rain.
