A Review of the Quintessence Hotel, Anguilla

"Built stone by stone over nearly a decade and opened in 2018 by owner Geoffrey Fieger, this five-star Long Bay retreat is a grand, tropical mansion inspired by a historic Anguilla landmark. The property blends luxury hospitality with a museum-like atmosphere: it houses the world’s largest collection of Haitian art outside Haiti (curated by the owner), a Q Art Gallery with high-value works by artists such as Henri Robert Bresil and Jasmin Joseph, and rooms individually decorated and named for Haitian artists. The main house has nine distinct suites (including a 1,494 sq ft penthouse with panoramic ocean views, a large terrace, and marble bath) plus three additional Quinn Suites nearby, all featuring four-poster king beds with Hästens mattresses, Frette linens, 24/7 butler service, and unobstructed views of Long Bay Beach. On-site highlights include a Ralph Lauren–furnished Polo Lounge, a secluded meeting room lined with first-edition books, an infinity pool and jacuzzi overlooking the Caribbean, semi-private beach access with food service, a full spa, fitness center and yoga sessions, a boutique, and a 6,000-label wine cellar. Dining options range from French-Caribbean fine dining led by an acclaimed executive chef to casual beachfront fare, and booking perks often include arrival upgrades (subject to availability), daily breakfast, a food & beverage credit, early check-in/late-check-out (subject to availability), and complimentary Wi‑Fi. Nearby attractions include Shoal Bay, Meads Bay, and excursions to nearby cays such as Sandy Island."

If you desire peace, beauty, superb accommodations and friendly staff, this is the place for you. You feel like you are the only patrons at a place with fabulous beach (a short walk or golf cart ride down a hill on property) in a perfectly kept resort. I used the spa services (great) small and perfectly adequate fitness center, beach, pool and jacuzzi with no complaints. I read previous reviews and observed the following: there is significant staff, they simply do not hover. And breakfast offers many choices and is far beyond a mere continental breakfast. I had everything from crepe to omelette to oatmeal, always with sides and fruit. Julian’s was so good we ate there nearly every night of seven. We ventured to Sunset Lounge for drinks (Four Seasons) which was noisy and hectic, and one dinner at Sharky’s which was worth going to, but Julian’s is also top tier. We did not need a car (taxis were fine and the drivers awesome), but bring enough cash for taxis and incidentals. Finally, this is not a shopping haven, it is a relaxation haven. Perfect.

My husband and I stayed here the last week of April. It was amazing. The lobby is beautiful and the art is unique, rooms are beautiful. The food was fresh and well prepared. But the staff are really the best thing here. So kind, professional, and helpful. We were given great suggestions each day if we wanted to leave and explore. The attention to detail is incredible.

So first, let me start by saying I had very high expectations of this hotel. From the absolutely amazing reviews I had read, to the pictures and description of the property on the website I was truly expecting a full service luxury property that also combined intimacy and a small boutique feel. ||The hotel and the grounds are very very pretty, and the rooms were very spacious and lovely. There were, however, some issues in that the furniture itself wasn’t that comfortable in the room and we didn’t really like the furniture that was out on our balcony because there were no chase lounges , just a table with some uncomfortable wicker chairs. We found that a lot of the furniture around the property was the same. The chairs in the restaurant were wicker as well as in the bar with no cushions and the same was true for the chairs at the pool, so we found them a little uncomfortable. This was surprising, considering the caliber of the hotel. The service was good and efficient, but I wouldn’t say I felt overly pampered. There was supposed to be a “Butler“ but this was just a guy who was sort of a jack of all trades and did lots of things around the hotel from Bell service to Providing set up at the pool or beach. There was no constant drink or meal service at the pool, and the restaurant down on the beach while good, was small and more like a beach bar. We also found that the lighting in our room was inadequate, especially in our bathroom. However, when we said something, they were very quick to come in and put in brighter bulbs for us, which was great. Simone was particularly great and helping us to arrange meals and excursions while we were on the island and we absolutely loved her. I think part of the problem is that the hotel is very small with only nine rooms. We also had a couple days of rain so there wasn’t a lot to do. There were a couple of occasions when we went out to the bar and there were no servers or bartender and they had to go and find one, again a consequence of being so small I think. Dinner at Julian’s was excellent and I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was a little inefficient, and service was slow. The other thing that was a little offputting in such a high-end hotel was the fact that there was no air conditioning in the public spaces anywhere not even the lobby area. With the rain and heat it was pretty uncomfortable when you walked around. ||I think for us, we were expecting more proactive and anticipatory service, and it seems like the entire week we had to ask for many things that should have been readily available in a hotel like this. |Having said this, we did have a nice time, but I think if we go back to Anguilla we may stay at Cap Juluca or the Four Seasons next time.

This is a beautiful, very small boutique hotel in Anguilla. The staff here are amazing and take care of your every need - especially the young ladies at the concierge desk!! No question is too small for them to investigate and help you with. They are all just very lovely people. We stayed in Long Bay - the budget room lol - but, it was so beautifully turned out. And the bed and the linens are so incredibly comfortable. The pool is beautiful, the restaurant is great (both Julian's and Coral the beach restaurant) and the little beach you have access to is like a private beach - white powdery sand and turquoise water. We walked to Mead's bay every morning for our walk - it's just a 10 minute walk (if that) away up and around the point. Great for getting a workout - the sand is deep and it's a lovely swimming beach. Lots of good restaurants on Mead's Bay as well.||The only comment for room for improvement I would say is that there should be some service around the pool in the afternoons. I know you can have service at Coral, but at least some service of drinks around the pool would be nice. And one other thing - I don't think I should have been charged $20 for ordering a cappucino one afternoon when you get them for free at breakfast. Again - just little things, but things to improve upon. Otherwise, I loved my stay and I would happily stay here again when visiting Anguilla!

For my wife's birthday, I asked her to close her eyes and describe her dream experience. She said, “I want to lie on a beautiful beach, watching crystal blue waves roll in over white sand. I want a cocktail in my hand, and I want it to be just us—no one else.” It felt like a tall order—but then we found Quintessence.||This place delivered everything she imagined: a stunning beach, a serene pool, delicious cocktails, and warm, thoughtful hospitality. The scenery is unreal, and the people are some of the kindest I’ve met. Quintessence is a true hidden gem.||We’re not resort people. When we travel, we’re looking to escape—not be hovered over or surrounded by crowds. So if you’re after pool games, buffet lines, foam parties, screaming kids, or constant check-ins, Q isn’t for you. But if you want peace, beauty, and space to breathe, this place is magic.||The room was beautifully designed and fully equipped, and every request was met with care and efficiency. We explored other resorts and beaches, but each time, we couldn’t wait to return to what felt like our own little slice of private heaven.||I joked with the staff that I wasn’t going to tell anyone about this place so I could keep it all to myself—but here I am. Just book it. You won’t regret it.

Pros: The property is beautiful, and there are so few people you often have the infinity pool completely to yourselves. The beach is also stunning and with basically no one else there.||Cons: Since this is a boutique hotel with less guests, there is less coverage from staff. Everyone was very nice but if you want to get food or a drink it can take quite a while and you have to be proactive about it, and there are limited hours for lunch and food options. The gym and amenities are also quite small as you would expect for a boutique hotel like this. The lack of other guests also left this feeling a little more dead than was ideal for us. ||If you truly want privacy and absolutely no one around this can be a good option for you. Just be aware it comes with some service gaps. The island itself has many beautiful beaches and great restaurants, but during the day if you want to spend time at the resort I would recommend a slightly larger one unless you really value the privacy.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!|From check-in orientation until check-out, total disaster!|Rooms 100% misrepresented. (website shows king size bed but in reality ALL the beds are queen size) disappointing.|Breakfast menu contains of 3 options EVERY DAY, quite boring and too simple.|Property is highly mismanaged. No one cares!!! ZERO EFFORT from staff members on making guests feel welcomed or valued.|Definitely need to lower the prices of the rooms and hire MORE staff, to tend to their guests as there are ONLY 12 "villas" on property.|We were definitely disappointed and would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to feel special and catered to. No such service here EVEN when paying over $1,000 a night plus tax& resort fees!|Some areas around the property smell of sewage. Gross!|Before staying here, we stayed at Aurora, for the same price a night we had a personal butler that tended to our every need, one text message away. We thought for the same value we could stay here and have the same experience but definitely NOT!!|SAVE YOUR $$$. GO ELSEWHERE!!!|Save your money and go elsewhere!

Overall, my stay was amazing. The property is stunning, and the grounds are well-maintained. They have mastered the art of privacy; however, the staff has poor communication, and the manager was dishonest. I booked my trip through a third-party travel service, but the Q Hotel repeatedly disregarded the agency's policies. They contacted me several times before my trip demanding a deposit although the booking says otherwise and in writing. The manager argued that their policy is different as if it was my fault. I called to inquire about the additional fees prior to my arrival since the fine print indicates that extra charges would apply. The manager gave misinformation about the fees. As a heads-up, the fees can be upwards of $400 due to the GST tax and service charges. Housekeeping did not respect the "privacy" sign and knocked on my door three times just to offer a tiny cookie and water. The suites do not come equipped with a refrigerator. I did not witness very many guests eating lunch or dinner on the property but that's likely due to the menu; it's boring. I paid $100 for room decor that should have lasted for the duration of my trip; it was very disappointing that it was thrown away in less than 24hrs of my arrival by housekeeping. I do not recommend this service without providing clear instructions to the housekeeping staff and management. Although, you would like to assume that any logical person would not dispose of decorations, that unfortunately is not the case here. I was charged $30 just to inflate the balloons with helium and all of them deflated in less than 24 hours. While the grounds and the staff were lovely, management was not very professional, and was combative when I raised my concerns. I recommend exploring the island for additional lodging options and accommodations.
