In ancient times, Quang Binh Quan was the gateway to Hanoi in the north and Hue in the south. Quang Binh Quan is called the entrance of Quang Binh Palace, and others call it Binh Quan Gate.
Built in 1639 during the reign of Lord Nguyen, Quang Binh Quan is one of the most important and fortified gateways in the region.
In 1825, King Minh Mang restored Quang Binh Quan and raised the tiers of the watchtower with solid, baked bricks. He also added an outer rampart and a moat.
Due to changes in history and time, Quang Binh Quan has been badly damaged.
Quang Binh Quan was destroyed when the French evacuated Dong Hoi in 1954 and rebuilt almost as before in 1961, not even a trace of the moat remains. It was again completely destroyed by American aircraft in 1965.
The current Quang Binh Quan has been restored to its original form around 300 years ago.
It is recommended to visit Quang Binh Quan to admire valuable historical relics and appreciate the high level of architectural art of Vietnamese military forts.
