I wouldn’t call this place a hotel—it's more like a pub with four rooms upstairs. It feels more like a spot for someone who's tired or had too much to drink to crash for a few hours. There’s no proper reception area, which was a bit off-putting for me.
My experience wasn’t great. When I arrived, I was given a large room with three big windows. These windows were extremely old, with noticeable gaps and seams that let in cold air and noise. During a midday nap, I woke up freezing. Despite asking for a heater, I was told there were none available. I had to improvise by isolating the windows myself, using a duvet, pillows, and towels ... to block the drafts. Even the radiator in the room was unreliable—it would go cold at times.
I requested a smaller, warmer room but was told they were fully booked, which wasn’t true. After I left the building and came back later, I found a note asking me to come downstairs for a room swap. They eventually moved me to a smaller room with just one well-sealed window, an extra heater, and standard amenities like an iron. This room was warm and comfortable, and I managed to sleep well.
The breakfast options were basic: toast, jam, and fruit included in the stay, but cooked breakfast costs £10. Check-out time is at 12.
Overall, I wouldn’t rate this as a 4-star hotel. It’s far from it. The larger room might be fine for summer, but it’s unsuitable for winter due to poor insulation. I don’t recommend staying here unless it’s your only option.
Be mindful of the season if you decide to stay here!
