**Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino Review** During my recent visit to Santa Marta, I had the opportunity to explore the historic Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, and it was an enriching and memorable experience. This beautiful estate is not only a picturesque spot but also a significant historical landmark, known for being the place where Simon Bolivar spent his final days. The estate itself is stunning, with well-preserved colonial architecture and lush gardens that create a serene atmosphere. Walking through the grounds, I was struck by the sense of history that permeates the place. The main house, with its elegant rooms and period furnishings, offers a glimpse into the past and the life of Simon Bolivar. One of the highlights of my visit was the guided tour. I highly recommend taking a tour with one of the knowledgeable guides who work on tips. Our guide was exceptional, providing detailed insights into the history of the estate and the final days of Simon Bolivar. His passion for the subject was evident, and his storytelling brought the history to life, making the experience much more engaging and informative. In addition to the historical aspects, Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino also houses a small museum with artifacts and exhibits related to Simon Bolivar and the independence movement in Latin America. It was fascinating to see these historical items up close and learn more about their significance. The property also includes a botanical garden with a variety of native plants and trees, adding to the overall beauty and tranquility of the estate. It’s a perfect spot to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the natural surroundings. Overall, my visit to Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino was a highlight of my trip to Santa Marta. The combination of rich history, beautiful architecture, and serene gardens made for a memorable experience. Whether you’re a history buff or simply looking for a peaceful and scenic place to visit, I highly recommend spending some time at this historic estate.

What a surreal experience. I studied him for so long and to be at his final resting place was a real personal highlight for me. A must go. Worth every drop of sweat. Bring water and stay hydrated.

Tour felt a little rushed but to be fair, I arrived near closing time. The humidity was high and the speed walking made it feel more like a light exercise than a tour. I would recommend arriving several hours before closing time, wearing comfortable breathable fabrics, as well as comfortable shoes. The space that you cover isn't that big, so you can take in the entire experience in an hour.

This wasn't cheap, COP $27,000 each. There really isn't sufficient to see to justify the price. Most of the buildings had nothing in them. There was a single carriage in the stable. The house did have furniture and other displays in the rooms, but these were sparse and most of the rooms were gated at the door. The 'museum' is an art gallery, exhibiting primarily modern art. It is spread over a number of different rooms, with an illogical route around the complex. The most disappointing thing was the so called Botanical Gardens. This is Shrubland. Even the path hasn't been maintained for years with plants and saplings growing in the middle of the path. The shrubland also is growing over the path in some areas, making it difficult to walk through. There were no trees, bushes or flowering plants, nothing native apart from what you would see by the side of the road. The only interesting things we saw during our visit were about 3 new types of birds and a number of different lizards. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY, IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
