We had a three day stay. The room was huge with a large terrace overlooking the sea. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Spa was excellent and the gym pretty well equipped. The gardens are stunning set this hotel apart from others. Breakfast was excellent and we tried two of the hotel restaurants in the evening. The service was super and the food perfectly ok. The meal we had in a local restaurant was also pretty average and we got the impression that was par for the course maybe in Madeira. The island is stunning, the levada walks were breathtaking and it has a feeling of being in a time warp to 30or 40 years ago which is not a bad thing in many ways.

I booked Quinta Splendida after reading all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, and we were not disappointed. This is a special resort, set in beautiful gardens with the most amazing spa setting. |The staff are all attentive and so friendly. The breakfasts are amazing, so much fresh fruit, vegetables and variety (I'm vegetarian). |We ate in the evening twice and chose the al la cart menu, and were not disappointed. ||The apartments look a little dated but when you read the history of this place, you realise it's this way for a good reason. There is no AC, and this might be a necessity for some, and perhaps in the peak summer months, it might just get too hot indoors. For us in September, it was perfect. ||The gardens are amazing, so relaxing and the view of the ocean takes your breath away. |The only gripe (if I can call it that), is the issue of parasols around the pool area. I'm unsure why this has not been addressed by management. There was very limited parasols that actually worked so for others like me who had none, it was unbearable to sit poolside during the daytime when the sun is at its peak. What I found quite sad, was that some other holiday makers actually took 'their' parasol back to their apartment ready for when they used it next....selfish I think.|Fortunately we were out for a few days, so didn't have the time to stay poolside. But for others who just wanted to chill by the pool, I'm sure it was not comfortable. |Apart from this, everything else was perfect and I would still recommend this place to others. |Our visit to Funchal was good (cable cars etc.), but we couldn't wait to get back to the resort 😊

My wife and I had a great week and both of us would strongly recommend. All staff were friendly and helpful without exception. We also had the Spa Suite package and like the previous post, we too didn't initially understand all of the benefits. However the a la carte arrangements were explained to us when dining in the Galeria restaurant on the second day. Perhaps the reception could issue a full written guide when guests check in. The indoor pool in the Spa was slightly disappointing as the water was very cold - almost as cold as the outdoor pool. Gardens and views are superb. We didn't take any excursions but did spend a day in Funchal using the service bus which stops almost directly outside the hotel (2.6 euros per person each way). Great if slightly scary bus ride up and down the cliff roads around Funchal! We will definitely return - perhaps in October next time as November was windy.

Hotel or botanical garden? Both! We spent a week in this truly unique hotel in Canico. Room was ok and big - it is whole apartment with kitchen and living room. There were also sunbeds in front of room. The staff was kind and helpful. Food in "Galeria" and "La Perla" restaurants was very good. And what's better to do after dinner than evening walk through illuminated botanical garden? Indoor and outdoor pools were ok - we enjoyed both.

We stayed in the SPA Suite Sea View for 7 nights. Good things first. Everything was clean, the stuff friendly, the buffet yummy and the garden beautiful. The massage I‘ve had was really great too. Now to the unfortunate part. At Checkin we got a quick introduction of the hotel and spa facilities. Since we did not understand what was included as a Suite bonus we went to the reception the following day and asked. The lady friendly told us that we had the half board, so specials when it comes to restaurants, a bathrobe + slides and free access to the spa. On our last breakfast a friendly restaurant crew member made us aware of our free option of à la carte dishes such as stuff made special Cappuccino etc. So it turned out that we in fact had special conditions when it came to our meals, which we payed for but didn’t use because we were not informed correctly. At Checkout the we were asked if everything was ok, so we told the lady about our experience. She just responded with „oh, so sorry to hear that…“. We didn’t get a voucher, neither a discount for our potential next stay and left the hotel disappointed. Overall we still had a great stay and enjoyed the beautiful sea view. We would have come back for sure, if the last encounter would have made us feel so fooled.

We have just returned from a lovely week staying at the Quinta Splendida.|On arrival we received a very nice welcome from reception and shown to our room which was a side view room right next to the pool. The room had a lovely garden outside with sun beds and overlooked the main garden. Standing outside you could also see the sea which was a great bonus.|The gardens are incredible and beautifully maintained. They even grow their own salads.|The room was spacious and clean with plenty of storage and the kitchenette came in really handy.|Excellent shower in the bathroom which is always very important to us.|The rooms were turned down every day and we really couldn’t fault the service.|Breakfast was really good, with a really large selection of hot and cold food. The serving staff were polite and nice to talk to. We ate on the terrace most days as the weather was beautiful. |The 155 bus stops just along from the hotel and takes you into Funchal in about 20-30 minutes.|There is a decent supermarket and a great bakery just along from the hotel.|We really couldn’t fault the hotel and as for Madeira itself, it’s stunning.

I spent 7 nights at this hotel as a solo traveller. The hotel is ranked 4* however, in my opinion this lacks the normal quality expected for 4*’s. My room 1067 was well appointed just outside the pool but inside was dreadful. It’s very old and tired with a moldy smell to it. No AC ( I don’t think there is any in the hotel) a 1980’s electric fan and plug in heater. Low quality tubes of shower gel in the bathroom. The bar area was nice, good service but some nights I was on my own. Busier when there was entertainment on. The spa was good and the breakfast great to set you on your day. Dinner expensive and not much around for choice in the town. A lot older clientele. A good public bus service to Funchal.

Second time we have stayed here once about 18yrs ago. Lovely place. At the right time of year the gardens are beautifully in flower. Very welcoming hotel the service is great, no complaints. The Buffet food has a very wide variety. About 20mins from Funchal by public bus, cheap transport even better if you get a pass. Enjoyed our stay would recommend for a relaxing quite hotel with a lovely pool.
