Grand Cayman Travel Guide

"A botanical garden showcasing the island's rich flora, including rare orchids such as the endemic Wild Banana Orchid, along with a conservation facility dedicated to protecting the Cayman Islands' native blue iguanas, making it both a scenic and conservation-minded destination." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. "Rarely do the terms Queen Elizabeth and reptilian breeding ground appear in the same sentence, but at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park—inaugurated by Her Majesty in 1994—you'll find a notable exception. Of the countess features to recommend the place, from its riotous gardens to its serene teahouse, perhaps most fun are the residents of its blue iguana habitat—shimmering azure ambassadors who'll greet you on the paths (and occasionally, in the parking lot, where signs caution you to check for sleeping iguanas under your wheels). Other colorful characters to look out for: the emerald Grand Cayman parrots flecked with crimson (they like to frond-hop overhead) and the various aquatic birds in and around the flower-garden-adjacent lake."

This is a beautiful place. Our favorite part was the blue iguanas. Loved seeing them cross our path. They also have a iguana rehab area that is very interesting. The colorful garden was very pretty and lush and there was a splash pad for kids. We were there on a very hot day but still enjoyed it.

Amazing place! The lush foliage, and variety of different native plants and flowers blew me away! The blue iguana sanctuary area was wonderful, and to see the ‘retired’ and ‘rehabbing’ iguanas in their enclosed areas was nice as you could get up close and get a good look. There are other iguanas that may be lying out in the middle of the self guiding trails, you just walk around them and give them room. Excellent gift shop that we were able to get some souvenirs for the grandchildren. Everything reasonably priced and in USD at the gift shop.

Definitely a must see while visiting Grand Cayman. We walked around starting with the Blue Iguanas. We went during peak sun and the area where they are did not have much shade over the walkways, although there was a building with a fan and water. It may be better to go earlier in the day or after 3pm. The botanical park is just beautiful with so much to see. We did bump into a couple iguanas along the trail that startled us (some are big!), but seem harmless. They just took off. I would go back the next time we visit.

It's a great place to enjoy nature and see the native blue iguanas. Due to the amount of plants the temperature is a bit cooler than other areas of the island (but still very hot during summer, so either go early morning or around 4pm). There are lovely play areas for kids, and a typical caymanian house for visitors to learn about life in Cayman in the old times. Incredible biodiversity of plans, insects and so forth. The gift shop accepts cards and has some good options of souvenirs, including plush blue iguanas. Make sure to apply sunscreen and bug spray before going, bring water and wear a hat.

I love it here so much!! My husband joined me in February, and it was a wonderful time to visit. There were so many flowers blooming, the weather was warm but not overbearing, and the iguanas were slightly active. I hope to come back some day!

Had an amazing time at this gorgeous park and really enjoyed seeing the blue iguanas roaming freely. The park is very well-kept and the children’s area and Heritage garden were particularly interesting. Unfortunately we visited prior to the orchids blooming. Would highly recommend!

This place was gorgeous! The iguanas are really neat but the entire garden area is also really anazing. The children’s play are is honestly the best I’ve seen anywhere.

Well worth the cost, even if just for the iguanas, but a wonderful variety of plants to view, the long trek along the backside "woodland trail" might be worth a skip, it's basically a hiking trail with occasional tree labeled. The rest of the gardens were delightful though.
