12 Airlines With Affordable Business Class Flights to Iceland, Portugal, and Beyond | Condé Nast Traveler

"I observe that Qatar’s Business Class Lite and Classic fares unbundle airport perks like lounge access and pre-check seat selection but still allow passengers to book the celebrated Qsuites product with fully closing doors and a spacious lie-flat seat (about 79 inches long and 21 inches wide) and impeccable service; example pricing showed a significant gap between fare types on New York–Doha (Business Class Classic about $6,268 vs Business Elite $8,810)." - Jessica Puckett

I had a very disappointing experience with Qatar Airways. I was traveling with my 12-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter from JFK to Beirut, transiting through Doha. Due to regional tensions, our connecting flight was delayed — which we understood — but the way it was handled was unacceptable. We waited 9 hours with no clear updates, then were told the flight was rescheduled for the next day. No hotel or basic services were offered until we argued with staff, and even then, it took 7 more hours just to get a shuttle. In total, we waited 16 hours at the airport with two young kids. When we finally arrived in Beirut, none of our six bags arrived. A truly frustrating and exhausting experience. Airlines should be judged on how they handle difficult situations — and sadly, Qatar Airways failed this test.

I recently had the pleasure of flying with Qatar Airways from JFK to KTM with a transit in Doha, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the experience! As a first-time passenger, I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service provided by the staff throughout the journey. One of the highlights was being upgraded to business class for the Doha to KTM leg—what a treat! The spacious seating and added comfort made a significant difference, allowing me to arrive feeling refreshed. The onboard cuisine truly stood out; every dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious, reflecting Qatar Airways' commitment to quality. I was impressed by the airline's commitment to philanthropic causes. It’s heartwarming to see a company that not only prioritizes excellent service but also contributes positively to the community. Overall, I had a fantastic experience with Qatar Airways, and I will definitely choose them for my future travels. Their attention to detail, outstanding customer service, and dedication to social responsibility make them a standout airline. Highly recommend to anyone flying internationally—once you fly Qatar Airways, you won’t want to fly with anyone else!

The staff were trying hard to be helpful and friendly. Appreciate that. The counter is open only 2-3 hours before the flight. Many passengers came too early and should wait, sitting or lying down on the floor. There supposed to be chairs for the waiting passengers.

I love your service and I often use your airline but let’s me to tell you something. Today from NYC to TBS flight was cancelled (That is fine, all us always have emergency situations) but main problem is, when during this time I was in JFK airport , New York , ai was so confused, because I didn’t know what happened, because I didn’t got any Email be I was informed about this. I wanted to they, your employees to help me to what happened, why it was cancelled and when I could fly. They didn’t had any answers , even they didn’t tried to help me, because I didn’t had USA SIM card to call call centers. They given me some paper and told me, you can find number here and call by yourself. I tried to call but couldn’t because it was almost impossible I had not SIM card. After a while, they told me maybe you cancelled by yourself ticket and you don’t remember, and they made me mad. I don’t know what did you have like this employee, why they working there if they don’t welcome to help with people because this is his job. I was still stressed because I was first time and alone in huge city , and they didn’t help me anymore. I always had a hope Qatar was not just airline who was just selling ticket, it was more then airline when I was feeling save and take care. But now when I got this situation I am fell so uncomfortable and disappointed.

As someone who values high standards of service, I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience flying with Qatar Airways on Flight QR702 from New York to Doha on January 12, 2025. Qatar Airways is often praised for its luxurious service, but when things went wrong during my journey, I was met with a complete lack of empathy and support, leaving me deeply frustrated and disappointed. During the flight, I was burned by scalding coffee spilled by a member of the cabin crew, resulting in first-degree burns. The pain was intense, yet the crew provided minimal care and seemed completely indifferent to my situation. Despite being visibly injured and in discomfort, I was largely ignored for the rest of the flight. When I asked for further assistance, my concerns were dismissed, and I was left to suffer in silence. Upon arrival in Doha, the lack of support continued. I was treated with disregard by the ground staff, and when I sought medical help, the airport clinic staff mocked my injuries, which added to my distress. I was then stranded, unable to get rebooked onto my connecting flight for hours, despite having medical clearance to travel. It wasn’t until I reached out through social media that I was finally given any attention. At no point did anyone at Qatar Airways show any real concern for my well-being or even attempt to offer a meaningful resolution. What was particularly troubling, though, was the way I was treated as a solo traveler. The dismissive attitude I faced, coupled with the lack of empathy, made me feel invisible and disregarded, as if my distress wasn’t worth their time or effort. This wasn’t just about the inconvenience – it was about the emotional toll of being left in a vulnerable position without any clear support. My vacation, which was meant to be a time of rest and family bonding, was completely derailed. Instead of enjoying the sights and spending time with loved ones, I spent my days dealing with ongoing medical care for my burns. The emotional and physical strain from this experience was overwhelming, and what made it worse was the complete absence of any sincere apology or acknowledgment from Qatar Airways. What made the situation worse was how Qatar Airways failed to provide any genuine apology or show sincere remorse for the traumatic experience I went through. A simple, heartfelt apology or even a gesture of empathy would have gone a long way in easing the emotional toll of this ordeal. But instead, I was left feeling invisible, unimportant, and as if my distress did not matter. While Qatar Airways markets itself as a global leader in customer service, it’s clear that when things go wrong, their commitment to passengers falters. This experience showed me that the airline’s focus on luxury and comfort is only skin deep. When faced with a distressed passenger, there is no system in place to help or support them effectively. The lack of empathy and professionalism was truly shocking. For anyone, particularly those traveling solo, I urge you to think carefully before choosing Qatar Airways. When emergencies or unexpected situations arise, this airline may not be there to support you as they claim to be. It’s a painful reminder that customer service goes far beyond just a smooth flight – it’s about how an airline treats you when things don’t go as planned. Sadly, in my case, Qatar Airways failed to live up to the standards they boast about.

Google
Very professional and courteous staff, overall. Plane was clean. Meals were hot. Bread products should be stored frozen and heated before serving so that it's not like cardboard. Other than that great flight experience. Recommended.

This was my first time flying with this airline and at first they seemed very orgnized but on the flights back it was very bad.. Dirty forks and spoons I mean like black old food on it,and the crazy thing I didn't see it until I already ate off the spoon but needless to say I got sick so on the 3rd flight with them it was very hot and stink on the plane so add to the fact of me not feeling good after eating from them. I tried to ask the lady can I move more in the empty rows just in case I have to let it go..she responds with NO but you can try to go walk it off before we take off. Those rows seats remained open and empty the whole flight .luckily this man gave me something called limon grass oil that helped me keep everything down..

Yelp
Qatar airways is my favorite airline. They really take care of you from the time you leave JFK, all throughout the flight and once you've reached your destination. When passengers going through bag check and security etc. are fussy and stressed out, the staff is calm and in control. Desk staff and flight attendants are so sharply dressed and done up pretty. You get goodies, even when you fly economy-blankets, pillows and a dental kit. Also, Qatar is gonna FEED you! On my most recent getaway to Malaysia, I must have eaten 3 square meals or 2 full meals and a big snack. They don't charge extra for booze and bubbly in flight either. I've experienced their business class before on a flight to Zanzibar. It was wonderful. I would choose Qatar Airways over any of the other airlines for international travel.

Yelp
The Qatar airlines service from JFK was very professional and the checkin was not confusing. Everyone that assisted me from Qatar airlines were all polite. The food on the airline was good. The hospitality all in all is a 9/10. I would fly with Qatar airlines again !

Yelp
It was a horrible experience my first time flying Qatar Airways. , my flight was delayed 45 minutes at JFK, I didn't sweat it because I would still have another hour before my transfer flight took off at Doha. But no, it took an additional hour and 15 minutes of flight time. Did the pilots have a light foot on the gas? So, I missed my connecting flight to Davao via Manlla. I went to the Qatar service desk, and the best they could do was another flight, that left 8 hours later at 3 AM, with an additional 4-hour layover in Cebu before I got to Davao. which meant I will be in Davao close to midnight and I would lose a whole day of vacationing. Keep in mind if I was willing to do 12-hour layovers I could have saved hundreds of dollars on my plane fare when I first booked my flight. Since this was all Qatar's fault the least Qatar Airways could have done was let me stay in the lounge while I waited, but no, I had to sit in an empty terminal with nothing to do for 8 hours. I also had to sit next to an obviously sick passenger coughing and sneezing on a 12-hour flight so 2 days after I got to Davao I got sick too. I vow never to step near Qatar Airways again for the rest of my life.

Yelp
What a lousy airline. The previous flight was 2 hours late and all they could say was sorry. They love their first class customers, everyone else is a hassle. The bathroom looked like one found in a city park. Floor was covered with the last passengers scattered bits of toilet paper. Don't bother spending your money with is airline. Many others fly to Doha Qatar.

Yelp
I would just like a spit out to this airline and their employees! Especially Leena and angiazka! They are efficient , kind snd patient ! Love operation international Erin Grismer

Yelp
This holiday season, I am thankful for the OneWorld alliance and the code-share partnership between American Airlines and Qatar Airways. I purchased my holiday trip from American Airlines, and my flight was operated by Qatar Airways. On the 12+ hours' flight from JFK to Doha, I was in the window QSuite (more like a cubicle with a door), and had the best sleep I had ever had on a plane. The bed was actually comfortable, and the privacy added to the comfort. The flight attendants were extremely gracious and solicitous of the comfort and enjoyment of all the passengers. The food included hearty options, such as braised short rib, as well as lighter options, such as sliders and finger sandwiches (the latter as part of the afternoon tea offering). One downside (which I actually didn't mind too much because I really needed a good night's rest more than I needed internet access) was that the in-flight WiFi did not work, despite the captain having reset the modem / router multiple times. The layover at the Doha airport was also quite pleasant, especially at the spacious Al Mourjan lounge with the excellent food offerings. Qatar Airways claims to have the best business class service of any airline in the world, and so far, I can't disagree.

Yelp
After a busy trip back to the good ole USA, I enjoyed my flight back overseas with Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways always provides first class service, even when traveling economy. After a few connections, I arrived in Nairobi, where I had the privilege of spending the night at the Trademark Hotel. A rated 4 star hotel that could easily slide upwards to a 5 star facility. I was early for my checking and the hotel graciously treated us to lunch at the harvest restaurant on floor 2. After a scrumptious lunch of their black bean burger, and a fruit wave drink (sorry, I was greedy and had finished it before thinking of a photo), we checked in to a classy room, fully adorned. This hotel has the added convenience of having a spectacular fully equipped mall, Village Market, adjacent to it for all your shopping and dining options. The city views from the pool on the 9th level is marvelous. This gem is far beyond the expectations of mere mortals when thinking of hotels in Nairobi. Kudos. A MUST VISIT WHILE IN NAIROBI

Yelp
Despite having travelled to so many places around the world, I had not flown on Qatar Airways until my recent trip to Sudan...and I was actually quite happy with the whole forward and return trips for JFK-Doha-Khartoum and Khartoum-Doha-Seattle. I honestly don't really know what to expect with Qatar Airways. I supposed it was just luck that I picked this airlines (it was one of the 3 airlines I can take that fly to Sudan) because I happened to buy tickets from a 3rd party marketplace..but was pleasantly surprised with the whole flight experience in a good way. Despite a marketplace's fault of canceling my first leg tickets on both my flights from my homebase to JFK and Seattle back to my homebase, Qatar Airways was kind enough to reinstate my tickets (after begging them on a phone while I was at JFK!) because I had to purchase a separate ticket to get to JFK last min (the marketplace I bought the tickets were unreachable and didn't really let me know my domestic flight to JFK to catch flights to Sudan was cancelled..so I had to pony up my points and redeem my tickets last min to cover my tickets to JFK and from Seattle back home. What I love about Qatar Airways also is they are pretty detailed. They have so many options for food that you can let them know your preferences. I tried regular food that they serve to everyone ...but also on my return trip decided to try the orienatal vegetarian meal choices (you can indicate your preferences by going to their airlines website in advance of your flight!) and thought the meals were tasty and wonderful! The actual flight experience was good. Even though the FIFA in Doha was 1 week away, I didn't find the flights to be super crowded. It was comfortable and not super full at all. The restrooms on the flights were always clean and the staff were nice and polite. Given the fact that I started my membership with OneWorld via AA recently, I would definitely think of traveling via Qatar Airways again, especially if I was heading towards destinations in that content or nearby. Thanks for agreat experience!

Yelp
I flew Qatar Airways business class to Zanzibar, Tanzania as a graduation gift. My graduation gift was a trip to Africa. I flew in Qatar's QSuite which was such a glorious experience, I may never want to fly economy again. Lol They offer a welcome drink on arrival, complimentary pajamas and slippers, an all day menu you can order from, and seats that recline into beds. The QSuite has a door you can close giving you the ultimate privacy. I got the best sleep ever! I almost didn't want to get off of the plane. The QSuite is like a vacation in itself. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was great. Words can't describe my experience so I'm hoping that my photos can. If you're ever in a position to fly business class, even if it's just to experience it once in your life, it's a must do!

Yelp
Note this is not Qatar airways but this is the terminal (8) which Qatar airways uses at JFK Airport. I had to take off a couple of stars since I tried calling the airlines on behalf of my friend and it was faster for me to almost drive from Albany than anticipate them to pick up your call. I waited for more than an hour for someone to answer the call, which was left unanswered even after I reached the airport.

Yelp
I definitely will fly with QA again and again. I joined the club! It's pretty similar to Singapore and Cathay Pacific Airlines, with excellent service and airlines. I like the preferred seating or economy premium, where I paid slightly more but not the price of a business class. The interior lighting is pretty impressive, burgundy to purplish. It's their color code. I flew Boeing 777 from JFK to Kuala Lumpur with a transit in Doha. I flew 777 many times, but this one was one of the best. Newer version because the old versions leave it out to other airlines lol kidding! Boarding at JFK was slow at waiting time but smooth once they started calling each zone. Doha to KL was via QA Airbus. When I returned, they put me on Malaysia Airlines from KL to Doha because they partnered with MH. I made a stopover in Doha for three nights. There's no Yelp in Qatar, no yelping, so my Doha experiences will not be available on Yelp. Check my TripAdvisor in a few days or a week or so. When you fly Qatar Airways internationally, do the stopover package and visit Doha. It was worth it! QA has the amenities I wanted on the plane. I got free WiFi for being a member, or you can pay $10 for the entire flight. Not bad at all. Their entertainment choices weren't a lot compared to Singapore Airlines, but how much can you watch when what you plan to do is sleep on a night flight. QA serves some great meals and snacks. I didn't make any meal requests this time because I saw the menu before booking the flight. I ate everything I ordered from the menu except some desserts that I tried a bit to clean my palate. Great menu. The bathroom was clean. Hamad International Airport in Doha is one of the best airports plus super clean. There are a lot of staff members who assist you from the time you arrive in Doha to making transit to another security checkpoint and also at the baggage claim areas. You won't get lost here because the staffers are so helpful and efficient. Thanks for making my journey worthwhile by getting me to Malaysia to see my parents safely, especially my Mom, and flying me back to NY safely. Thank you QA!

Yelp
Worst airline ever. Would not recommend. They downgraded my seats, wanted to seat me and my husband on opposite extremes of the plane and lost my luggage. Their team did nothing to help at all. I purchased my airline tickets on February 20, 2023. I did an online chat and called to upgrade my seats for more leg room on February 24, 2023. They confirmed it would be $104 each and that I could have seats on row 16 next to each other for me and my husband. I was unable to access any of my booking on the app and could not even check-in online for my flight from DOHA to JFK, so this airline already started with was an inconvenience while I was abroad. When I got to the airport I was informed the seats that I purchased could not be honored. The only person that gave a small explanation said it was due to restructuring of the plane. My husband was placed on 32E and I was given 16A for a 14 hour flight. At the DOHA airport, after much stress and talking to several people, we were told that maybe they could help us at the gate. I showed the personnel at the airport the proof of payment and screenshots of the chat with the Qatar team where they assured me I would be seated next to my husband when I upgraded my seats. Shankhar at the transfer desk sent me to a lady at the gate named Dimpi. She said the plane was full and nothing could be done. I even asked if I could upgrade my seats further but they said no. I purchase the extra space because my husband has a bad back and that way he could stretch a bit more and I could help him during the flight. Dimpi said all they could do was downgrade my seats if I wanted to sit next to him at all and gave me an email to contact. It was a terrible experience for a 14hour flight. The worst of it was that when I got on the plane, I realized that it was not full as I had been told and other options could have been provided. I asked the staff on the plane but they smiled and did nothing. At least they smiled. I arrived to my destination only to find my checked bag was missing. The two staff members at the airport, Azhanul and Charlene could not be bothered to help me. I literally had to run around trying to get them to help and Azhanhl actually told me he was running late and would not help me. I'm still waiting to hear any updates on my luggage 2 days later and doubt anyone will follow up. This was my first trip using Qatar, for my 40th birthday celebration and it was an absolute disappointment. Save yourself the time and purchase with any other airline because Qatar will do nothing for you if anything goes wrong.

Yelp
Unprofessional, disrespectful staff. Booked flight from Ohio to Thailand via Dallas, and Qatar. 30 hour trip business class. All prepaid hotels, visa, etc. Plus $7000 airfare. Checked in CMH all paper work verified. Go to Dallas/Ft worth, change planes to Qatar . Staff is harassing everyone, denied a lot of travelers over minimum discrepancy like hotels , and covid test. Mine covid test was day of flight , rapid, did not say "PRC", rude staff says, than manger says I been at counter 30 minute, that was lie , less than 5 minutes. Did not return baggage, lost. Plane was over 2 hours late departure, left me stranded in Dallas overnight, and I had to purchase new air flight back home , and never got to Thailand. BIG NIGHTMARE, NEVER fly this QATAR AIR.

Alex M.

Yelp
At JFK if you want find rude, unprofessional and dishonest people, go to terminal 8, QATAR AIRWAYS check-in area. They tell a lot of lies to you, try to overcharge for fake reasons. Unbelievable. My advice, if they tell you there are no more FREE seats and you need to pay additional $$$, go to self check-in kiosk nearby and do it yourself without "help" of these scammers and without any extra fee.
