"Once a family estate, this Madeira hotel is centered around an old manor house, now with five suites and a restaurant. Rooms in an adjacent complex have subtle floral themes to complement the outdoors, and staying there was like being given my own botanical garden. (There were even signs on the trees to tell me whether I was looking at a Sri Lankan true cinnamon or a karaka from New Zealand.) And every amble around the grounds was sidetracked by an encounter: with a lizard or a lawn swing or, once, a small plantation of bananas. Doubles from $276." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Absolutely stunning gardens and plant collection, a must stay hotel for anyone that loves plants. Better selection of plants than some of the botanical gardens on the island.||Friendly staff, great breakfasts, close enough to Funchal old town but not too close, so you get to have a nice walk. Make sure you try the bananas that grow on site!

As everyone has said, immaculate, overwhelmingly beautiful gardens, great staff, excellent food, clean and very well serviced throughout. We had a garden suite, which was bigger than we expected and beautifully furnished and maintained. Booked bed and breakfast - bed huge and very comfortable, breakfast consistently great, with plenty of variety.||Would return and recommend without hesitation. Probably not one for families with teenagers or younger children, but fabulous if you like total relaxation in perfect surroundings.||I read some comments about "unsuitable for those with mobility issues". Unless you are in a chair or needing a wheeled walking aid, I think most folk will be fine. There are crazy-paved paths and some steps throughout the gardens. I walk with a stick and had no issues.||Here goes the hyperbole..., without doubt, the best couples, holiday hotel I have ever stayed in.

This hotel is set in beautiful surroundings- quiet, tranquil and lush pristine tended gardens. The staff are wonderful- happy , welcoming & very attentive! |The breakfast is super fresh and extensive with hot cooked to order from the kitchen and cold selections replenished regularly. |Housekeeping is discreet and thorough. |Facilities within the hotel are lovely - two small pools kept super clean and tidy with pool towels and waiter service. |The Bistro serves delicious food and is a good option if you don’t want to walk the 35-40 minute walk down into the town. |I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again! |A real personal homely feel which made for a great holiday in Madeira!

This is a superb hotel set in gorgeous botanic gardens with outstanding faultless service, food and facilities. We were on a Jet2 package holiday for a well deserved break after a busy working week in Paris. Reception services were welcoming and attentive and they personally showed us to our room. We had a Garden Room and we were so pleased we didn’t go for a Manor House room or newer section as it suited us to be able to access the garden. It was comfortable and spacious and had a lovely outdoor area with sun beds overlooking the garden. Unlike previous comments we found the room had plenty of charging units in the charging tower in the desk. The aircon worked just fine and yes, it was an over bath shower but a slip mat was provided. Maybe not the best for those with significant mobility issues as the paths are stone and a bit uneven and there is no lift downstairs to the rooms.|The breakfast buffet was delicious and extensive and the staff were very attentive and quick to take cooked orders. The restaurant was excellent - intimate and comfortable with great food and service. Better steak frites than anywhere in Paris!!!|We had one meal in the Dining Room which was very nice (suggestion - more vegetables!) but we preferred the more relaxed restaurant. Lots of local restaurants outside - we liked 3L’s. Cris’s was very touristy but good food. A beautiful relaxing hotel with great spa - best massage. Highly recommend and enjoy the joyful blackbirds singing!

Absolutely stunning hotel that you would never know was close to traffic. The gardens are beautiful and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast has a good array of choices and is kept well stocked up. The lunch and dinner options are great and the bar is busy and quiet all at the same time. We were scuba diving most days so had a steep walk down to the dive centre and a tiring one back up but wouldn’t have chosen differently even if we’d realised how hilly Funchal was! It’s is close enough to the centre to walk to and there are plenty of taxis if you can’t face the walk back. We only used the pool once but it was lovely and the table service for drinks etc is a great touch. Would go back in a heart beat.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Madeira. The staff were exceptionally kind, professional, and always willing to help, which made us feel truly welcome and well taken care of. What impressed me the most, however, was the location – the hotel is set in a beautiful botanical garden, which creates a truly unique and peaceful atmosphere. Waking up surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers was an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to stay with excellent service and stunning surroundings, this hotel is a perfect choice.

An excellent and quality 'small hotel' that had excellent facilities on a quiet basis in wonderful grounds. Also very good as a base to visit elements of this incredible island and a very helpful reception. If you want in house entertainment as we do not, this is not the place. If you want an exclusive, quiet hotel with excellent service to go with it ..this is up there at the top of hotels for this purpose. Hence the scores

Had a week here in early June. The hotel is lovely in manicured gardens. We stayed in 305. The room was on the second floor. Stair access only but no issues for us. The room was lovely, comfortable beds, spotlessly clean, great shower and bath, loads of amenities and cleaned every day. The bed was comfortable. AC was efficient. The balcony was a great place to chill. Breakfast was great with good buffet and hot options available. All catering and housekeeping staff were very friendly and welcoming. Partner said the spa was amazing. Massage was the best. People with mobility issues may find some aspects difficult but many rooms are on the ground floor although there are steps in a lot of areas. The one minor gripe would be that the fridge in our room was small and inefficient - that was the only minor issue and everything else was great. When checking in we were met in reception by a lovely young lady called Jennifer who showed us to our room and explained everything abount the hotel we needed to know. We also asked Jennifer to recomend some excursions and we did a day tour of the west of the Island and a easy walking tour - both were exactly as Jennifer described, she is a credit to the Hotel. Thanks Jennifer! We used taxis into Funchal a couple of times and this is a 7 - 10 euro cost depending on times etc. Loads of taxis were available at the times we needed them. Its a pretty easy walk but the hill up to the hotel can be a bit brutal after a day out with food and beer. Loads of food/drink options within walking distance though. This hotel is not a lively party hotel but I'm not sure that Madeira is that type of holiday? Overall we had a lovely relaxing week at Cassa Branca.
