Where to Stay in Melbourne During Your Visit (Updated 2025)

"For families I recommend Quest St. Kilda Bayside because its 56 suites include kitchens, washing machines, and multiple bedrooms, and it's within walking distance of St. Kilda attractions including Luna Park." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Melbourne

"Just minutes from St. Kilda Beach, this four-star apartment hotel has a modern, minimalist design and a relaxed, home-like atmosphere that’s ideal for longer stays. Amenities include a small outdoor pool, BBQ facilities, a gym, and secure on-site parking; there’s no on-site restaurant but each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants nearby. The spacious apartments offer separate living and dining areas, full kitchens with stove, microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, and tea/coffee maker, plus a washer/dryer and smart TVs; bathrooms are clean with walk-in showers that have excellent water pressure and nice complimentary toiletries. Overall, I find these apartments provide the essential amenities and space for a comfortable stay near the beach." - Matthew Kepnes

Boomer here, firstly, I had a minor issue which the staff at reception, Ceisa?, was very patient in helping me resolve. We had a group of 9 that included children in different rooms between 3 floors. The 1 dbl bedroom I stayed in is similar to a self contained flat/unit, very nice - had the essential items you needed including a washing machine & dryer, iron & ironing board and the hot water cylinder you use daily is tucked away under the wash basin cabinet - very convenient. Most of us choose the 'Do Not Disturb' sign option that you hang on the door for staff to see. That means they won't come into your room during your stay. Only thing is you can request for assistance via intercom in your room, or go to reception yourself. My grandchildren were hoping to use the pool but unfortunately it was under maintenance. So we took to the beach about 10 minutes walk away past some café, shops, trams & park. One of our room did have a faulty card for accessing the room which I put down to a temporary glitch in the system which was soon resolved. Also, short of towels and tea towels over the weekend. These are just a few minor issues but something to be aware of from the hoteliers perspective. My family and I did enjoy our stay and will likely to return. Oh, did I mention there's a church across the road if you're looking for devine intervention...

If you do not want or need the full services of a hotel Quest St Kilda Bayside is an excellent place to stay. The apartment is roomy with a balcony and very close to a range of restaurants and stores with all you need for a stay. The location is close to the CBD and anywhere in the southern area of Melbourne. There are a pool and a gym which I did not use but they both look great. Highly recommended!

Overall great stay. Location is excellent - just moments from tram. Walking distance to main cafes and bars of Acland St as well as the beach front. Only 15 min tram ride to the city centre (casino)

Great location, no doubt about that. However, the overall service was absolutely terrible. Upon arrival, we were greeted, and a deposit of $300 was taken from my credit card. Once we checked in, we discovered that the elevator was broken, and we had to carry our bags, pram, and other items through the emergency exit with no assistance offered by the staff. When we entered the room, it had a strong fishy smell, as if someone had cooked seafood inside. To make matters worse, we found half-eaten bread and leftover food inside the cupboard above the fridge. We immediately reported this to reception, and they offered to change our room, but since we had a tight schedule, we decided to leave the premises for the day. Later that evening, while I was hosting a dinner, I received a call from the receptionist claiming that I had not paid for the room and accusing me of using an illegal credit card. Shocked, I asked to speak to a manager right away, but the receptionist told me there was no manager on the premises because it was Sunday. She kept demanding my credit card details over the phone, which I found completely inappropriate and refused to provide. Despite my explanation, she continued to call several times during my dinner, insisting I return to the hotel and warning that if we weren’t back by 9 p.m., we would be locked out of our room. I explained that our clothes and my asthma medication were inside, and we needed access. We arrived back just before 9 p.m., where the situation escalated further. When I calmly asked why the room charge wasn’t processed at check-in when the $300 deposit was authorized, the receptionist was unable to answer and became defensive. She then called the manager, who arrived and immediately accused me of being rude pointing fingers and raising her voice. Yes, I was upset, but for a very valid reason. Where was this manager when I requested speak to before this escalation? Eventually, after calling security and making a scene, the manager realized the hotel had made a serious mistake and finally apologized though only after having no other choice. This experience was extremely stressful and unprofessional. A great location cannot make up for the complete lack of customer service, respect, and accountability shown by the staff.

Everything about the stay was excellent except for a few small things with the apartment. ||Needs better prep knives and chopping board and stove is only stop and full bore. Couch could be comfier.||Otherwise everything was absolutely perfect. Amazing location and staff are friendly and helpful with all requests.

Great place with great staff. Location is a bit out there for town centre but trams nearby. Close to sea and good good all around it. Good value and esp reception staff is really great!

ZERO STARS — AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This is without question the worst accommodation experience I have ever had. The rooms were dirty, run-down, and poorly maintained, and looked absolutely nothing like what is advertised online. Basic cleanliness and upkeep were clearly not a priority. The staff were worse. Unhelpful, dismissive, and completely unavailable when it actually mattered. On New Year’s Eve, we lost our room fob. Despite this property advertising “24/7 support,” there was NO support. No one answered. No emergency contact. No assistance whatsoever. I was forced to climb a three-storey building just to access my room. That is not only unacceptable — it is dangerous. If something had gone wrong, there would have been no help at all. Advertising 24/7 support when it clearly does not exist is misleading. Guests rely on that promise for safety, and this property failed completely. It gets worse. They refunded my $300 deposit, then later re-charged my card without authorisation, claiming I had damaged property. The item they referred to was my own personal game, broken in the reception area — not their property. Re-charging a guest’s card after a refund, without consent, is completely unacceptable and deeply concerning. Between the misleading advertising, unsafe conditions, non-existent support, and unauthorised card charge, this place shows a shocking lack of professionalism and accountability. This business should not be trusted with your safety or your money. Save yourself the stress, risk, and potential financial issues — stay literally anywhere else.

This was my honest review... Rooms: there was rubbish from other guests and I would not recommend staying. I highly recommend to not use the kitchen! Service: The service is very poor... They were so rude and they don't listen. Also, good thing is that it's cozy and it's away from the crowds. Just understand that is not your fault. I would not recommend staying here by the way.
