On the Grid : Queens Gardens

"For those who’ve watched the mushfest Notting Hill, featuring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, you might remember another important character – a park bench bearing the inscription ‘For June who loved this garden. From Joseph who always sat beside her.’ Turns out Queens Gardens is the perfect place for celebrity park benches to retire to, as it was gifted to the City of Perth by an anonymous gent following a failed marriage proposal. Ouchie. Opened in 1899 and named in honour of Queen Victoria on her Diamond Jubilee, the botanic gardens replaced the city’s former brickworks. It’s hard to believe that the beautiful be-ducked lakes were once clay pits. The garden’s iconic 1929 Peter Pan bronze is a cast from the Kensington Gardens original by George Frampton. So many whimsical little animals are to be discovered in its form, that it’s like crack for kiddies!" - Studio Bomba

Queens Gardens is a beautiful, well-maintained park located to the east of Perth Station (a slightly strenuous walk away). I visited during lunchtime on a weekday and saw several people enjoying their packed lunches. I visited in October (Spring), and the flowers throughout the gardens were stunning. The lawns are also very well-kept. Although the park is quite compact, I felt it was an incredibly well-executed and complete garden—like seeing a perfect model of a public garden. I imagine local residents who live near a place like this must have a high quality of life.

Visited on a sunny Saturday for friend’s wedding. Was a lovely place. Quite some other people were there enjoying the park as well, but thank god no ‘wedding crasher’ that day. 😂

What a wonderful surprise to find such tranquility at Queens Gardens in Perth! Despite its city location, the atmosphere is incredibly serene, making it ideal for a peaceful walk or a quiet moment. You can tell a lot of effort goes into the upkeep; the gardens are consistently well-maintained, with stunning floral displays and perfectly manicured lawns. A credit to the city for providing such a beautiful and well-kept green space.

An enjoyable walk this morning through this beautiful park/ garden this morning. Stunning trees, pond with a variety of water birds. Used by many including dog walkers - dogs must be kept on a lead and owners must pick up after their dog.

Beautiful day and lovely park. It is fully fenced, gated, well maintained, spacious and cute. Plenty of parking close by, various plants, trees, shade, lawn areas and seating. It has nice little pond and bridge too. My husband and I took our Maine Coon on his first park trip, he was a bit shy at first but he seemed to enjoy it (minus the slight noise from cars).

Overall a beautiful, quiet, green park. Birdlife, trees, green grass. Toilets available. It has pathways for walking and lush gardens and ponds for a peaceful day out. I would love to see more blooming flowers here. It would make it very European. Lots of photographers here. The only downside is it doesn't have a playground if that's what you're after

Had a healing walk in here of an afternoon. Didn't worry about parking space because it's enough(but not free). Equipped with restroom. Lotus leaf pool was an amazing main point for me.
