Saba Island Is Called the 'Unspoiled Queen of the Caribbean' — and It's Home to a 'Disappearing Beach'

"With only three resort-style hotels (Queen’s Hotel, Bar, & Kitchen, Juliana’s Hotel, and Saba Arawak Hotel), plus a handful of cottages and bed-and-breakfasts, accommodations on Saba are limited to roughly 120 rooms. This means you’ll need to book early, but also that the island never feels crowded, so you’ll always be able to enjoy its laid-back vibe." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Beautiful hotel! Sandra and Thierry are wonderful hosts. All of the meals we had here were excellent and the views are beautiful. The hotel is a 5 min drive from town (15 min walk) and is a little more secluded, but with access to hiking trails right at the entrance. To address a previous review which complained about lack of AC and the need to throw toilet paper in the trash - our bedroom had AC (the rest of the suite did not but it never felt too hot), and the island largely relies on septic systems which cannot handle toilet paper.

My husband and I had a fabulous stay here for 6 nights. Our hosts, Sandra and Thierry were very gracious, welcoming and helpful. They called cabs for us, recommended restaurants, and they attended to any concerns we had. All in all they were very friendly. Our huge suit overlooked the pool and the spectacular view of the mountain peaks and the ocean. Our first night’s meal was delicious, fresh fish, tuna tartare, a lovely salad and dessert. The daily breakfast offers a variety of choices, eggs any style, bacon, sausage, toast, pancakes, fruit and a variety of coffees. The view from the restaurant is also great. The other nights we sought out more of the great restaurants in Saba. The Queen’s resort sits on a large property with a European charm built with local stones, wood shutters, fabulous greenery everywhere with easy access to hiking trails. Staying in Saba at the Queen’s resort is a special experience worth the lane ride to get there.

Magical Stay!!!!!!!! We stayed at the Queen's Gardens Resort for a night while visiting St. Maarten. We took the opportunity to fly into the world's shortest runway which was just amazing. The owner of Queen's Resort Carlos couldn't have been more accommodating by arranging our pickup early in the morning to hosting a refreshing breakfast while we waited for our room to be ready. The view from anywhere is breathtaking on this beautiful island, however, our room just gave us an even better experience. Everything from the sounds of the birds to the absolute beauty of this five-square-mile island. The rooms are extremely large, the bed was extremely comfortable. We had dinner in a beautiful perch that sits high in the trees. The restaurant and its Chef were top-notch. We cannot do it justice by even trying to describe the experience of our stay at Queen's Garden. Do yourself a favor and stay here if you are thinking about visiting the island. Carlos and the staff made our stay personable and a pleasure! Thank you Carlos for hosting us.

The views are magnificent however the website overstates the refinement of the hotel. It is far from chic and elegant. We shared a “2 bedroom suite” which had a dangerous ladder to the loft bedroom with 2 poorly equipped beds - no closet no dresser and small windows. We were unable to use this room for fear of safety. The pullout couch was used for sleeping and was totally inadequate. The pool area was neglected and poorly maintained. The restaurant was unavailable due to a lack of chef. Our bathroom was dated and unusable due to its condition. The “office” sported open electrical wires and unsafe. This is far from luxury and cost almost $400 per night. I would not stay here ever again and warn others to find another hotel.

Spent a week here for a diving/hiking trip. Probably most upscale hotel on the island. The staff is lovely and the rates are still better than most resorts on other islands. There is no AC anywhere on the island but it typically isn't needed with the mild island breezes keeping everything cool. The furnishings are relatively simple save for a few vintage colonial pieces. The true highlight of the rooms are the private hot tubs with breathtaking views (this may not be available in some basic rooms, check with the front desk). The food at Queen's Gardens would be Michelin starred if the restaurant were in any major city, the gin tasting will give you a new appreciation for the spirit, and the staff are attentive without being overbearing. I would not hesitate to recommend to any Saba travellers.

The hotel need maintenance. It might have been what it was when people posted the comments in the past but not no longer. The new owner has plans to update the property but for the next few months, it is not good. The wifi is spotty, at best. Most rooms do not have AC and that would be ok if there were screens in the windows but there are not. The water is not drinkable, not even for brushing teeth. The toilets are not capable of flushing toilet paper, so that goes in the trash container, only 1 in the room. The grounds and the rooms need basic maintenance, from changing light bulbs to paint and woodwork. The furniture is shot and needs replaced. There are NO hot tubs as advertised. The food was excellent and the views were fantastic. The new owners are super friendly but seem to be over their heads. Hopefully they can get the property up to what it once was, as Saba needs the rooms. Saba is a beautiful island with warm friendly local people. I hope to return to dive soon, but will not stay at this hotel.

Paradise on earth. Came for the diving, left wanting more. Carlos & Thierry made the last leg of our honeymoon extra special. Truly felt like a honeymoon away from the hustle & bustle of St Maarten. We felt blessed by the size of the room, the views, and the service. We were always welcomed with a smile. We had our best meals on Saba at the restaurant at Queens Garden hotel — very high end. No comparison to other hotel restaurants (like Tropics Cafe). Our only comparable meal was at Brigadoon. Zero complaints regarding our room and our food. Breakfast was always perfect. We spoke to Carlos a little, and he has recently bought the property and they are in the process of making updates to the facility. Everything went well on the planning side of things. Our dives were hassle-free (booked for us by the hotel!!!) and upon our arrival, we were given a briefing of all the hiking trails on the island. Two points (a) Saba is not to be missed by avid divers & hikers and (b) you must stay here if visiting the island. Again, thank you SO much Carlos & Thierry for an unforgettable five days. We kept saying we wish we spent more time here. Truly magical.

Our daughter Catherine is attending the medical school at Saba. We came to visit and stayed at Queen’s Garden in January 2018. As soon as you arrive on Saba, everybody is incredibly friendly. It has a laid-back easy vibe. The ride from the airport to the resort is wonderful. There’s mountains, ocean, lush forest, scenic and absolutely stunning views. When you arrive at the resort, the owners will be first to greet you. They are very accommodating, friendly and inviting. The food is excellent. I hope you get the opportunity to eat in the garden under a chalet of flowering vines. The resort accommodations are perfect. My wife and I would sit and stare out the windows of our room, as the ocean rolled by, against a backdrop of mountains and tiny town below. The Tradewinds gently blow into your room. Paradise.
