Quinn's Almost by the Sea

Quinn’s was a good place to stop in and check out the vibe and food here. Atmosphere is very cool, lots of space and chill spot. My burger was fantastic, cooked perfectly and absolutely loved the Quinn’s brand on top. Wife and daughter shared the fish order and found it to be a tad overcooked but still tasty. Restroom is a shared one which was a bit to Pub like and a little less tidy. Service from the time we entered to the end was fantastic and top notch. Flowers all around made it feel cozy and inviting. I would still highly recommend making this place a stop, their menu has a lot to offer.

This a low key classic restaurant. Good prices. The food was good. I had the Mahi Mahi fish and chips. Huge portions. The fish was tasty and the fries were very good. I had a Mai tai which was expected. Service was fine. It was raining hard out side and we sat out side which was nice but the floors had a lot of water on it which we had to be careful of. Not a big deal but we could have slipped. There was a slippery floor sign there. My daughters had the chicken tacos and they loved them.

We ate here our last night in Kona - just walked over from the Courtyard where we were staying. The waitress was nice, but a bit strong in the way she suggested that I get the Ono for my Fish and Chips, but I took her recommendation and ordered it. My wife got the Fish sandwich. The atmosphere was interesting with some of the sports memorabilia, but the air in the area we were seated in felt stuffy. It felt to both of us that the food took longer than it should have coming out, and once it did we both said that it was just average. It looked good, and the portion size was large, but it just didn't taste that good. I don't think either of us finished our meal. Not a bad choice in coming here as it was convenient and reasonably priced, but we didn't think the food was that good.

We went here for lunch. I got the Ono fish and chips. It was very good. The Ono is a little different fish so you need to be prepared for that. The waitress was very good at letting us know about the Ono before we ordered. It is a denser fish that has a texture and feel of chicken. It doesn’t have a very fishy flavor but also doesn’t taste like chicken. I thought it was very good. My sister, who isn’t a huge fish fan, ordered it and loved it. My wife had the Ahi (tuna) fish sandwich. It was grilled and the Ahi was unbelievable. It was so, so good. We both had fries and they were fine. The tartar sauce was also very good. Overall a great experience.

This is the tale of two reviews. Went on a Tuesday for lunch. Place was packed. Service was great, on point. Got a burger and onion rings, thought they were fantastic. Planned to leave a review that night, and didn't. Went again on Thursday night for late dinner after diving manta rays. Got there 45 min before closing. Ordered the Captain's Platter, they were out of calamari. Ordered the Rueben instead. While waiting for food, was entertained by the bartender and waitress getting into an argument about "cutting off the tops" of a stack of paper. He acts like a child, curses her out, then throws the stack on the floor. 10 minutes later, he's still talking under his breath about it. Food comes. Rueben tastes off. Old. Meat is like shoe leather. Nothing good about it at all. Paid our bill and left. Next morning, whole body aches by 9am, couldn't keep anything down or in for two days. Full on food poisioning. Ended up at the local ER for fluids. This morning, talked to someone at the Courtyard who ate there the same day we did, also got sick. It's roulette. Take your chances.

Important, use the hotel parking lot across the street and get your parking validated! Got to go up to the hostess to get on the list or you might just be wasting some time. Food was good. The fish Tacos were good. Nice spice but can be messy! The Ono fish and chips were good and was a very generous portion! Service was great and the atmosphere eclectic. Thank you

Rustic bar atmosphere w seafood and American favorites. I got the fisherman's platter-like dish. It was ok, but not mind-blowing.

Great restaurant! We went here for the first time and had a good experience. The fish sandwich was very good and had a big chunck of grilled fish. My husband got the shrimp and fries and he really enjoyed it - the shrimp were great quality. And the drinks were delicious and fairly strong! And lastly, the soup of the day (beef and vegetable) was do hearty and delicious - highly recommended!

Was a great location for food and a fun time. Packed with looks of people the service was good. Wonderful lighting sets the mood. Drink was very watered down, I thought they made me a mocktail.

First time here , definitely recommend if you are a Packers fan!! We are Steelers fans and came with Packers fans but had games on all TVS . Katherine was our server , so sweet ! We only had few beers and zucchini, bar food but was served hot and fast on a super busy game day!! Everyone here is dressed in Packers gear so make sure you participate on game day here . Lots of memorabilia in here , very cool .

Really fun place that was great. We wandered in on a Thurday night (they are closed on wed and saturday) and there was a bit of a line to get in, there were tables but didn't want to wait so we found 2 seats at the bar. The owners daugher-in-law was the bar tender! I had the ono fish and chips, they were like no other fish and chips I have ever had. I really like a solid meaty fish vs. flaky typical fish. My wife had shrimp scampi and loved it. Portions were huge and oh I usually say no to french fries but these steak frys were worth the carbs. Highly recommended!!!

Was a great location for food and packed inside & out cars, the wait ridiculous cocktail drink was very watered down, I thought they made me a mocktail.

We were a group of 8 for dinner, made reservation and it was a good thing that we did. This place could get really busy so do make a reservation if you're a large group. Good service, salads are huge, fresh and filling, burgers were juice and tasty too. Tables on the back is outdoor but covered, orchid and all kinds of plants creating a lush rainforest atmosphere. They'll validate parking ticket from King Kam hotel.

Very casual place that's -- as you can guess from its name -- is almost by the sea but not quite there. Air conditioned indoor seating area. Solid size portions. I ordered Cajun ono sashimi and was pleasantly surprised with its size, I'd say it's perfect on its own. Fish tacos were good. Kitchen closes an hour before closing time!

BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER! They offer three different types of fish to choose from. I opted for the ono fish, and it tasted amazing! They fried it to perfection. The dish came with fries, and my piña colada was just right. I also ordered a side of coleslaw, which was delicious as well! The owners are from Wisconsin, so it has a Packers theme. Kids are welcome here, and all the servers are friendly. Be sure to arrive early, as it tends to get busy!

Love this place! Don't be discouraged by the parking, just get in there. Great food! Our fav is the fish and chips but we've had good salads, steaks and pupus too.

The food is always great. The Ono fish and chips are one of best in Kona. The onion rings are crispy and light, not greasy. The servers are friendly and attentive. It a wonderful place to have a meal almost by the sea. There is indoor seating as well as a very nice patio.

Food wasn't that great. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't great. The staff and the service was good though.

Server Tamera was awesome! Got the beef tips in wine gravy and it reminded me of my mom's sauerbraten! Lots of meat, onion, shrooms and gravy! Pineapple slaw was addicting. The back patio area is a beautifully decorated hillside garden with a banyan tree. Front right bar area is a packer shrine and to the left of it, an alcohol shrine!

My family waited about 45 minutes to be seated. Food was so so. The cheese curds were yummy. The fish and chips was a big portion and tasted like your typical fish and chips. My mom got the steak with shrimp and potatoes. The steak was bad as it wasn't seasoned but the shrimp was good. My brother got the spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread and it was basic.

Just down the street from the beach. We got seated right away. We sat in a partially outdoor area and we really like it out there. Inside looked more like a pub. Service was excellent. Our food was amazing, especially my ahi tuna sandwich WOW. Highly recommend this place.

This is the worst service and experience I have had at a restaurant in a very long time. The sad part is the food is good but the service is horrendous!!! Our server literally ignored our table the whole time we were there. She came to our table no joke 2 times in an hour and half. There was never any follow up on how the food is. Not a single offer for a refill of drinks or water. I had to extend the time on our parking three times finally after it expired again I went to ask the hostess for assistance in getting our check so we could pay and get out of there before having to pay for parking again. Turns out the waitress is not the rudest employee there the hostess is! she was so ugly to me I could not believe how she was speaking to a paying customer. I will never return to be treated so rudely by not one but two employees is just ridiculous. There are way too many restaurants in the area to put up with such rude nasty employees.

Such a cool packer bar... so many fun fans and yummy food! We decided to stop in on our vacation and loved all the packer spirit!!!

Super tasty food! I loved the burger (big surprise, wasn't expecting to) and the fish n chips. Server was attentive but fast, and we sat inside to escape the high UV at 12pm

Quinn's Almost By the Sea There are a number of options in Kona. One of which is Quinn's Almost by the Sea. It is on the North side of the city and away from the tourist area. The restaurant is very casual. Their drinks and food are very reasonably priced. We had a number of the MaiTai's to initiate our lunch. The drinks were served quickly and were very good. Our lunch selections of fish & chips, fish sandwich, and a hamburger were excellent. Overall, a great place for lunch with very reasonably priced drinks and lunches. Highly recommend.

4 of us dined here. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and dinner plates. Food was not good all the way around. We were disappointed as this place came recommended by locals and looked forward to going.

We eat at Quinn's every time we come to Kona. Their fish and chips have always been outstanding. We ordered ono fish and chips which was great. However I got fish and chips that was mahi mahi that was very fishy. So disappointed because their batter is delicious. Beat onion rings ever. My brother got mahi mahi sandwich that also tasted fishy. So I'm not sure why we didn't have good fish but I was bummed. The waitress was awesome. I would go again but maybe order something other than mahi mahi. Beware not open on Sat!!

We popped in for lunch after work asking all over for Iron Man. So yeah, they were busy! Our waitress (from Michigan, originally!) was super attentive and kept me with a beer. Hooked me up with Malt Vinegar, and made fish recommendations. We were in the back, next to a fountain, which had a lizard chilling close by (I love all the lizards around Big Island). It was perfect temp - a fan gave us a nice breeze to cool down. The food was decent - not the best fish and chips, but still pretty damn good. The sashimi was thinly sliced, but melt in your mouth tender. My date ordered a chicken Caesar salad and it was huge - pretty sure the croutons were made with sweet bread - but it dated her appetite from walking all day.

Quinn's is a beach side restaurant that has a garden setting for seating with orchids plants , fans and lava rock walls, as well as indoor seating, and a bar area. The parking is a little tight, but usually we are able to find a spot. Many local and return visitors come for the calamari, burgers and fish and chips. We usually get the fish and chips as it is very fresh. Ono or mahi mahi. Their mai tai's are a nice size The servers are very attentive and friendly. The music is soft rock.

Food is amazing! The service is spectacular! Absolutely a first choice when in town!!

Quinn's is right across from King Kam Hotel. Parking is a little weird so just bring your patience and pull in. We stopped here after a long day in Hilo and Quinn's did not disappoint. My fellow diners had the mai tai and i had the pina colada. Two of us had burgers and myself and friend had the monte cristo. Geeze I haven't seen one of these on a menu in LA since i moved out of San Pedro (Pac diner had one to die for) . Here they triple decker the sandwich and use a crunchy panko breading and deep fry your sammy. served along side a giant container of powdered sugar but I wished that they served it with a big spoonful of strawberry jam but they gave you tiny smuckers jelly individually wrapped and none were the same so i mixed apple and strawberry . There was so much food my friend and i shared it for breakfast the next day. It was served with perfectly cooked steak fries . We will be back again same bat time, same bat place next year ! Looking forward to it .

My parents have lived on the Big Island for 18 years, and my dad has always said that his favorite restaurant is Quinn's. Tonight I finally got to see why. It was a Sunday night and we arrived at 5pm and only had to wait about 20 minutes for a seat on their Lanai. Definitely worth the wait. It was very noisy and stuffy inside, but their Lanai in the back of the restaurant is quiet, spacious and lovely. The lanai is surrounded by beautiful orchids that were all amazingly in bloom. We ordered Calamari and Onion Rings for appetizers. I'm not a calamari fan but was told it was very good, however the onion rings were the best I've ever had. Quinn's homemade onion rings, are prepared perfectly crisp are not greasy, and our covered in a delicious tempura batter. I also added a cup of French Onion Soup to my dinner which had very little salt and just enough bread and cheese in it to make it top-notch. For entrees, my husband and I split the Quinn's Special Salad and the Ahi Dinner. Both were phenomenal . The Ahi was grilled rare and melt-in-your mouth perfection. The Quinn's potatoes served with it were slightly mashed with grilled onions, and then smashed on the grill so the outside was crispy. The salad was full of flavor with very fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, hard boiled egg, avocado, croutons and shredded cheese, then all topped with poke and grilled shrimp. Amazing. Service was excellent, thanks to Dana. She was prompt and pleasant, and made sure that we were well taken care of. Like my dad, I have to agree that Quinn's is now my favorite Big Island restaurant.

We met a friend here for dinner. I was skeptical as it just looks like a bar, which it does have a bar, but it also has a back patio that is quite comfortable. Lots of plants, a water feature, lots of fans to keep you cool and comfortable. My husband had the Ono Fish & Chips and he liked it very much. I had shrimp scampi. It was very good. The shrimp were large and so sweet tasting. Delicious. We had a great waiter that was attentive, friendly, and gave great recommendations for us 1st timers. Friendly greeting from the hostess. A really great place. We will definitely be back.

The restaurant was so loud we couldn't even have a conversation across the table & the fish tacos were over-cooked & bland... Service was good though... ‍

We have been going to Quinn's since 2002. It was recommended to us by a charter captain, saying it was one of the local restaurants that bought fresh fish and seafood daily from the local boats. We have never been disappointed. The fish and chips are the best we have ever had (we recommend asking for Ono)

Good option if you're in the area. Very nice and kind servers, decent selection of drinks and just few draft beers.. that makes an easier decision. The food looks fresh and flavorful. Fish Tacos, Fish and Chips and (especially) Shrimp Scampi were good option. The place is a great easy going, casual bar worth the try.

This place holds up ... all the food is tasty, portions are generous, back patio is a little escape in the areas. Parking available right across the street.

I went here with a few friends! I ordered a frozen margarita but it was flavorless so I tried a margarita on the rocks! The second drink was pretty good. The food was amazing and plentiful! We sat at the bar and the server was very pleasant. It's worth a try!

The place is very good, parking is not easy but it's worth the effort. Service with a smile. A bit of wonderful local flavor.

The outside says air conditioning and it was a really hot day but we were set outside on a patio. We ordered the stuffed avocado to start and it was just half a raw avocado with a scoop of tuna salad on top with cut veggies and 3 small triangles of bread. The fish and chips didn't have much of a taste and my "blended" drink didn't have much ice in it and was warm quickly and very syrupy. We hadn't been in over 5 years and now we remember why. Service was good, but the food and drinks are not worth the price and the ambiance is lacking.

Moved to Kona 4 years ago, always wanted to eat at Quinn's Almost by the sea Got to eat there today , they didn't disappoint. Got the fish and chips with fish Ono and a side of the pineapple coleslaw, it was so delicious. Portions Very generous, just really good food The waitress so wonderful checked on us 3 times and refilled our iced tea with being asked Now days it's hard to find great food And great customer service Thank you

Great food, service, and prices. My family of Vikings fans ended up accidentally at a Packers bar for the Vikings-Packers game in January. It was a lot of fun. Our server was fun and helpful and didn't mind us hanging around for the whole game. I felt like the drinks were very reasonably priced. A good frozen blended drink for $11? Heck yeah! The food we had was good too. Fish and chips were fantastic!

Always a terrific meal at Quinn's. It's a definite go to place for great food, service and friendliness!! My wife loves the stuffed avocado and I love the ono fish and chips! Everything is always great! Highly recommend Quinn's!!!!

I ordered the burger and it was big and very good. I asked for it medium and it was definitely more well done but still tasted great. Service was fast and I did not have to wait to be seated. Inside was more of a sports bar vibe but outside was quieter and had some nice greenery.

The food has always been great. My wife and I always make the restaurant a place to have Lunches and dinners. We have been doing this stop for a long time. Consistently great.

I can't believe how many times I've walked past this place and never thought anything of it. I've always assumed it was a tourist trap because of its location, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. They're known for their fish and chips, so that's exactly what I got! There was a generous portion of fish, and it was very moist. I ended up eating the fish and chips for two meals because of how much food there was. Our waitress was very friendly. We came a little after 7, and there was a short wait to get a table. I would definitely recommend Quinn's if you're in the area. Plus, there's free validated parking in the lot right across the street at the Marriott.

Hostess was terrible with poor communication and a surly attitude. She didn't tell us how long the wait for a table for four was, just stomped off after I gave her my name. Had to confirm for myself she actually wrote it down. Super unwelcoming. Kalbi beef was good, as were the cheese curds. The fish tacos made me nauseous. Also had a bite of the fish n chips, which were bland. There are better restaurants within walking distance. Pass on this place.

This place was recommended to us by a local and it is amazing! We had the fish and chips and the Ono Cajun sandwich. The pineapple slaw is fantastic!! Service was awesome and a really great place all around! We will be back before we leave! Wish we could take it home with us!

The food is great and the portions are huge. There are so many different things I like here. My mother in law loves the Ono fish sandwich and orders it every time. The clam chowder is super tasty too. I also really like the outdoor seating area.

The Ribeye Special for $42 was Amazing Their Famous Fish & Chips not so much the fish was tough & dry I still really like this place Beautiful patio seating great service great bar It gets very busy but we only waited about 20 mins for a table. They validate parking at King Kam across the street very cool All in All I'll definitely go back Aloha Nui Loa
