15 Places That Put the Dog Back in the 'Dog Days'

"Among the more expected items such as vehicles, equipment, uniforms, weapons, souvenirs, and badges, this police museum also has a rather unusual piece of evidence: the taxidermy body of a dog named Peter. On May 22, 1952, 23-year-old taxi driver Athol Henry McCowan was murdered. The investigation progressed quickly, as police had witness reports and details about the suspect’s vehicle—and even the dog he had with him. After an intensive Australia-wide investigation, Arthur Ernest Halliday was arrested that November and charged with murder. His dog, named Peter, had died in the meantime, but the prosecution insisted that he was mounted for his court appearance.  On the big day, witnesses identified Peter as the kind of dog seen at the crime scene. Halliday himself was so surprised to see his faithful friend in the courtroom that he blurted out it was his dog. This outburst, along with other evidence, linked Halliday to the crime scene. He was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. Like the Black Museum at Scotland Yard in London, the Queensland Police Museum was initially established as a collection relating to crime and suicide, and was for the education of police officers only. It grew from a small cupboard to something much larger, and offered occasional public viewings before being opened to the public in 1980. The newly built Police Headquarters in Roma Street opened in 1990, and had space set aside for the museum, which now has several employees and thousands of annual visitors." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

In this free museum You can see a great variety of police badge and uniforms. There are also some old collections which I found interesting. There is even a crime scene for you to explore.

The Queensland Police Museum is located at 200 Roma St,Brisbane City 4000. Admission is free to the Queensland Police Museum Museum. Volunteers are on-site to assist you with any queries during your time at the Roma Street location. 😀 You can contact the telephone number 07 3364 6432 if you have any further queries, such as arranging a suitable time to visit. It is suitable for all ages & is great for children to enjoy spending some quality time learning about the history of the Queensland Police Force, which dates back to the late 1800s. I saw a group of secondary school students waiting for their opportunity to visit this museum. People with disabilities have access via a ramp from Roma Street entrance. There is a car park nearby that has access to people with disabilities. Disability toilets are located on the ground level near the entrance to the museum. The Queensland Police Museum also shows videos of actual events that took place in Queensland. One example is the story of Athol "Slim"Halliday, who was a criminal that was known as the Houdini of Boggo Road Jail. Athol "Slim" Halliday made 6 attempts to escape from this establishment & was successful on 2 occasions 1940 & 1946. There is a movie that was filmed in & around Brisbane currently showing starring Bryan Brown as Athol "Slim" Halliday. In the museum is the stuffed dog, Peter, who was owned by this person. So, if you are looking at something different to do, why not arrange sometime to visit the Queensland Police Museum 🤔

I visited a police museum for the first time. Each of the pieces inside was full of memories. The map prepared in Australia's first language attracted my attention. Entrance to the museum was free. .

Detailed history of the Queensland police force. Well-presented exhibits, and some are quite moving. Toddlers enjoyed peering at the models of police headquarters.

Popped in here on the way to a friend's and pleasantly surprised. Open limited hours but you can just walk in and see the artifacts from the history of the police force from badges, a crime scene, flags and badges and more. They do have a store however that is open limited hours, but you can see online and then get this delivered. So very cool items. Well worth a visit if you near it.
