Really nice place, very welcoming and a really impressive collection of plants. As for those who say it's not open or not all open they probably didn't go far enough in. You need too follow the signs to get to the growing area up some steps where you are greeted by someone who will explain what it's about I'm no gardener but I was really impressed by the extent of the collection and the interesting variation of flowers. Well worth 5 euro even for me.

If you like orchids, hold onto your hat, this is the place to visit. Good news, looks like it's getting the investment, works and support to bring it up to date. Last few visits a few years back it was in decline but now it's getting a new life into the place. A fantastic selection of orchids, beauties even a non lover will admire. Well worth a walk up the hill, or drive up. Not far from the market in town, but transport advised.

Definitely worth visiting, amazing flowers and people with passion that will tell you everything you need to know about the orchids!! Great place for a family trip. The owners are really passionate and love what they are doing. When they are telling you all those amazing facts about the flowers they make it so interesting, that I could stand there the whole day! There is so many different orchid species that everyone will be really impressed by just looking at them. As far as I know you can buy some of the flowers there which is a very good option and opportunity for someone who wants to own this beautiful flower.

Well worth the visit. We must have spent hours looking at all the different orchids and other flowers there. Some rare orchids and other plants you probably won’t see anywhere else. They have orchids for sale as well. Beautiful view of Funchal from the garden. If you love flowers make sure you don’t miss out on visiting this place. You won’t be disappointed.

Loved it here, really recommend for orchid lovers or any other plant lovers. They have a large collection of orchids: Cattleyas, Dendrobiums, Vandaceous, Phals, Oncidiums and so on which you can admire, but some other plants too. Of course not all of them are in bloom, but for orchid collectors is still interesting. The entrance fee is 5€ per person. The owner, Patrick, is very friendly and we could‘ve discussed all day with him about orchids. I ended up buying one miniature Dendrobium for 15€, which is a good price compared to what other nurseries in Europe offer.

The plants are beautiful, but the whole place seems wild and sort of abandoned. I'd say in current state of things the ticket price is too high. We walked in and after some time a silent lady appeared, but didn't even approach us, I turned back to ask if we need a ticket and then she confirmed. At the main gate there are some old items of various kinds scattered, a wreck of a car (unless it's a "project", then sorry xD). It makes an impression of doing urbex or trespassing.

Quote from owner. ticket cost 5 Eur. November is not a main season of orchids, so if you are not an orchid lover probably you would think the fee did not worse the price. It is honest, but I gave three stars as there is no info here that tickets are need to be purchased. Picture is from the garden outside
