Where to go if you miss airplanes and flying - SilverKris

"A volunteer-run, history-rich aviation museum adjacent to Caloundra Airport featuring more than 75 military and commercial aircraft on display, including a General Dynamics F-111, a Lockheed P-3 Orion and Australia’s first Douglas DC-3, alongside a collection of engines, equipment, artefacts, photographs and books. The museum offers guided aviation tours to highlight key exhibits and provide deeper historical context." - Joy Fang

I've visited the museum 5 times in the past 12 years and have always enjoyed the experience. The volunteers have enhanced the experience with their extensive knowledge and passion for all things aviation. Even if you're not an aviation enthusiast you're in for a treat.

The number and range of exhibits here are quite amazing especially for a volunteer run museum. Worth the entry. Need a leisurely hour to look around. It’s a pity more exhibits weren’t open to enter (into the cockpit or cabin. Friendly and helpful volunteers

Recommended by family, popped in for a visit and was welcomed by super friendly staff and volunteers. Really good value for how big the museum is, and had a few staff explain some of the aircraft and told some great personal stories from their time flying. Sat in the cockpit of the Lockheed AP-3C with one of the staff had lots of laughs. Will most definitely come back next time on the sunny coast.

Queensland Air Museum is a fantastic experience. Going inside one of the airplanes was a real highlight, and the kids absolutely loved it. The staff were incredibly informative and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. A great day out for families.

Cool museum with a lot of different planes and helicopters. Must stop if you like aviation. Definitly have a chat with the volunteer guides as well! We spoke with Noel and that was really interesting! A lot of knowledge and experience there. All in all a nice stop along our east coast trip.

A great place for avgeeks to geek out! Plenty on display both inside and out. On this most recent visit I was lucky enough to get access inside the Neptune with it open for the public to view. Sounds like they'll randomly have various aircraft open to get inside, but no official schedule from what I can tell.

I would fully recommend visiting this lovely museum in Caloundra near the sunshine coast. We were travelling back from Hervey Bay and as a aviation enthusiast I had to call in. I booked the F-111 Cockpit Experience tour in advance and wasn't disappointed. My guide and instructor was David Dunlop a former RAAF pilot on the F-111. It's was a thorough tour, made even better by the great hospitality given by David. It is quite an extensive museum covering many acres full of exciting aircraft. One day isn't enough to complete everything especially with doing the F-111 tour. There is also another aircraft simulator experience, something I would do when I return to Australia. There is some merchandise to purchase at the museum. I would thoroughly recommend anyone if they get the chance to visit this museum.

My girlfriend and I had a really informative and enjoyable time here! Thank you to Brian for giving an extremely detailed and insightful tour inside several aircraft, including the P-3. I never thought I’d get to see the interior! We also enjoyed talking to David, a former F-111 pilot with the RAAF who took us through the aircraft and what it was like flying it. I would highly recommend any aviation fan to visit this place and talk to the volunteers, they truly bring the place to life.
