My wife and I recently visited the property with the intention of exploring the museum and taking photos of the beautiful grounds. Upon arrival, the museum attendants were very welcoming. They shared the fascinating history of the quinta and assured us that taking photos around the property would not be an issue.
However, our experience changed shortly afterward when another staff member approached us in an upset manner, insisting that we stop taking photos. He informed us that there was a fee for using a professional camera and stated that we could only take photos with an iPhone unless we paid him per photo. This was surprising and confusing, especially since the first attendants had told us there were no restrictions.
To clarify, we asked additional employees—one in the wine cellar below the property and another in the perfume area—who both confirmed that taking photos was fine. But again, the same worker confronted us in an angry tone and demanded payment for the camera use. When we returned to the museum to speak with the original attendants, they then told us that there was in fact a fee for photos taken outside.
This inconsistency left us disappointed. The lack of clear communication among staff created an uncomfortable situation and ultimately affected our visit. For a place as beautiful as this, I believe it’s essential for management to establish clear, visible rules regarding photography and ensure all employees communicate the same information to guests. Proper signage and staff training would prevent misunderstandings and help maintain a positive experience for visitors.
We truly enjoyed the beginning of our visit and appreciate the history of the property, but unfortunately the conflicting information and the manner in which we were approached left a negative impression. I hope management takes this feedback into account so future guests can enjoy the full beauty of the property without confusion.
