Do a fair bit of FIFO, usually stay at a Quest. This is the first time I've been to Quest Rockingham though, so here's my thoughts as a night worker:
PROS:
✅ Good For Night Workers - Relatively quiet location, and the hotel is geared towards accommodating it. They tend to put night workers on the upper floors and group them all together. Never heard a neighboring room even once despite the place being almost full. Cleaners will NOT knock on your door if you have a DND sign up.
✅ Good Rooms - Beds are comfortable, AC is top notch, Curtains are blackout, and the showers are hot with good pressure even on the upper floors. You do get a bit of pressure drop from time to time, but the temp stays constant. Even got a desk to do paperwork. Solid 9/10
✅ Close enough to Amenities - IGA is walking distance, Coles and Woolies a short drive. Plenty of fast food including Subway just a stroll away.
✅ Flexible Room Servicing / Cleaning Arrangements - Staff are used to FIFO night workers and the cleaners accommodate this requirement /fairly/ well. As long as I'm up by 2pm, I can usually get them to clean the room.
✅ Staff & housekeeping Are SUPER Friendly - Everyone seems to actually LIKE working here and are all very accommodating, nothing seems to be too much trouble.
✅ Room Amenities Are OK - In their small (B) apartments, the kitchen is decent for basic cooking, no oven, but stove and microwave is handy. Fridge is like a bar fridge, and a little too small for me, but I made it work.
CONS:
❌ Parking Situation isn't Great - Parking is on-site, and securely fenced, BUT the bays are pretty small and all the FIFO guys are in big utes and we can all barely fit. That said, they don't oversell their carpark, so at least you CAN get a bay, even if its too small for your vehicle. Fair warning almost everyone parks badly and you can barely get in and out of your vehicle.
❌ Multiple Fire Alarm Tests / Alarms - Had 2 tests (seems a little excessive) and 1 actual alarm during my stay. Alarm wasn't even a guest, it was set off by a trade that didn't isolate the fire panel. Annoying as it means you're out of bed during the day while trying to sleep. Hopefully this experience isn't typical.
❌ Not a fan of 'common area' washing machines - Probably the one /proper/ thing that actually bothered me on this trip. Having to keep going down to the ground floor to do laundry instead of having one in the room. People leave clothing in them too so the machines make your clothes smell a little 'off', kind of a moldy scent. Pick your times to do laundry wisely or them old tourists will steal your dryer.
Overall I'd say 8 out of 10.
