The 12 Best Movie Theaters in New York City

"Quad Cinema exists with stunning success between the worlds of old-school movie theater and modern comfort extravaganza. The seats are upright but quite plush, many of them a bold red. The spaces are sleek, they're clean. The concessions stand is stocked and there's a full bar that serves orange wine. Most importantly, the programming is fabulously unpredictable—a blockbuster might be playing in one theater, the Spanish indie that introduced Penelope Cruz to the world thirty years ago in another, and a random collection of movies also not really playing anywhere else in the rest. It's just wonderful and reliable, always a consummate experience in the no man's land of Union Square."

Visited this theatre today. It is quite nice. The seats are cushioned and very comfortable. The screen is smaller than larger theatres but there are no viewing issues. The concession stand is limited in choices but sufficient with a nice seating area. Ladies room is large and very clean. There is an attached bar. I will definitely return to this theatre.

I’ve been enjoying the Quad in its several iterations since the early 80s. From film selection to comfort to value, it has always been exceptional. Today I called to ask a very specific question, and a genuine human answered the phone immediately — no phone tree with multiple options. I put my question and he responded immediately and precisely in about 1.3 seconds. The Best !

I liked the small and stylish theatre... Super comfy seatings .. it was a joy watching the movie and lingering for the q&q. The wonderful interiors helped made the experience so amazing.... I want to come back more often...

Google
Very clean pretty theater with good prices at their concession stand. All the staff here is very friendly and they even sell merchandise. This theater have four screens and lots of seating. They don’t do assigned seating so it’s first come first serve. A small popcorn is $6.50 and goes up $1 each size and their fountain soda starts at $4.00 and goes up $1 in size as well. Overall I would recommend coming here since it was a great experience.

Google
I've been going to this movie theater since I'm a very little kid and now I'm almost 60. This is a fabulous movie theater for the movie buff. If you are a movie fan, your life is not complete unless you see a movie at the quad..

It was our first time visiting this conema to watch “the unseen nurses” the place is clean and spotless The chair was also comfortable, and seem clean also. Bathroom is also clean.

Google
I love the intimacy of this theater which was also super clean (including the bathrooms). Special shout out to Gabe and the rest of the staff who create a totally chill vibe at this theater. Highly recommend!

Good selection of films. Very comfortable seats. Clean bathroom. Also, have a bar

Yelp
I was delighted to see the absence of assigned seats. This wouldn't be my first choice for Jurassic Park, but the visual and audio quality for Conclave were top-notch. There's a well-chosen stash of indies and a few more prominent names, for example The Substance. I knew nothing of the movie I Love You Forever but from the description, I'm thrilled to see it's playing here; this 89-minute offering is the kind of film that was once abundant in Manhattan but now is too often relegated to forums like ShitFilm, The Streaming Service Exclusively For Phones. Only four stars due to sightlines, which wouldn't be ideal in a sold-out or close situation. Nonetheless, I'm glad to see an indie spot holding on, with a bit more shine than a couple of its remaining competitors.

Yelp
Came here for a screening event. Love how quaint and sleek this theatre is. The snacks are pretty standard no slushy machine, that takes away a star. The staff are friendly most likely art students. Definitely a gem in lower Manhattan.

Yelp
Lovely venue for indie and foreign films. I also enjoy their after film interviews with actors and directors. Better than average drink and snack option are a plus too.

Yelp
I stopped by Quad yesterday to ask about showtimes for It Ends With Us and immediately noticed how hot the lobby was - the air was so still and thick, felt like I was being harassed by Satan himself. I couldn't believe the difference until going back outside. Love this place, but it made me feel bad for the employees working in heat like that.

Yelp
We hosted a kid birthday party here for our 7 year old twins and Quad did an amazing job. It was the perfect space for adults to hang in the lobby or the bar and still pop in and out of the kid movie as needed. Isabel and her crew were amazing hosts, handling 50 crazed kids with grace and providing everything we needed, including making the space look great and putting up pictures of the kids at the entrance. They allowed us to bring in pizza, snacks, and dessert and were flexible with all the planning and day-of items. We would love to have a party here again.

Yelp
The Quad is one of those New York City iconic places that exists for a very important purpose: to give independent and specialty films a place to exist and be seen by the masses. Without independent film houses like the Quad (and IFC, etc ...) most small budget and independent films might otherwise never be seen (unless they somehow find a live on streaming services), which would be a tremendous loss to the arts. Tonight we saw Sublet, a kind of gay romantic film (of sorts) crossed with a love letter to Tel Aviv. This Israeli film might otherwise have been overlooked without the Quad. Plus, many LGBTQ films find their place here. The theater itself has gone under a renovation and make over in the recent years. While it lacks the reclining seats and ability to chose your seat in advance like many others in the city, it has a great vibe. The seats are comfortable. The popcorn is always fresh. And the staff is always friendly. It's small and quaint and exactly what it should be.

Yelp
Loved this little art house theater. We saw Drift. Heavy movie but my guess is that it will be academy and golden globe favorite. Only giving four stars because the seats are pretty uncomfortable I mean I guess we're all just so spoiled by the fancy mainstream theater recliner seats but these seats seemed really squished together. Maybe I'm just a giant person, but everything else was great!

Yelp
I have not been to the Quad in over a decade and yesterday's showing of "Remember This" -The Jan Karski story magnificently portrayed by David Strathairn jumps from the Quad Cinema screen defining humanity. I was so impressed by the clean, modern look of the QUAD which has rekindled my interest in Art house movies. The Quad is truly a gem in the resurgence of NYC. I love the screen, acoustics and the sight-lines here. Bathrooms put the National chains to shame.

Yelp
Came here to see the premier of "Buffaloed." The place is very nice and had a nice vibe to it more than a mall type movie theater. It was upscale with a bar. Once in the theater, I found it more cozy/personal. After the screening, the lead actress and producer of the movie did a Q&A which was really nice as well. This is a well done, more upscale theater.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to attend a screening at Quad Cinema and was surprised with the venue in a positive way! I had never heard of the venue but regardless of that it really delivered. Check in was easy and the cinema was extremely clean throughout. I'd suggest this venue for movie screenings as well as if you're looking for a more intimate screening experience fas opposed to the more crowded and larger venues in the city.

Yelp
Stopped by since their new renovations and oh my gosh, is this a classy, beautiful place to see a movie. They did such an incredible job elevating this to an inviting, yet elegant place. Our favorite was the Quad Cafe, tucked covertly next to the cinema. Wow, what a relaxing spot. Order a tea and the Melt ice cream sandwich (the dark chocolate cookie with Joe's Coffee ice cream was incredible), and you have yourself such a soothing night. '70s music plays, no one bothers you while you sit in red leather seats. I'm going back. 5 Stars!!!!!!

Yelp
I first heard of Quad Cinema through one of my fave podcast "Happier in Hollywood". http://happierinhollywood.com/ They mentioned the luxury experience was a great life hack. And I love a good life hack plus the movies has always been an obsession. One snow day I saw they were the only theater playing "Faces Places"! If you haven't seen this feel good French documentary then you are missing out. It was empty in the theater at 2pm in the afternoon. There was even a cut out of Agnès Varda (director and half of the main characters in the movie) to pose with in the lobby. My weakness is eccentric seasoned ladies! And she's one of the best! And last night I couldn't help but sneak in a showing of "Liquid Sky" the perfect club kids alien orgasmic movie!! Stunning visually and the dialogue has some perfect one liners. I will be returning on Friday for the q and a with Michel Hazanavicius & Stacy Martin for "Godard Mon Amour". The theater has more intimate theaters within. The place looks super clean and funky. There's vintage movie posters along the wall with benches to sit while you wait for doors to open. This is the kinda place where too early means you have to wait. Yesterday we went in at 7:05 for a 7:15 movie. They have movies to buy and mugs. They also have popcorn and cookies available for purchase. My favorite thing about this place is they know what good older films to play and what's new and foreign. Some reviews have mentioned some issues but I have yet to see any of NY's furry friends. And this theater is so great that it has not deterred me from returning in any way.

Yelp
Nicely redesigned West Village movie house that showcases both well-known and highly rated new and classic films and documentaries, foreign and domestic. A big added benefit is its pleasantly hip cafe where you can get first-class coffee, beer and wine you can take into the theater if you want. While you wait, you can have insightful conversations about movies, art, culture and esoteric miscellany with barista Tracy and partake of the best popcorn in town. Cafe hours; Wed-Sun, 2PM-9 PM, occasionally 10-11 PM for premiers and guest lectures by directors and producers.

Yelp
My idol rating is a 4.5, but this is a small business, so I'm rounding up. All in all, it's a well-run, clean, comfy movie theater that plays so great films. I will also say that I'm pretty short and had someone sitting in front of me and had no issue seeing the screen. The half star off would be that with COVID, I wish I could have chosen my exact seats online and see which showings were getting crowded.
google avatar

Yelp
I was in here June to see Before Stonewall. The ticket seller was courteous. The particular theater I was in was small. Plenty of leg room for each seat. They have a decent selections of concessions. The restrooms were clean.

Yelp
Another happy reunion thanks to MoviePass. I hadn't been here in years and it was both nice (and a tiny bit sad) to see the theater updated for the 21st century (mostly the lobby and facade, as the chairs are still old-school art-house seats, not the business-class recliners increasingly adoped by large chains like AMC). Their programming is excellent (including but not limited to the distribution of outstanding and interesting new Russian cinema). Buying tickets is a snap, as long as there's not a crazy lady in front of you demanding from staff a description of every movie currently playing prior to making her decision. And the theaters have that refreshingly intimate feel with smaller screens and good views anywhere you sit. Bathrooms are relatively clean, too!
google avatar

Kerrie D.

Yelp
What a different Quad Cinema this is from my long gone NYU days. I have such fond memories of hunkering down in the Quad for double features in the middle of the day as a temporary escape from the city. This new Quad cinema is updated, clean and well run! Heck, they even have a bar on site! The night I went, many people were having trouble with the moviepass app and the Quad staff were all so supportive. Once inside the theater itself had very comfortable seats and an incredible sound system. Bathrooms are clean and updated as well. They seem to run both mainstream and indie movies!
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint, but full of quality this theater is. Prices not so quaint but worth it because you're supporting the artists that release their films here. This place is a bit hidden on the street, so trying to find it was like hunting for treasure lol once you find it and walk in, the presentation of the lobby is quite lovely. There is a nice little room with a bar to catch a few drinks before the movie. There are only 4 movie rooms thus the "Quad" in this theater's name. When I was buying my ticket for Hearts Beat Loud, the cashier told me one of the rooms temporarily had no ac. I was hoping it wasn't my theater, and I was right. Thankfully it was another one and not mine. Overall, very nice theater to chill and watch a movie at!

Yelp
This pains me to write since I first went to the quad 40 years ago, but do NOT go to this theater if you want to watch the movie instead of the person's head in front of you. Whoever was in charge of this redesign should have whatever license they have taken away. Was told by someone who works there that there have been complaints since it reopened. AND there is no heat, has been none for at least the last four weeks when Iast went there in the afternoon with only a few people there. Too bad, it would be a shame for the Quad to disappear.

Tabatha K.

Yelp
I read the reviews before we went and noticed a lot of them talked about the seating. The first thing I noticed was that the seat in front of me had a very high back. I'm 4'11" and it was almost too high for me to see over. If someone of a more "normal height" was in front of me I would have had a great view of the back of his head, as the seats were directly behind each other. Think: seats on a plane. Anyway, we where there for a Wednesday matinee and there were only 4 people in the audience, so it didn't affect me. But I wouldn't go back on a weekend for sure. The rest of the theatre was really nice and new.
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I found this cinema to be lackluster. Multiple staff members were unprofessional (seemed like maybe they were unhappy or just not trained well). The theater itself was quite small, which didn't bother me too much. The uncomfortable part was the height of the screen- it's situated too high and strained my neck a bit. Additionally, the movie was way too loud. I actually had to wear my over ear headphones to listen comfortably. I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Kayo N.

Yelp
Love the interior redesign, and the fact that there is a little café attached to it. Perfect place to spend a rainy sunday catching up on some arthouse culture. They also take moviepass, apparently - which I don't get but still good to know!
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
Small theatre with just four screens (Q, U, A, D) that shows pretty much exclusively independent/foreign flicks. There is an attached bar. It's very polished for an indie cinema - I agree with the reviewer that said that the entrance looks like the lobby of a boutique hotel. The one qualm I have with this theatre is that I feel like the soundsystem is not very good. I find it a bit flat if that's possible. Oh, and they take MoviePass.
google avatar

Tori W.

Yelp
Quad Cinemas was very modern and fun. It was a fantastic choice to go the day before the Oscars and my friend and I had a great experience. The bathrooms were super clean and nice as well! The seats are not recliners, so not the absolutely comfiest, but very soft and I loved the bright red color. They had a pretty good selection of candy and of course, popcorn! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
**never been to this movie theater b4....very sleek & sexy adult look to outside. inside small and cozy and definitely clean. i wanna say all the movies start late, i think the earlest movie i saw was 12:45. for when i arrived they were still setting up the lobby/ concession area (cleaning and things of that nature) had the guess sitting on the side on small up against the way places couches untill they called name of movie & which theater room it was in came to see "the great buster movie" : it was ok cant complain to much. i did learn & enjoy ((also 1 of not many movie theaters who have outlets inside....That was Litt!!)) was an ok experience here...i will be back signed, i luv to experience life & all it has to offer me tyshawn von teese & friends xoxox **

Yelp
The Quad is a theater that's always there for me in my time of need. Like when I needed to see that movie about euthanasia rights in The Netherlands to impress a boy I was dating, The Quad was there. When no one else wanted to go see Colma, The Musical with me, The Quad was there to keep me company. And when I thought I was the last person on earth who hadn't seen The Dark Night, The Quad knew it wasn't too late for me. The theaters/seats are a bit small and cramped, hence the loss of star, but its charm and selection of films more than makes up for it. And really, a movie theater in New York that costs less than $12 where you don't have to sit through 20 minutes of commercials before your movie is an easy Four Stars in my book. Thanks for being there for me, Quad! I'll gladly return the favor any day.

Yelp
This review is all about PHYSICAL COMFORT and not artistic considerations. Having said that, for me, the newly renovated Quad has TWO MAJOR FLAWS: 1) The screens are too low. Everyone's heads, for at least 4 rows in front of me, were blocking the lower portion of the screen. Very annoying. Can you imagine how irritating this would be if you had to read subtitles?! Needless to say, about half of the films shown at the Quad are foreign and require the reading of subtitles!!! I also felt badly for the people sitting behind me since my husband and I are both more than 6 feet tall. 2) The air conditioning was blasting directly on us so strongly we had to keep our coats fully zipped and scarves wrapped tightly around our necks. Terrifically uncomfortable. It was not even a warm-weather evening. I didn't see why air conditioning was necessary. On the plus side of things: The new look of the place is lovely. The seats were very comfortable, though because of the low screen, I really couldn't take advantage of resting my head back or reclining. Very nice concession area and restroom renovations. Artistically, the Quad remains an important New York venue. They must have spent a fortune on the new place. It is very sad that these equally important considerations of physical comfort have been overlooked.

Yelp
With the loss of Brooklyn Heights Cinema this year, I'm so happy to see Quad Cinema thriving. This wonderful art-house cinema is a sure bet for the money. Decent (while small) screens with both 35mm film and digital projections showcase the best in hard-to-find independent and foreign films. It's far superior to the Angelika (which, by the way, is a national chain), even with its small seats. Comfortable semi-raked seating rounds out the great experience of seeing a film here. If you care about 35mm film, call ahead to check and see if your film is presented in this format. It's up to YOU to make sure that places like this can survive the ever increasing rent of Manhattan and movie chains taking over.
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Yes they take Moviepass. Stumbled on this and the inside is slick and modern. They have a nice waiting area in the main lobby w ample treats and nice bathrooms. The screens arent big but that allows for a more intimate feel. It also lets you sit right up on that sceen if you like. Cool cool little bar adjoining and staff is super cool. Refreshing change from the big theaters.
google avatar

Rafi F.

Yelp
Small and clean movie theatre that shows current/unique independent films. Appreciated the friendly staff and how clean it was. It was a very pleasant experience.

Marlo T.

Yelp
Great films, cheap tickets, great schedule. The theaters are small. The very big problem here is that the seats are not properly raked at all. One seat directly behind another and no sharp incline to see above their head. Staggered seats would ameliorate this problem. I know they threw a lot of money into this, but they failed seating design 101. Sound okay, offerings wonderful. You just can't see it unless you stand in the back of the theater.
google avatar

Krista J.

Yelp
I went to the Quad Cinema a lot when I was a student at NYU and always had a fine time...mostly because I was seeing those indie movies where only four people show up, so the theater isn't crowded, no one is talking or checking their phone, and even though the seats are TOO small, there is plenty of personal space when no one else is there. BUT yesterday I went to see War Horse (which I loved), and it was an entirely different experience. Being the only theater still showing the Oscar nominated film, it was sold out...possibly oversold by the number of people who were still looking for seats AFTER the movie started. The seats really are too small when you are packed in like sardines, and since the theater attracts the 65+ audience who constantly say things like "Eh, what did they say? I can't hear," and "Oh, look, it's that actress...what's her name? You remember her from that movie...you know," it wasn't the ideal viewing experience. Sigh I'd go back, but not anytime soon. They do have good popcorn, which is important. But the rest rooms do not impress.

Yelp
Great intimate place to see a movie. Was there for the "Choose Me" showing. The place is lively and colorful. About 20 ppl came so plenty of seats open. Not much in promo for this gem theater, lucky the Voice had a write up & picture about this great '80's flick. Their snack bar needs help - alot of help - the only non-carbonated option was water, $3.50, ok, at least its Smart Water but at room temperature? Really?!? A cooler would be too much? I'll pay $5 if its cold, dammit! Smiling Gabby was glad to help, now let her have a tip cup on the counter! Will make this a first choice over the mega movie places but might have to bring in my own COLD drinks, tyvm. Shhhhhhhhh.............. ^_^

Nancy c.

Yelp
Comfortable seating in lobby and theaters, sound proof screeening rooms, interesting programming & also (for those who remember the old Quad) spacious, modern restrooms. It's great to have the choice of 4 screening rooms and a variety of foreign, classic and Indy films. I want to especially recommend the Quad Bar with barista and bar service: espressos, teas, decaf, beer, wine & snacks. I enjoyed a delicious, generous cappuccino today while waiting for my film in the tranquil, comfy bar. The Quad bar is open to anyone, so if you're looking for a nice spot on 13 St, with restroom access, no noise or pushy crowds, come here ! You don't need to buy a ticket.

Yelp
perfect theatre clean great indie / foreign films recently updated i love the quad!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
Went to see a movie here a couple nights ago and the volume was crazy low. It was a foreign film with subtitles so it wasn't crucial for hearing dialogue but it was jarringly quiet compared to other theaters I've gone to. I asked if something could be done and they said they have to keep it low because their neighbors complain about the noise ...

Yelp
Projector dead, manager refuses to give refunds. Only passes for future breakdowns. Never treated so shabbily! What's the problem with this place? Is new owner bankrupt? What a dump!

Yelp
take heed of all the warnings about the level of the screen. this was the only theater showing faces places, and i made my way with excitement and a light heart. on a (sole) positive note, kudos for the curation and the wide selection of films and genres they offer here; i could easily have seen myself attending several more showings this week alone. however, i do not see myself returning. what could have been a wonderful first experience at this theater was soured by spending half the film shuffling back and forth in my seat, reorienting myself according to the the person sitting directly ahead of me. he constantly leaned over throughout the movie, blocking my view of the subtitles (thank you for ruining a lovely movie to share what must have been groundbreaking commentary with your date). latecomers, some arriving well into the actual movie (one, the aforementioned date. please do us a favor next time and go to rockefeller center), block the entire low-hanging screen as they shuffle into a front-row seat, likely to avoid what was happening to me. the space itself is modern and clean, but at the expense of some of the old world charm that i had been expecting from a theater such as this (see: kew gardens or cobble hill cinemas). to maintain the contemporary vibe, i'd expect at least a ticket vending machine instead of all the strip lights (though maybe i just missed it if they do have one available). instead, i exchanged a total of 0 words with the person at the register before i was shuffled in, and therefore was not warmed at all by the more "human" interaction. a corresponding 0 points for hospitality (see: village east cinema, which stands out to me for great customer service experiences). the other movies i had been interested in seeing here were single showings at off-peak times - 3pm on a wednesday, 9:45pm on a monday. perhaps that is intentional, as a full house here sounds horrendous. i'd only return if i were to have ample space between me and the rest of the moviegoers, assuring an unimpeded view of the whole screen. sadly, not likely. this is a 2.5, rounded up for a great selection of movies that i will unfortunately stick to watching at home.

Yelp
Grateful to have indie cinemas with rare films and foreign movies. Pristine little theater with lovely staff. Cute cafe next door too

Agnes F.

Yelp
Disastrous design flaw in seat backs and screen location. Unless you are a tall person, forget about going to the Quad. The seat backs/head rests are higher than any I had ever seen/experienced in any other theatrical establishment anywhere. . This makes it impossible, or at the very least, very difficult to see what is on the screen, which is also located at an awkward position. Upon leaving the theater I mentioned this to an attendant who told me that "something wouldl be done about it", but when I called them today I was told that there were no plans in place to remedy this situation. Too bad, because I really like their film selections.
google avatar

Gregg D.

Yelp
this is the worst theatre of all time. just had a film festival screening there. UGH!!!!! the staff has rocks for brains and, I believe, are waiting for their spaceship to swing back around and pick them up after 400 years. The manager is incompetent and without courtesy or consideration. And the projectionist.... oh my.......retarded. He screwed up the format (he left the image squeezed!) then had the brilliant idea to stop the film 5 minutes in. With a least 2 to 3 minutes passed, he then restarted the film and it was still squeezed!!!!! Captain Genius and his merry bunch of Mensa members really need to get their shit together. Boo!!! "F" for Effort. Clownshow of the highest order. This place doesn't have character, it has shit for brains. i'd rather see a movie in a Port Authority bathroom.

Yelp
I came to hear about the Quad Cinema because they were recently hosting the premiere of Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story. It sounded like a grand affair really since the film won at the Anaheim International Film Festival, and the director was going to be available for Q and A after the film. I felt so bad for the director, because this was the most run down movie theater I have ever seen. My girlfriend and I were the first ones to arrive. Upon entering the theater, I noticed that two rows of seats were covered. At first thought, I was thinking those seats were reserved for the director and makers of the film, like you see at the film festivals. As I got closer though, I realized it was something quite a bit different. Apparently the roof is leaking quite badly at this particular theater, and tarps were laid down to protect the seats and catch the accumulating rain water. Classy. Looking around the theater, it was hard to find a place to sit. There was trash everywhere! Apparently they don't bother to even clean the theater between screenings. The film projector was about as old as they come, and the seats were all at the same level. You would think they would use their best room for a film premiere. Think again. The theater was vile and disgusting, and I would never care to go back here. Yikes! (Definitely have a gander at the attached photos)

Yelp
They supposedly were screening an indie movie that I really really really wanted to see, but the poster for the movie and the description of the move (of another movie with the same title) shown on their website did not match, so I called the theater and asked which one it was. I was assured it was the movie I wanted to see. Sooooo I go into the city and go to Quad Cinema to see the 5:20 pm show. This is where the fun begins. When I get to the box office, I am told that the projector isn't working. Ok, things happen. I ask if it is likely that it will be fixed in time for the next show because I came in from NJ to see this movie and I am told ....... the projector has been broken all day. WTH???? They couldn't have told me that when I called???? They waited until I made the trip from NJ to tell me the projector was broken instead of telling me when I freaking called and asked about the movie??? No apology, no here's a coupon for a free ticket or free popcorn, nothing. Since I already made the trip in solely to see this movie, I decided to hang out at Starbucks to see if the projector got fixed by the next show. Nope, and still nothing to make up for letting me make the trip for nothing and wasting 4 hours of my time. How hard would it have been for them to say "Oh yes, it's the correct movie but the projector is broken today" when I called?

Yelp
One of the handful of movie theaters left in NYC that shows real first-run indie movies (usually with a queer slant) and the tickets are still $10. Here's hoping it can stay that way for awhile! I saw my first Gregg Araki movie here, my first Zhang Yimou, my first Bruce LaBruce, and documentaries about everything from porn stars turned singers to the examination of homosexuality as it relates to the Bible I watched just this afternoon. Sure some jerks have bigger screens in their CPW penthouses, but: 1) I don't have a penthouse, 2) the staff here is always friendly, 3) the concessions feature fresh popcorn and Fizzy Lizzies, and 4) even the bad movies the show are usually at least worth your while. Can't think of a more perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Great little cinema. All the screens have small amount or seating but I found it to be very cozy. They show mostly indie and foreign film and they give lots of opportunities for showings

Yelp
I am a sucker for theaters that show "artsy" films, and Quad Cinema never lets me down when I'm in the Village and longing to see a film with more subtitles than gratuitous explosions. The theaters are quite small, but in my estimation that only enhances the intimacy of most of the films that are shown here. Quad Cinema is not for everyone, but I can't help loving this small, uncomplicated theater that shows small, uncomplicated films.

Yelp
There ARE sometimes lines. Combination of seniors and kids at same film : interesting phenom. The Quad HAS been around for a long while, and it shows good flics that don't show anywhere else in the city, like Latcho Drom (Latcho Drom?) http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/movies/l/latcho.html

Yelp
I didn't know they made theaters this tiny! Tiny as in 50 people to a room, not tiny as in I hope your not taller than 5'5 'cause you won't fit in the chair. Just because it's tiny doesn't mean it's cheaper, this is standard movie pricing. They show all sorts of independent movies and foreign language stuff here. I think a couple bigs ones make it in too. The sound and picture are decent. The dude (alone) listening to the Yankees game was not so awesome. We all heard. They lost. No surprise. The bathrooms are clean but oddly angled. Not really enough room if you have limited mobility. Or in the theater, either.

Yelp
I love this theater for the same reasons that I love Angelika and Cobble Hill Cinema in Brooklyn. It's small and gets more of the art house movies, along with the movies that have maybe been out for a while that you never got around to seeing but need to because it's Oscar season. You won't get lean back comfy chairs, but you will get good popcorn with your indie flicks, along with that warm, small theater feel.
