Broken promises... Our second stay at Casa Cimeira, but we'll never stay there again. We opted to return to the Douro region this fall to see the olive harvest. Several months in advance, I contacted Paolo, who owns Casa Cimeira with his brother Miguel, and asked if they could help us arrange a visit to watch the olive harvest. He assured me that he would arrange this, either at his own property or with others nearby. A few weeks before our visit, I contacted Paolo again to confirm, and he reassured me that we were all set. As we drove to Casa Cimeira from Porto, I messaged Paolo to confirm a time and place we could meet that afternoon. He was not there when we arrived. He then said his brother Miguel couldn't meet that day after all but would accompany us in the morning to the olive harvest. When neither Paolo nor Miguel appeared in the morning, Paolo then said Miguel would meet with us after lunch. We waited for 2 hours for Miguel, trying to reach him by message and phone, but he did not answer. Paolo did not respond either. By about 3pm, we finally reached Paolo and told him we had been waiting for his brother for hours; he said he would contact him. More time passed without hearing from either. I finally reached Paolo and he said that they would not take us to an olive harvest after all. What a disappointment after a string of broken promises. If they couldn't help us arrange to see the olive harvest, Paolo should have told me that when I first asked him, when making a reservation. But apparently he didn't want to lose our business of a several night stay, so he strung us on with a series of broken promises. Casa Cimeira itself seems to have deteriorated since we were there 7 months ago -- staff seemed uninterested in guests, our room had a sewer smell, and neither brother ever appeared to greet guests, unlike before. We won't return.
