The Best Hotels in Portugal to Visit This Fall | Vogue

"Built in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of Portugal’s oldest and most famous wine estates. The original 18th-century manor offers five rooms, resplendent with antique furnishings and a sense of history, while next door, the contemporary hotel designed by architect Francisco Vieira de Campos, houses eight rooms. The 158-acre property sits right on the bank of Rio Corgo, a tributary of the Douro, and offers stunning views of terraced hillsides. Tastings and vineyard tours are a must, and during the harvest season, guests can participate in picking and stomping the grapes." - Christine Chitnis

We had a wonderful experience at Quinta do Vallado! From the exquisite natural beauty of the grounds, the lovely gardens and pool, the wonderful luxurious and beautifully designed accommodations, to the delicious food offerings. It kept getting better and better! We only wished we could have stayed longer. The wine tour was exceptional! Jennifer was extremely knowledgeable and we had a delightful experience with her as our guide. The wine, of course, was delicious. I highly recommend the experience! It was our big splurge on our trip and it did not disappoint.

We stayed one night at Quinta Do Vallado and I wish we would have stayed the entire time we were in the Duro Valley. The customer service is at the highest level, and the food for dinner and breakfast was delicious and beautiful. We stayed in a room in the original building and it was so charming and cozy. They do an excellent job at highlighting the beautiful landscape, and sharing the rich history of the Duro Valley. If you are visiting the Duro Valley and do not stay here, you are missing out on one of the best experiences it has to offer.

We booked a winery tour and wine tasting experience with Quinta de Vallado. Tour guide was great! Very engaging, with great knowledge and patience to answer any questions from the group. Wine tasting was done very professionally but with lots of personal engagement from the tour guide. I would definitely recommend the tour to anybody who would like to find out more about wine making process and had a great wine tasting experience.

Long term wine and port producer offering accommodation in the Douro Valley. Great location, great staff, very nice rooms...outstanding view! Various hiking trails through the vineyards, nice pool, but don't miss the very good tour-wine tasting, which gives a great overview of port production from harvest to the bottle. Exceeded expectations! Oh yes, very nice wine & port here too 🍷👍😊.

Quinta do Vallado was probably the best accommodation experience my wife and I have ever had. The location and facilities, as well as the option to choose from their fully restored original suites as well as the new hotel facility was amazing (we opted for the original suites and loved it). The staff were incredibly friendly and professional and ensured every aspect of our stay was perfect. The breakfast buffet each morning was amazing, and I highly recommend anyone dines with Vallado for dinner at least one night during their stay; their food is amazing. Also can’t beat the immediate access to the vineyard and their products as well. My wife and I certainly plan to return; it was truly an unforgettable experience!

OUTSTANDING tour and wine tasting experience. Good walk around their beautiful facility learning about their processes. Then a wonderful seated tasting of 1 white, 3 reds, and one port. Highly recommend this quinta!

Probably the BEST wine tour you can get in the Duoro Valley. 300 years of history at the Quinta do Vallado started from the lady in the picture and specializing in Porto wines to the current winery with a broad array of wines. Loved the story of how this winery was started by a lady 300 years ago and basicaly developed the area! This tour lasted just a little over 2 hours. Cristina, our guide, was so knowledgeable and answered the many questions our group had, we were non stop. From seeing the original barrels to the modern ones in the wine barrack. From the harvest process to the foot stomping pools. From the difference between the process of Porto vs trad wines. From tasting white/red and porto. From the reception to the wine tasting it was what we had expected and wanted it to be. Surpassed our expectation actually! Big thanks to her for making this experience unforgettable and kudos to the team behind everything. Recommended for sure, thank me later!

We came here specifically to do a port tasting after a number of strong recommendations. We’re not disappointed!! The gentlemen looking after us were pleasant, informative and ensured that we enjoyed our time. If you’re in the area, make the time to visit Quinta do Vallardo.
