Quinta Marugo Retreats

We stayed for 3 nights and had an amazing time! From the location, the food and the hospitality, we enjoyed every moment. It was the perfect place to wind down from the busy lisbon life. The hosts gave us great advices for activities and restaurants in the area. The property is huge and allows you to do some easy 30 min walks. They even have a sunset spot, where you can truly admire the landscape. All in all, thank you Ugo and Mary Ann for this great experience!

We spent two nights at this wonderful place. The location, the food, and the peaceful atmosphere we experienced were absolutely perfect. The host was very friendly, approachable, and had a great sense of humor. We had an amazing couple of days there, and I truly hope we’ll have the chance to return someday.

We spent two nights at this amazing place and it exceeded all expectations! First of all, top credits to the amazing team that makes Marugo to what it is. From the moment we set foot on the picturesque country road that lead from the gate to this oasis, we received a warm en enthusiastic welcome by Ugo. His energetic charisma makes you feel at home straight away. Then there is Caroline who put her love in preparing a vegetarian breakfast and dinner that was of pure quality. All freshly picked from the garden or locally sourced from the neighbors. The bread, the cheese, the eggs... mouthwatering. To complete the three musketeers there is Nishal who greets you with his warm smiles and genuine interest, making sure the rooms and estate is in mint condition. Should you not yet be saturated with love from the team, you can still get some more at all the animals that are evenly welcoming and approachable as the staff. Donkeys, horses, cats, chickens.. they are all up for some attention and rewarding you with love and enthusiasm. But the special credits of Team Animal go to Caravaggio and Pino, the two dogs that could have walked out of a Disney movie. They are attentive and can be promoted to ´Certified Guides´ for all the walks you can do around the area. Every time we went for a walk they accompanied us, leading the way through the amazing nature, having a play at one of the little lakes, all before safely guiding us back home to the retreat. With all this hymn of praise to the team and animals I would almost forget to talk about the place itself.. It´s amazing. The dining- and living room of the main building is serene and nicely decorated. You really feel at home in one of the comfortable couches overlooking the garden and natural pool. The rooms are clean, beautiful and all you need to come to rest after a day of... more rest. Be sure to take a break between those places and look to the night sky. Thousands of stars will make you gaze in awe. All in all this is one of the best places we have visited in a long time. We could not think of any improvements or remarks. Mid wilderness Oasis |We spent a week at Marugo for a yoga retreat with 21 participants and teachers. The space we spent most of our time was the living room & dining room area. All beautifully designed, comfortable furniture and beautiful art with many windows open to the tree shaded open spaces. You will love this place if you want to get away from city life. Meditate, take short or long hikes and blend into nature. The rooms are basic, no internet, and air conditioning, but very pleasant and modern and clean. The staff were very friendly always ready to take an extra step to meet your needs with sincere smiles. The meals were out of this world. We chose vegetarian meals; they prepared a unique menu everyday. I am sitting at the dining table for our last breakfast. Taking in the beauty of the space and biting on my last peace of the wonderful home made bread. Thank you for a wonderful week.

Quinta Marugo is truly a beautiful place. I went there on a yoga retreat booked by my studio in the states. The whole place is eco-friendly and thoughtfully laid out. The rooms were lovely, the scenery was amazing and the owners gave us wonderful personal attention. I truly can’t speak high enough about my experience.

We stayed at Quinta Marugo for two nights to scout the location for the women’s retreats that we offer. Mary Ann and Ugo showed us so much attention and understood all our needs without us needing to express them. They put so much love and energy into establishing a space for personal development. The entire building was built with sustainability, elegance, and comfort in mind.|Quinta Marugo is located 10 minutes away from the next town and it’s a perfect location to completely reload your batteries. The nervous system shuts down as soon as you get out of the car. I immediately felt at home. We only planned to stay there for one night, but it turned out to be two and if we hadn't had an appointment in another city the next day, we probably would have stayed for a week.|Our room was large, and the size of the bathroom was generous. The furniture is modern but cozy. I adore the serene surroundings of the property which even includes two ponds with an otter living there. And I don't want to forget to mention the sweet spicy smell of the air in this place, which is almost beguiling.|

I love Quinta Marugo! It is such a beautiful and relaxing setting. The countryside and views from every direction are spectacular. Meditating and spending time in the pagoda is heavenly. The rooms, decoration, surroundings, and services are exquisite. The chef, when me and my partner stayed there, prepared the most delicious, tasty, and creative vegetarian food. Our time there was wonderful and we plan on coming back at least once a year. We are also really looking forward to signing up for some of the many workshops and retreats that MaryAnn and others offer there. We felt very warmly welcomed by both Ugo and MaryAnn. I highly recommend Quinta Marugo if you want to disconnect, rest, recharge, reconnect, and ground yourself in a very comfortable and elegant setting, surrounded by stunning Portuguese natural and rural landscapes.

Quinta Marugo is a lovely retreat place. I went there to experience it as I was looking for a place to host my own retreat. I was extremely well received and taken care by MaryAnn and Hugo, the lovely owners. Every detail has been extremely well thought out by the two of them. The food, the very comfortable beds and linens, the lovely pagoda, the pool, all of it invite the guests to relax and enjoy themselves. The place itself is peaceful and gorgeous. The number of rooms was the decided factor not to host the retreat there at this time - the number of rooms is insufficient - and I will definitely come back with my husband for a nice private retreat of our own!
