R J Riches

My visit here was friendly and interesting. First, the coffee was very good, noticeably better (and cheaper) than Perkins - smooth yet robust. The booths looked like a throwback from the saloon era - but painted over to repurpose them, with the seat and back pads removed so patrons sit on hard wood. That said, the booths were not uncomfortable. I had our server - Katie - order for me, and she returned a few minutes later with a huge plate sized blueberry pancake. I love pancakes, and thought this was perfect. Then she placed a huge plate next to me containing 2 thick sliced bacon strips, 2 sausages, and a huge serving of cheese encrusted hash browns smothered in fried onions. I ate more than half the pancake and took everything else home - I'm and old man, and had just been served my full daily allotment of calories in one meal. This is by no means a complaint - Katie said she served me "The Challenge" - the first item on the menu - aptly named. The pancake was slightly mushy inside, but the blueberries were good and fresh. The reheated at home hashbrowns received two thumbs up from my wife, and the sausages and bacon were good. My friend ordered the Gyro Omelette, which he said was very good. The restroom could have been a little cleaner, but wasn't at all offensive. This place is on my recommended list.

This is a restaurant from the past. Good old fashion family dinner. The food is great, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. We had wonderful service as well, something that is rare in today's world. Will definitely be back. While I didn't try any Greek food this trip, they have some on the menu which looks interesting. Don't judge thus restaurant by the interior, simple and clean. It the food and service that will bring me back.

We had the pleasure of dining here this morning for the first time and let me just say this is the new go-to spot of me. We had an amazing back and forth with our waitress Katie, who had some very thoughtful and sincere suggestions for what to have. Her advice was on-point because everything was delicious, came out quick, and exceeded expectations. The value is amazing here as well, everything in this photo was about 60 bucks. The service we received was the best I have experienced in ages and we will absolutely be back many more times and recommend dining here to anyone in the area.

One of the Best Breakfast places I've EVER been to. Straight delicious- huge portions, and amazing flavor. Go out of your way to come eat here! Chorizo Benedict or Pork Belly Skillet are my Go-Tos!

We ordered the chocolate chip pancake. Lots of chips and fluffy. The coffee had a werid bitter taste even with tons of sugar and creamer. The country fried steak with eggs over easy covered in a sausage grave served with extra crispy harsh browns. The clear star of the show. The photo only shows my plate I spilt it with my husband: the plates are huge plenty for two people from one plate. We also order the gyro omelette. It was huge. It was good, sorry no photo to add.

Oh my goodness, awesome food, the staff is obviously happy and friendly, the food was awesome, seevice was the best, very short wait for food. I had the Hindenburg sandwich, my wife had the Gyro.

My friend really hyped up this place on the drive over. He's a real foodie. He did not over sell the food. Incredible! Best breakfast I've ever had at a restaurant! It's not just about the portion size but quality ingredients, great cuts of vegetables and meat, not cooked with oils. Crispy, tasty, deliciously amazing!

WOW what a SPECTACULAR lunch! Katie is the best server ever! Katie made me the BEST cherry flavored Diet Coke I've ever had. And Katie never let my drink stay empty. Katie was fun to talk to we all enjoyed our lunch. It is amazing the food quality and quantity, just look closely at the photos. The BLT was the same size Paul Bunyan used to get. I ordered the sirloin tip on noodles, absolutely the the most tender I've ever had. But the most amazing was the biggest order I've ever seen, and enough for leftovers. We can't wait to return to see Katie again soon.

I was in the mood for breakfast on a rainy Saturday morning. Sis and I decided to visit RJ Riches and it was our first visit. I've heard so many good things about them and their HUGE portion sides. I know where the restaurant is but I've never seen more than 2 or 3 cars in the parking lot on a weekday. Silly Julie... the lot was packed today. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the interior is full of modern character. It's been upgraded with white washed walls, bright blue painted brick, black iron light fixtures with clear glass shades, luxury vinyl plank flooring) but there are remnants of its age (kitchen flooring is orange square/rectangle tile like 1980s McDonald's, restroom door is 1980s dark oak)... which I love. I loved the varnished wooden plank tables. The wooden seat booths were a little hard to get comfortable on but I liked that they were deep seats, hit me at the back on my knees. But there isn't much space for feet. Sis and I kept kicking/ stepping on each other the entire time. Now let's talk food. Knowing the portions are huge, we decided to share a pancake and omelet. And we still couldn't finish it all. The buttermilk pancake was hot the first couple of bites but did cool off quickly. But that's no different than at Perkins or home. The omelet was packed full of big pieces of cubed ham, crunchy hashbrowns and grilled diced onion and peppers. It's a 2 egg omelet but how do they get it so thin to wrap around everything. It's served with cheese sauce which I asked for it to be on the side. I wanted some chips for that creamy cheese sauce. Yum! Sis wanted sausage links too, so she upgraded the pancake for an extra $3. If you just ordered links (or patties, bacon) a la carte, they would be $6. Service was fast and friendly. And the bill was handled quickly when it was time to go, under 5 mins. The one thing I hate is waiting to get the waitresses attention for the bill and then waiting another 20 mins to run my credit card. I don't have a good reason why it took my 20 years to try this place out. But we'll be back again. The lunch menu looks like something we want to check out too.

Haven't been here in years and truly did miss it. We now brought our toddler who thought that the huge pancake was absolutely amazing. I also got an omelette which may have been even bigger?! Besides it being so big, it actually taste delicious. You have to get the pancakes, it's a must! It's a small place, so expect to be waiting a little bit, especially on a weekend, but it's worth it

I wish RJs would deliver !!! The food is awesome. I'm just not in a position to drive there all the time

It was my first time here. The seating benches weren't that comfortable due to no cushioning. The menu is rather large. It can be overwhelming. They are open til 3! I ordered the spicy sausage inlet. The portions are huge. The toast was a bit burnt. The service was good. Waiter was attentive.

Not for us. This place is packed and there's alot of good reviews but it just wasn't for us. The portions are huge, overwhelming actually. Everything just had a wierd flavor. We had the ham steak special. The ham was thick and unappetizing. The biscuits and gravy with an added side of hashbrowns which were an additional $5.29. The gravy had a little spice to it and some kind of herb. We also had the ham and cheese skillet. The cheese sauce on the top was not good. It had sliced deli ham in it which was strange. The most unappetizing thing was the hashbrowns. I believe it's the oil their cooked in. It honestly tastes like something you would get from a Chinese restaurant. They sucked. This place is for quantity not quality.

Good sized parking lot. We went on a Sunday around noon and it was packed. There was a line out the door so we sat at the bar where there was no waiting. The staff was super busy, but they moved fast and you got your food pretty quickly, and they were fairly friendly.. I had the blueberry pancake with chunky blueberry sauce on top. It was HUGE, I couldn't even eat half of it, but it was really good. My husband had the country fried steak and said it was really good as well. Sorry, no pictures, we were hungry and dove right in. Ambiance was fast moving diner, nothing fancy, just good food. I had a cappuccino which was just a gas station style cappuccino, but that is what I was expecting. We could see the kitchen from where we sat so we saw some of the other food coming out. They have omelettes which were also huge. It would have been about 4 meals for me. Another note, the serving staff worked together and helped each other a lot. It was nice to see.

Super great food. Can't get enough of the gyros. Love to take home leftovers as they are delicious warmed up as well. Large portions are always served with smiles and great attitudes. Attention to detail is always apparent. I'd recommend R J Riches to everyone who loves big helpings, fantastic flavors and a lot of leftovers to enjoy at home.

Great place for breakfast and nice staff big portions good price only open till three in the afternoon every day. Enjoy.

I've been going to R J Riches for years and I've never had a bad meal. It's nothing fancy but they serve up quality food with large portions. Service is always fast and friendly and it's conveniently located right of 35W.

Delicious breakfast - the portions are huge! Waitress was quick and attentive. Come here if you're hungry and you will be satisfied.

We went to RJs for lunch today. I ordered the RJ skillet and my wife got the cheddar cheese skillet. Both were very good and large filling portions. We like this place we've always have good service and the food is always good. If you havent tried RJ's you should stop by.

Stopped by for a later lunch. It was not too busy which was great. I would suggest coming here during their slower hours because they do get very busy. I had my usual cheddar cheese skillet and my husband had the Riches skillet. Every thing was good. I had leftovers. Their portions are large. If you haven't tried this place you are missing some good food.

We went on a Saturday morning. The wait to be seated was only about 10 mins. The staff and service were great. The ambiance was good but the booth seats were hard as a rock. The food came pretty quickly after ordering, considering how busy they were. Everything tasted really good.

I tried the Gyro Omelette, which was packed full of meat and vegetables. My only caveat is to be aware of the amount of tomatoes they add - MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR LESS! They went a little overboard but after going back a couple of more times it hit just right. Hashbrowns were a bit salty and greasy. Overall, their breakfast was definitely above average flavor wise (surprising given the quantity)! I would strongly recommend their bakers bread, which is about an extra dollar surcharge. Service was top notch! They're all really kind and were constantly refilling my water. I've never had an issue with service here and the waitresses are all welcoming. RJs is always a must go!

I love this place I've been eating here ever since I was a little kid I love the pancakes but my beloved r.j riches. Betrayed me. I have been a loyal customer and you don't even care you guys are closed on Mondays and my birthday tends to fall on Monday march 31 please open it for only that day or else I will sue for treating customers badly thanks for listening my beloveded r.js riches. The portions are huge but the prices aren't cheap. The food is greasy but the flavor is descent. They have a stained used 2 sided paper menu that they give you to order from (unsure how this is more hygienic than just a regular menu?). The place definitely needs a good deep cleaning (don't look up to the ceiling or the fan blades). The decor is outdated but that I do not mind as this place has been around for a lot of years. The bathrooms have been remodeled but aren't very clean. The booth seat had a tear as it is old but I would have preferred to look at duct tape. I was here before covid & it was a much better experience. Go in with low expectations & you will be happy.

10 oz steak was horrible don't get it. The 8 oz steak was fine I don't know why the 10 oz steak was so bad. Everything else was amazing. Best hot chocolate I have ever had. Outstanding customer service too.

R J Ritchie's is serious about breakfast! Multiple options, fresh ingredients, creative hearty creations. Come hungry or bring a friend, the portions are big enough to feed a family! Friendly diner vibe, I look forward to coming back next time I'm in the area. One star ding on the coffee but in all fairness I'm a coffee snob. Well done R J Ritchie's!

We got together for brunch on a Sunday around noon, and I was not sure what to expect when we pulled into this place that came highly recommended by a member of our party. As we parked, we had a lady come up to us and ask us for a diaper. I gladly gave the diaper to her, and we proceeded into the restaurant. Walking in as a party of five, I was surprised to see how packed it was! There were at least three other large parties waiting as well, and we all stood shoulder to shoulder in the Front of House waiting to be seated. Initially, I was worried that the wait time would be ridiculous- but the turnover for tables was quicker than expected. We didn't wait longer than 10-15 minutes, with one family seated ahead of us. Our service was awesome. We were greeted right away; she took our drink order and did a great job at giving us time to look through the menu and come to a final decision. With 2 kids, 1 baby and 2 adults, we needed a little time to settle in! My 16-month-old son received so much love from the staff here. He was overwhelmed with joy due to the number of smiles, greetings and compliments they were giving him. He was enjoying their attention! Our table order included, one chocolate chip pancake, one eggs benedict with hashbrowns and veggies, one kids breakfast that had sausage, eggs and toast and two (I can't remember the name) of the dish that had scrambled eggs, sausage over onions, peppers and breakfast potatoes. The portions are very large! One pancake is the size of a large plate! You can order one dish for two people and be satisfied. We all went home with leftovers, as it was filling and delicious. This is one of my new favorite places in Minnesota! When we left, the lady that asked us for the diaper when we first arrived came up and tried to give us a couple dollars, but we assured her it was no problem and we proceeded to enter our vehicle. I mentioned that part, because a) I want to share the full experience and b) the family feel of this restaurant extends passed the walls, and overflows through the parking lot! I've never been asked for a diaper before, and I was so happy that I was able to be there for her when she was in need. I love the energy in this restaurant! Everyone had great energy, from the staff to the patrons, and I am excited to go back!

If you want large portions for the price of average portions plus if you pay in cash you get an added discount, then this is the place for you! Nothing fancy. Just home cooking done right. Everything tasted great except we weren't a huge fan of the corned beef hash but we're definitely coming back again to try the other menu items.

Good service, huge portions and a fresh look! We have been going here for years and it never disappoints. I love the Gyro Breakfast and often have leftovers. This place was a little dingy in the past but it looks like they recently added a new coat of paint.

My notes for this one: "gut-busting portions super-friendly staff" That pretty much sums it up. This is diner food, it ain't fancy. But you get a LOT of it. Some of the sides here would be a full meal at other breakfast spots! And the servers are very nice and very earnest...because this is MinnesOEta!

I just received a note from Yelp about the best pancake places in the twin cities. Wish I would have done a review on this place before as they ABSOLUTELY hands down have the most delicious pancakes on the face of this earth. They are enormous and each bite can bring on a moan of delight. I heard a rumor that they put cake mix in their batter, whether that's true or not doesn't matter what matters is if you have never tried one from R J Riches please do and message me your thoughts!! THEY ARE DREAM WORTHY!!

Came in for a family brunch and the staff were really great about accommodating our large group of 7 adults and three children! Fairly extensive menu with lots of choices to allow for everyone to be able to find something they'll enjoy. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette with some French toast -- the French toast was incredibly dry and the ham and cheese was pretty average. I bit greasier than I had wanted but I had a chance to try some of my sister in laws chocolate chip pancake that was the size of TEXAS! And it was soo so good, huge! But still managed to be fluffy! I would definitely try that if we came back again!

We had breakfast, made it in time before a large rush. Delicious food and amazing service. Very generous portions. Bathrooms right next to the waiting area so it was completely blocked.

There are two things you need to know about R J Riches: It's weirdly unorganized and they make up for it by serving large portions of really great food. We walked in with a group of five for a super delayed Christmas celebration last week. The lobby was pretty crowded and we had to ask three times if they needed to take our name down before they gave us a sheet of paper and instructed us to write our name and how many we had. The crew seemed to be mostly teenagers so I'm wondering if they were short staffed. It was a little strange overall, but luckily the lobby cleared quickly and we were directed to a booth within the next 10 minutes. I liked the environment. It had a country diner vibe and it was busy without being overwhelming. There was a light fog of smoke covering the dining area that was a little tough on the eyes, but I think this could've been a fluke and I thought it complimented the ambiance. It's tough to describe. Our server was sweet. Although our food took a little while (which is fair due to peak hours) we were shocked at the portions and the taste when we got it! You might have a bit of a rough time getting in and settled, but if you can get past that it is so worth it. I would definitely come here again for the food (I'm hoping they do orders to go!) P.S. Try the potatoes.

If you are looking for a greasy spoon diner with giant option sizes, this is the place for you. It's a bit of a dive but hey, a long line indicates good food in my opinion. A friend and I stopped in for breakfast and were surprised to see the line out the door. It was 10 am on a Saturday! it was about a 20-30 minute wait for a table for two. The kitchen was crazy busy and the wait staff was flying around hauling large overflowing plates of food to hungry customers. As soon as a table was empty, the staff was immediately clearing and wiping down the table for the next customers. The decor is circa 1970's and that might be a bit more modern than it really is. We were seated in a booth near the front by the diner counter. The waitress was immediately at our table asking for our drink order and to throw us a menu. It was obvious that the staff were accustomed to the fast paced environment. Looking at the menu, it was hard to decide what to get. Many things to choose from like omelettes, traditional breakfasts of eggs, meat and toast, corned beef hash, even regular menu items like roasted chicken, burgers and chicken sandwiches. I settled on the southwest omelette with added jalapeños. My friend ordered the Rich's omelette. The food arrived about ten minutes later. My friend didn't like the processed cheese wiz on top but otherwise she said it tasted good. My southwest omelette was good. It was filled with about 1/2 cup of jalapeños, chopped onions and green peppers, cheese, and shredded hash browns. I ate about a quarter of it and took the rest home. We might come back in the future to try out their lunch and dinner menus. The only issues we had with the place was that the silverware was dirty and the wait was long.

We did not like the restaurant in general. The breakfast items was just ordinary with huge portions. However the environment was not so great. You will also see some interesting wordings near the kitchen area to tell the staff not to complain?? The staff served us was friendly but the environment is just not cutting it. We have not been back since.

Lots of diner food and good service! It's a family restaurant that has been in the area for awhile! They have installed partitions between the tables for Covid safety-so it feels even more cozy now (the dining bar is still untouched). We came for the more-than-you-should-eat pancakes. Now they offer "senior" pancakes, but they were still more than I could eat!

Completely worth the wait !!! Hidden gem here in mounds view , a friend and I were looking for new breakfast places for our Saturday brunch. Very casual crowded but definitely worth the wait . I ordered the omelette and toast , he ordered a pancake the size of my head and a side of sausage . We were both very pleased by the looks and taste of it! I had the 5 item omelette all the ingredients were fresh and melted in my mouth . Check out the photos !

They just completed a refresh of the place. New furniture, flooring, fixtures, and paint. Looks nicer. Less grime-y. Place is always busy for breakfast on the weekends. We were seated rather quickly, within maybe 5 minutes. Food still in large portions. I had the eggs Benedict, something on the Benedict was cold but I didn't say anything because they were very busy and took long enough to get our food in the first place. Everyone else's food came out hot. Daughter got the cheese skillet and didn't like the fake orange cheese on top but liked the rest. Huge pancake always yummy. Can't go wrong with steak and eggs. Prices have gone up on almost everything which is reasonable and understandable considering, the refresh, inflation, the state of the economy.... We will keep this as one of our breakfast spots. Never had anything else here so cannot comment on that. They're open Tues-Sun 8-3.

I got takeout. Wait time was 15 mins, I went at 8:30AM on a Saturday. The price is the best for the portions you get for sure. Beware the pancake is about the size of a 12 inch pizza. My family of 3 split the riches challenge and we still had some of the pancake and hash browns left over. Sausage is good quality. The only reason I'm taking a star is because I expected the pancake to have more flavor. When arrived to pick up staff were welcoming and friendly.

It's been a few year since I went to RJ Riches, and I still think about those pancakes. We went in the middle of the workday and it wasn't too crowded, but I imagine it's packed on the weekends. The food is not only gigantic, but delicious. My chocolate chip pancake took up an entire plate, was about an inch thick, and is only a memory now, but I hope to return one day and dine again.

LOVE this spot. Literally order an amazing, fully packed omelette and have leftovers for the week lol! The staff are great, quick service, and the best food for reasonable price for the large portion!

This is the WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!!! This is the first time ever in my life where I waited over an hour for a cup of soup. The most ridiculous thing ever. There were tables that got sat after us and got their food and finished and started paying already. Our server NEVER came to check in on us if we needed anything or to let us know how much longer the food would take. It was when I finally went to the front and told the hostess the waitress then said " Its coming right now" like WHERE TF was it when all those other people after us got theirs before us and already started leaving!? THERE WAS ONLY 2 OF US we only ordered 3 THINGS!!!! NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN and I NEVER EVER LEAVE BAD REVIEWS OR HAVE I EVER HAD TO LEAVE A RESTAURANT DUE TO BAD SERVICE BUT THIS WAS A FIRST EVER.

Riches' Challenge is one monster of a breakfast. It is served with a pancake bigger than the plate, and it's very thick. I initially thought that the pancake would be thick and chewy, because of how dense it was. However, to my surprise, it was soft and fluffy inside. It also comes with your side of potatoes, eggs, and meat. I chose hash browns, fried eggs, and bacon. All huge portions of these items as well! I definitely didn't walk away from the table hungry after devouring this meal. I think it was priced at $11, which is a steal! This could easily be split between 2+ people, depending on how hungry they are. Great place, great food, and great employees!

Another great pick by my friend who picked this place for our tour of breakfast places to try around the twin cities. I used to work by this place and a lot of the people would order from this place, but I never tried it until now. Wow! Amazing breakfast- We both had the pancake feast and we both knew we couldn't eat it all, but we wanted to try the famous ginormous pancakes. They didn't disappoint. We probably could have shared. My friend ordered the apple cinnamon and I tried the strawberry. Besides the Uncle Buck size pancake, it came with like a half a pound of bacon and really good scrambled eggs. Delicious! Our server was lovely and really sweet. Décor is very throwback but it works and I wasn't there for the ambiance. I was there to get busy for breakfast and catch up with my friend. Hidden gem of the breakfast places. Pretty big menu! Will be back!

We've had breakfast twice here recently. I've enjoyed the breakfast hash and the bisquits and gravy. Others liked the country-fried steak and pancakes. The atmosphere is friendly and cheerful. I'll keep coming back!

When we drove by the parking lot was full. I thought that this place must be pretty good. Meh. The staff was friendly and accommodating. It is a greasy spoon kinda restaurant. The booths and light fixtures are still mid century. The carpets are sticky. It is well worn. But still pretty busy. My eggs benedict with "holly sauce" was fair. My hash browns were fair and plentiful. The hot chocolate was something out of a machine, but I added whipped cream to make it fancy. My husband said that the gravy for the chicken fried steak was "interesting." He said it had a kick to it, too. I think our family will continue to explore other breakfast options in the area.

Lots of food is their claim to fame. Big portions. But it's just average food, and you'll pay $15-20 for stuff like eggs, toast, bacon, sausage... you get the picture. The line was excessively long, and once seated, more waiting. Expect to be there no less than an hour, most likely longer. That said, it's just my opinion. It's a super popular place, just not my kind of place.

Give it a five star because of food was excellent but the server he didn't know what eggs over light meant I didn't get my hash browns extra crispy the server never came over once she dropped off the food I didn't get nothing again I wanted to order a glass of milk but I never got it all I got was one little glass of water that's all she came to the table with she never asked how the food was or anything it's you know really bad service then ask how the food was and never never came and refilled my water or nothing I did not leave a tip that's how bad the service was

Moved to the area recently and wanted to go out for breakfast and was recommended this restaurant. I am a sucker for pancakes and these did not disappoint! The price and size of this one pancake, you cant beat. As a bonus, the waitress was super friendly and kind to our party. No complaints!

Food is good and service is good, but the wait was ridiculous and too big of portions/expensive . I'd rather pay less and get less food.

My family and I went to this fine establishment on a Saturday morning. It was a bit crowded and they don't take reservation so we had to wait for about 15 minutes for the other parties to be seated. After we got out table, it took some time before someone realized we hadn't been approached by wait staff. Anyway, the food came out relatively quickly. My eggs Benedict: tantalizing! The cheddar cheese omelette looked like a one way ticket to clogged arteries but it was goey cheesey deliciousness! One pancake can take you out of the game for a few hours. The food definitely made up for the wait!! RECOMMEND

Wow, I think I found one of my new favorite local restaurants! Great food, great prices, awesome service, local business feel and great atmosphere. After hearing and seeing so many photos and great reviews for this place I had to give it a try! I played it safe and got only 1 apple cinnamon pancake! It didn't disappoint! There was atleast a whole if not more then 1 apple in the pancake in real slices so you could tell it was a legit apple and not 'apple'. It didn't disappoint either! It was fluffy with a perfect texture! It was also so thick and big I was impressed when they brought it how the chef managed to flip the sucker! It was one of the best pancakes I've had in a while. When I go back I'd recommend splitting a pancake with a friend, if not more! I only got a single pancakes, but have hear their portions are HUGE so I'd probably split like everything on their menu, but for sure go back and get a pancake!

Hadn't been here for a few years, but craved a pancake with blueberries - it was glorious. Didn't care for the coffee after a few sips, and politely asked it to be removed. Server was a bit belligerent, "It's European style". If sour coffee with plastic creamers is "European", guess they love crap coffee there! But man, what a great and perfect pancake!

The $10 burger was awful when my family ate there last year. It was the worst burger I've ever had and pricey. Fast food burgers are better than these, so save some money. None of my family liked the food, even my mother isn't usually picky. We won't ever be back.

Great prices, huge portions, great family friendly staff and service. Really old fashioned interior and decor but the food is what you go for.

Had my first RJ Riches experience: went in on a Saturday at about 6 pm, was seated very shortly (7 people). It's definitely an old restaurant, you pay at the register, and you feel a little like you're at grandma's house. Portion sizes are HUGE (see pictures). Food is decent, not the greatest ever, but overall pretty good. Biscuits and gravy was under seasoned, gyros weren't any better than most places. The one thing that was impressive was the pancakes (THEY'RE HUGE). I recommend going for pancakes, or portion sizes!
