The hotel is centrally located close to all things downtown, and also provides a free shuttle bus to and from the Yellowknife airport. However, those are the positives...
The rooms are tiny, ok for a lone traveller, but a couple or family would struggle for space. The bathrooms are dated, but on a par with other hotels in the chain. The TV was very intermittent, many listed channels did not come in, and often those that were received dropped out or became rather pixelated.
I was there in June, and found the midnight sun to be a bother when trying to sleep. There's no air conditioning in the room (understandable for such northern latitudes) but the fan they provide has an exhaust pipe fixed into the window, which stops you from closing the window. This combines to prevent the "black-out" curtains from totally blocking out the light, and also curbs a peaceful night's sleep thanks to the noise from outside.
The hotel is attached to an indoor mall which can be accessed from the lobby when it's open. But the vast majority of the stores are empty, or have limited opening hours. Even the Tim Hortons didn't open until after 12pm when I was there!
With some modernisation and improvements, this could be a decent hotel, but as it is, I would look to stay at an alternate next time I'm in Yellowknife.
