Intimate Inns That Take Guests Off the Beaten Path and Onto a Bike - AFAR

"An 18th-century palace restored over roughly 15 years by two Indian architects and a workforce of about 750, located on land originally gifted between royal families. The renovation yields cinematic spaces—marble-floored suites that open onto carved jharokha balconies facing the Aravalli hills, manicured gardens scented with frangipani, and a light-filled spa focused on ancient Ayurvedic treatments. For a regal dining experience, guests can book an intimate private dinner inside a Sheesh Mahal adorned with hand-decorated mirrors, echoing the palace’s royal past." - Jennifer Flowers

Raas Devigarh, Near Udaipur, Rajasthan - Explore & Book

"Like the secret gateway to Narnia, and just as magical, this glorious 18th-century fort-palace - imposingly grand with its ramparts of domes, turrets and balconies - reveals an inverse interior that's gleaming, sleekly minimalist and quite breathtaking. You're suddenly encased in a modern and airy hotel, delicately carved from white marble and sweeping sheets of glass to create a clean, uncluttered aura that's a rarity in Rajasthan. Flashes of colour - the walls are hung with dramatic art or sparkle with semi-precious inlaid stones - highlight the elegant suites spread over the 14 floors of RAAS Devigarh. Venture from these superb hideaways for an Ayurvedic massage, a splash in the green marble pool, or supper in the pavilion restaurant, with spectacular views over the Aravalli hills to the tiny Delwara village below. This vista of eternal India from one of the country’s most contemporary constructions is an unbeatable combination for romantics and families alike. Exquisite. Highs The old fort exquisitely fuses traditional and modern style - our jaws hit the ground as we arrivedThe suites are all epic and totally unique; many have mind-blowing views over the surrounding landscapeThere's a huge green marble pool and sublime views from all areas of the fortOutstanding service, plus an excellent restaurant and terrace for sundownersThe marvellous spa offers a range of exclusive pampering treatments Lows Some would say it's too far from Udaipur, but we see it as the perfect base for visiting the increasingly large and polluted cityReturning guests may feel that the hotel has lost some of its former shabby charm in favour of full-on glamourAs this is a bit of a labyrinth, there are many steps to get up and down - but there is a liftThe extras - transfers, food, drinks - are pricey" - Mary-Anne Denison-Pender

RAAS Devigarh (Udaipur, Rajasthan) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Frankly it’s astonishing that there aren’t more hotels like RAAS Devigarh. Not because 18th-century palace hotels are a dime a dozen in India — certainly they aren’t — but because the contrast between the faded majesty of the exterior and the sparkling modernity of the interiors is so striking. Of course a part of the impact depends upon the novelty of looking out from your all-white marble-floored minimalist fantasy of a suite through traditional jharoka windows over the rugged Rajasthani countryside." - Tablet Hotels

RAAS Devigarh | World's best destination spa hotels

"This dazzling 18th-century fort palace in Rajasthan’s soft-focus Aravalli hills is every romantic’s dream of India. The hotel skilfully fuses old-world grace with contemporary minimalism; fairytale turrets, twinkling walls encrusted with gemstones and secret passageways to candlelit courtyards. Add warm jasmine-scented air and it feels more like a movie set than a boutique hotel. That authenticity informs its approach to wellbeing, embracing the country’s ancient ayurvedic health system with subtle modern touches. Curated treatments can be taken in hidden nooks of the palace as well as pretty spa rooms. You can release the pressure valve, breathing in Himalayan salt in its hand carved chamber, try immersive exercise such as sunrise yoga on the rooftop and opt for delicious personalised meal plans or order G&Ts. This is me-tox, not detox, so expect plenty of decadent touches such as the vast pool and spectacular al fresco hot tub that links you to this uniquely uplifting landscape. " - Susan d’Arcy

I have now stayed at RAAS Devigarh twice and it is by far one of the best hotel experiences I have had any where in this world. I would recommend this to anybody and everybody. The hotel is stunning, the staff are brilliant and on point with service. What more could one ask for from a holiday. Very accommodating with meal requests and ofcourse nothing like a private meal at Sheesh Mahal to cap it all of. If you get the opportunity to stay here I would not think twice about it!

What an amazing place, really historic and stunning. I have to mention the bar is the most beautiful bar I have ever ever seen! ||Our suite was huge and stunning- we had a turret with a domed ceiling which I sat with a cup of tea and watched the local village in the morning with their cattle etc, just magical. ||Staff, food, spa all exceptional. We had the last night of our 9 night RAAS hopper here and a specially curated meal - the staff set up a dinner table with candles, rose petals etc and incredible food. It was all stunning. ||||All the RAAS hotels were unique and all fabulous with the most fantastic service. Probably the best hotels I have ever stayed in and that includes Oberoi etc.

Ancient palace, beautifully restored with respect of the old character. Dining area and bars are well designed and cozy. Our room was huge (we got an upgrade from our garden suite due to a wedding party), bed was super comfortable. Shower was in bath, but felled not cramped. Our private terrace was fantastic, overlooking the beautiful mountains and pool. we enjoyed the sunset!|All the staff members were extremely attentive. Their warmth did us really feel at home!|The quality of the kitchen is outstanding. Everything we tasted (Indian or international) was full of flavor and refined. We particularly enjoyed the lovely spinach chaat !|Nice refreshing pool and lovely jacuzzi with beautiful sight of the environment.

We just had an amazing time at the RAAS Devigarh. The Palace is super pretty, the swimming pool is the nicest I have ever seen since it is done with green marble. The suites are incredible. The restoration is done with such a great taste. The food was super tasty and the service was very attentive and friendly. We also had some Yoga in the morning with a very good instructor and we got massages in the Spa that made our stay just unforgettable. Thank you to the whole team!

I had a very unpleasant experience with this hotel. Due to an unexpected medical I had to cancel my stay and informed the hotel with proper documentation. Despite this, they charged the entire amount and refused to offer any refund. This level of rigidity and lack of compassion is extremely disappointing. Customer service should be about understanding real situations, not just enforcing policies blindly. I would strongly advise others to be cautious before booking. Similar booking was made in another compete hotel (Devbagh) for a day earlier and they understood our situation and issued entire refund.

After our stay at the Raas in Jodhpur, we spent one night at this charming hotel not far from Udaipur. We arrived in the afternoon and left the following morning , so our time there was short , but enough to enjoy the captivating atmosphere of the place.|Here , just like in Jodhpur , we received an upgrade : our room was located in the original wing of the palace - spacious, bright , and beautifully maintained down to the smallest detail.|Despite the brief sty, we manage to take a dip in the lovely pool and joined the guided tour through the various fascinating parts of the palace .|Dinner and breakfast on the terrace overlooking the valley below were excellent- both carefully prepared and beautifully presented.|Our only regret is having spent to little time here .|Anna and Francesco from Italy

had a superb stay at RAAS Devigarh. The property itself is absolutely stunning — a perfect blend of heritage charm and modern luxury. The service throughout was first class, with every member of staff attentive and genuinely warm.||Breakfast and all meals were excellent — beautifully presented, consistently high quality, and served with real care.||A real highlight was the private dining experience. If you want to set this up, they’ll charge £65 a head to arrange it. It’s genuinely worth it — an atmospheric setting, impeccable service, and a brilliant way to make a night extra special.||That said, food and alcohol are expensive — particularly the drinks. Some of the alcohol markups are 5–6× what you’d pay in the UK, which does take the shine off slightly.||And finally, the shower pressure could be better — that’s what cost the stay one point from a perfect 10.||Overall, an exceptional stay in a breathtaking location. A special place, just go in with your eyes open about the bar prices.

Wonderful hotel with beautiful all around views of the Aravallis. This is a heritage haveli converted into a hotel and so there are steps everywhere but the staff made sure that my aged mother could navigate the steps (they have stair lifts and wheel chairs, as required). The food was excellent with everything made to order. The hotel staff went out of the way to make our specific requests. The hotel is 45 min drive away from main Udaipur, but worth the trip for the views.
