Yelp
We just returned from a stay at the Marriott Downtown Quebec, QC. First the good stuff.
* It is a great location just outside the walled city at the Port St. Jean. Just on the other side of the gate, there is a terrific selection of restaurants and some nice shops.
* The hotel itself was recently renovated in a tasteful, modern style. Colors and furniture are attractive and welcoming.
* The concierge staff is amazing. Everyone we spoke to was friendly, helpful, and interested in our making the most of our stay in the city.
And the not so good:
* There is no parking on site or valet parking. Guests have to use one of several public garages nearby.
* At check in, the first clerk was "not logged on and could not help" me. I had to wait for the other clerk (T) to finish with another guest. When T turned to me, after 15 minutes, he could find a room for us. I left to park the car. When I came back, T told me that his supervisor had authorized a room for us. (We had reserved the room about 2 months before and had checked in remotely that morning).
* The room was a handicapped room at the rear of the hotel. Our door was next to an outside door at the rear of the hotel (about 3 meters away). We never felt completely secure in the room.
* The window opened directly onto a major thoroughfare. There was no privacy with the drapes open. We kept them closed making the room feel dark and dingy.
* My wife and I play cards most evenings. We sat in a foyer area next to the front door. The first night we noticed food scraps on the floor under the table. The second night the scraps were still there. The third night, the same scraps were still there along with other food crumbs. Oh, the table had rings from glasses on the table top all three nights.
* And the bar tender.... She was a young woman, cheerful enough ~ when she was there. Every evening when I went to the bar, she was off hanging out at the reception desk or in the office even with customers at the bar.
Given the number of fine, boutique hotels in Quebec, we will go elsewhere the next time we are in Quebec even though I am a gold elite Marriott customer.
