Excellent village pub. Extremely warm welcome. Very very dog friendly! And very good quality food. Would definitely recommend of you're in the area. The best pub of our 6 day visit to Ullswater

We had a fabulous Sunday roast here. Beautiful location. Warm cosy interior. The staff were so friendly and so accommodating with dogs. The quality of the food was amazing. If we are ever back in the area we would definitely visit again

One of the best pub in the Lakes From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left our experience at Queens Head was exceptional! Greeted by such friendly staff who were so attentive to our every need. Our food came so quickly and the quality was out of this world. The atmosphere they have created at this pub is something really special, even without the spectacular mountain backdrop this pub would still stand out for all the right reasons. We will definitely be returning on a regalar basis that is for sure!

We ate here last night. Staff were friendly and good with our dog. The food was tasty (we both had lamb hotpot) but we found the portion sizes a little small.

The most amazing couple of managers ever are running this lovely little place. It’s cosy, warm, nicely decorated. The food was great, very tasty and more than excellent portions. The atmosphere feels very warm and relaxing and was perfect for a nice dinner. The couple running this place are so friendly, happy to talk and recommend places in the Lake District. We had a lovely evening all thanks to these lovely people working ever so hard to please customers. Would definitely recommend! Parking on site, dog food and treats too!

Stayed at Queens Head again we haven’t been since the fire and it was great to be back. Restoration is brilliant and the feeling of the place has definitely been retained. Food and service were as good as they could be and the dog friendly side is so well worked that it was effortless. The only possible downside was that our bedroom was a touch too warm for us but a good fan which was in the room certainly helped.

Really lovely dog friendly pub. The staff were always friendly, chatty and welcoming. Lots of lovely touches like a dog bed, towel, treats and a toy in the room. Our room (Skiddaw) was beautifully decorated and really comfy. Food was fantastic both for dinner and breakfast. We were only sorry we were staying one night but we’ll definitely be back!

The food was excellent, and there was a great range of choice on the menu. The staff were all attentive and welcoming. The decor of the pub was inviting, comfortable and relaxing. And they are also very welcoming of dogs, even providing a menu for them too!

Yelp
Truly one of the best places I've visited in the world. Located in a small village in the Lake District, you'll take a thin, windy road to reach this neighborhood pub. We arrived to a group of people in the parking lot who were pointing up in the sky and hollering. It was the freakin' international space station just casually above us! Cross that off the bucket list. The Queens Head is a pub that serves incredible food on the bottom, and a hotel on top. The pub was the most gorgeous English pub I've ever been in. After a fire years ago, it was redone and was incredibly cozy and chic. We were sat next to a blazing fire, there were blankets scattered around, and they had created little sitting nooks within the stone walls. I was in love before we even ordered anything. We got a round of gin and rhubarb tonics that came with fresh fruit in them. Because we were with locals from the village, they knew to ask the owner to come over and tell us about the building's history. He came over with old pictures, stories and incredible facts for us. He even took us upstairs to show us the magnificent hotel rooms (for reasonable prices too). The best part?! The queen apparently slept in one of the four post beds before the fire hit years ago, and the bed was one of the few that was saved after the fire. The headboard of the bed was then used to build the bar in the downstairs pub. It's ornate and beautiful. We ordered our food and I got pasta carbonara. It was delicious and the seafood specials sounded amazing as well. This place is high on my list to bring my family to if they ever come visit with us!

Yelp
The Queen's Head is a joy in every respect. The food is beautifully presented, tasty and generously portioned. The staff are attentive, incredibly polite and their menu knowledge is impresseive. The bar area is constructed from a four poster bed and the ceiling is beamed (and studded throughout with 2p and 1p coins, which is a great feature). A roaring open fire, mismatched tables and chairs, scatter cushions, fresh flowers and spotlessly clean in all areas. The food was some of the best I've ever had and the menu contains some unusual items (beef boboti, amongst others). The desserts were to die for (ginger creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding) and the whole meal was just wonderful. I couldn't fault it.

Yelp
How can you NOT go to a place called the Queen's Head in a town called Troutbeck?? Truth be told, it was dumb luck for us; while this place was only about a mile from where we were staying in Ambleside, we stumbled upon it, starving and looking for a cozy pub for a late Sunday lunch. Not thinking that the sleepy towns wouldn't serve food all day, it was quite a trek (and for my ever-foodie husband-- okay, i'm a foodie too, even though we were H-U-N-G-R-Y with a capital H, we just couldn't stop anywhere... as four stops and no eating revealed...). But upon walking into the Queen's Head pub, we knew immediately it was somewhere we were going to love. Yes, it's a hotel (which we didn't realise until about half way through our meal), but it's also an excellent dining experience. I suppose it would fall into the category of gastro-pub, but it was so much cozier with the wood-burning fireplaces, dark interior with low ceiling and scads of silk cushions adorning the benches and chairs. And the food-- YUM. great specials-- I had a wonderful ale batter goats cheese with white asparagus, rocket and truffle oil to start, while my husband had his favorite combination: hash brown topped with black pudding, a poached egg and pancetta. For my entree I tried one of their Sunday roasts-- in this case chicken. The potatoes and yorkshire puddings were cooked to perfection; The chicken was tasty but I would have preferred to have slices of a whole chicken with mixture of white and dark meat to just a chicken breast-- you never get it quite roasted when you try to do that. My husband had their selection of Cumberland sausages and buttered mash-- which I can't even believe he was able to eat all of, it was so big. We skipped dessert-- simply because we were so full; but i spied sticky toffee pudding (my favorite) along with a pretty healthy (as in big and impressive) dessert menu. The staff was friendly and accommodating-- not to mention on the ball. It's rare, I find, anywhere in England that waitstaff is particularly attentive, and especially in the country, they move at a much slower pace. Not here-- they were fast, all smiles and great company. We'd definitely return here, and may even stay over next time!

Yelp
We stopped in for a meal and found the prices sky high. Left without ordering. I have to admit you can find better in Windermere or Ambleside

Yelp
Good place to stay located in a beautiful village. The restaurant downstairs is great- with excellent food. Free parking is available by the sideway or at the main parking lot, just ask at the reception and they'll give you a special permit.

Yelp
Excellent country pub, catering for ramblers and more serious walkers. The food is just what one needs for either of these pursuits, with a varied menu (my favourite for over 10 years has been the shank of lamb). There are two inside eating areas: the bar is incomparably the better of the two, with a nice big fire in winter and the actual bar itself constructed from an Elizabethan four-poster bed (it's worth getting up early on a winter Sunday to get there by mid-day to ensure a table in the bar area). A good selection of beers and some reasonably-priced wines complement the high-quality food.
