I'm so happy I booked the QO Amsterdam for our final night before traveling home. I was able to get a room with IHG points plus $70, which was a pretty great deal. The hotel is located a bit closer to the airport than where we stayed previously in the city center, which was my reason for booking at this location. This definitely saved us time with getting to the airport for our early flight.
We arrived in the evening and received an upgrade due to my IHG membership. Our room was spacious and very smartly designed. There were two different types of scented bath products, plenty of space to store everything, thoughtful touches like combs and nail files, slippers and more. Everything electronic is controlled by an iPad, which is cool but comes with a learning curve. I did appreciate the many options for lighting, including around the mirrors. Very helpful for getting ready!
After enjoying some drinks at the gorgeous 21st floor bar, Juniper & Kin, we made our way back to the room to relax. The (huge!) TVs can be linked with a Netflix account, so we settled in for some binge-watching and ordered room service (via the iPod, naturally).
The room service menu could use some work; there weren't many options. Our order of a burger, chicken blt and fries arrived fairly quickly, but I soon discovered that my sandwich (the chicken) wasn't up to par. I reached the room service line to request a swap and this was handled fairly quickly. The burger was a little unconventional but tasty, and the fries were great.
Later, when I put the tray outside the room, I selected the option on the iPad to have our tray picked up. A short time later, we received a call from guest services asking if the tray had been picked up. Huh? I thought the whole point of this iPad option was to eliminate a call. The woman waited while my husband went to the hallway to check. Nope, the tray was still there. A little later (now after 10pm), we received yet another call from the same woman again asking if the tray had been picked up. At this point, we were pretty annoyed. No one should be calling a guest room after 9pm, period.
Overall, the hotel itself was really wonderful and I'm looking forward to seeing if the QO gets rolled out elsewhere. If there's a way to opt-out of in-room calls, I'd like that as well.
