We've stayed here a few times for various functions and the rooms are great. Nice and warm, which is great for this time of the year in Ballarat. We had breakfast at the cafe. Unfortunately it was fairly underwhelming. Our poached eggs were harder than a cats head, and the hash brown shattered when pierced with a fork. Coffee was very good though.

Good experience here. No worries with check in or out-I did have to leave at 4.30am. It is within a 5-10 minute walk to the main bus/train station. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby too and some great old architecture. My room was very quiet and well appointed; comfy king size bed, electric blanket and good aircon. The shower was a bit of a tight fit but fine. Sufficient hanging space in the wardrobe, and there was a toaster, kettle , plate, cups and some cutlery. Microwave is small but there are no cooking utensils or microwave bowls etc provided. Work desk with good lighting for a laptop and there’s free wifi. Daily room service too, bed made, bathroom cleaned nicely. Thank you. I had a quiet room too which apparently is worth asking for depending on the night club. I never heard it. I’d definitely be back again.

Lovely rooms, great staff. No nightclub when we were here but lovely old character venue that's been refurbished tastefully. Drinks on the balcony as the sun was going down was an unexpected delight.

So glad we pushed past a recent bad review of this hotel as our first visit to Ballarat was excellent in this historic town. Check-in was efficient and friendly in this hotel which is full of character and also clean, super comfy and obviously recently renovated. We appreciated our good sized room (hey, we are two adult males and I am of substantial girth) with plenty of space. I hate beds pushed against a wall so the double bed with plenty of room on three sides is heaven. The bed and pillows were cosy and the fact that there was absolutely no noise at all despite the hotels location in the city centre meant we slept well and woke refreshed. ||All the staff we interacted with were so friendly and professional however the young woman who worked in the bar next to the poker machine room, who took some time to talk to us is exactly the sort of person you want to have as front-line staff. In a world lacking customer service she had heaps of it: the appropriate skills, attitude and talent. She was a real joy to talk to. Congrats to whoever hired her, thank you.||I almost forgot -- we had no issue with car park, which was exactly where check-in explained, so I have no idea how it was "unusual". In fact it was immediately behind the hotel with walk-in access through to the hotel itself!||Do we recommend the Hotel George? Definitely! Would we return??? Absolutely! And we are already plotting another visit.

Our friends had their engagement in the function room, nice space with balcony for those smokers and anyone needing some fresh air. A man I can only think is the manager was very accomodating and friendly int he setting up for the night and serving us lunch that day. Delicious breakfast meals available all day. A lovely woman serving overheard us saying we had an hour to kill and recommended the free Ballarat art gallery over the road. Thanks for all the great service!

After catching the Ballerat shuttle from the airport this was the perfect place to stay. Late check in was a breeze and the room was just as advertised. Would happily stay again

As good as it gets!! We dined at The George and it was an excellent experience. The dining area is well laid out with plenty of space, and privacy in the booths. The food was fantastic. Our slight variation in the order was accommodated and the food was top notch. Particularly impressed by the serving sizes - very generous, especially the salad. The food itself was excellent. Service was great. Our host, Gary, was attentive, personable and efficient, and helped to make the experience enjoyable.

My review is about the pub dining experience. The atmosphere is a peaceful, lovely old pub. Staff were all friendly. Unfortunately service was quite slow and everything seemed disorganised for a fairly quiet Sunday. Pepper sauce on steak was so strong it overpowered everything, and no salad with pub steak/chips is unusual. Coffee was possibly the worst coffee I've had in years. Ordered cappuccino and received a tepid, burnt flat white. Luckily, the disorganisation lead to our coffee bill being lost, so it was free anyway.
