I am sure this venue is great for small events and non-sold out shows, but went for the Caamp concert (which was sold out) and was disappointed with it. Concert and Caamp were amazing, but venue has opportunities for improvement.
#1: Safety - back wall of venue behind stage is just chain link fence covered in fabric. Crowd is below. Felt like a sitting duck.
#2: LINES! Not enough bathrooms, not even with the portapots. Waited 20 mins while second band was playing. Decided not to get food after because the vendors who still had food (yes… some sold out by the time second band finished) had ridiculous long lines. I sacrificed the food so I could wait 25 mins in line for a drink.
#3: Overcrowding. I’m sure the alcoves for the merch and food trucks helped account for the overall capacity numbers, but it shouldn’t. The place was wall to wall people, and it’s a narrow space, so it makes it difficult to try to get from point A to B. Come early, secure a spot to stand, and don’t plan on moving.
#4: Stage lighting. When the lead singer came to front edge of stage after dark, there was no spot light or lighting that could light him up. The roofline of the stage looked like it didn’t support lighting options that far forward.
Overall, I traveled to Asheville for the band, not the venue. I was happy to contribute to the local economy and did love that it was walkable distance to my hotel. (Especially after seeing the gridlock the concert caused in downtown.) I will be back to Asheville, just not sure if I’d return to this venue in the near future. Hopefully they will continue to make investments and improvements.
