If you like orchids, hold onto your hat, this is the place to visit. Good news, looks like it's getting the investment, works and support to bring it up to date. Last few visits a few years back it was in decline but now it's getting a new life into the place. A fantastic selection of orchids, beauties even a non lover will admire. Well worth a walk up the hill, or drive up. Not far from the market in town, but transport advised.

The plants are beautiful, but the whole place seems wild and sort of abandoned. I'd say in current state of things the ticket price is too high. We walked in and after some time a silent lady appeared, but didn't even approach us, I turned back to ask if we need a ticket and then she confirmed. At the main gate there are some old items of various kinds scattered, a wreck of a car (unless it's a "project", then sorry xD). It makes an impression of doing urbex or trespassing.

Fabulous hidden treasure, over 3000 plants and 2000 varieties, beautiful orchids.

Quote from owner. ticket cost 5 Eur. November is not a main season of orchids, so if you are not an orchid lover probably you would think the fee did not worse the price. It is honest, but I gave three stars as there is no info here that tickets are need to be purchased. Picture is from the garden outside

Serendipity led us to this magical place, and we couldn't be more grateful for the discovery. Patricio was incredibly kind and guided us through his greenhouses, which are filled with an infinite variety of orchids and other unique plants. The time he dedicated to us was invaluable, full of explanations, historical anecdotes, and fascinating insights into the world surrounding his plants. His passion shines through every word, and his actions reflect the care he puts into the demanding daily maintenance of Quinta da Boa Vista. We feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit this special place and hope to return in the future. Thank you! Alice and Gian Luca from Modena (Italy)

Definitely worth visiting, amazing flowers and people with passion that will tell you everything you need to know about the orchids!! Great place for a family trip. The owners are really passionate and love what they are doing. When they are telling you all those amazing facts about the flowers they make it so interesting, that I could stand there the whole day! There is so many different orchid species that everyone will be really impressed by just looking at them. As far as I know you can buy some of the flowers there which is a very good option and opportunity for someone who wants to own this beautiful flower.

It was a little bit hard to find, but after...the collection is one of the best I had ever seen. Good blossoming time (2024 mid jan) made magic creations not just for flower shapes, for fragrances too with gardener's high level knowlege. Much more better than the two main botanical garden's on Madeira. Thanks for the experience. Recommended to all (not just) orchid lovers. Best wishes.
