"Get Underground at Raccoon Mountain Tennessee has thousands of caves and Chattanooga itself is full of them. One such is Raccoon Mountain, a family-run cavern and campground that was discovered by Leo Lambert, the same man who turned Ruby Falls into the region's most recognized tourist attraction. Raccoon Mountain is significantly more understated, located on the other side of Lookout Mountain, and hosts families in the summer. The caves are over 5 miles long and their Crystal Caverns tour will give you a taste. Their Wild Cave expeditions allow you to get down and dirty, exploring even more of the cave system. You can even arrange to stay underground overnight."

Google
We didn't stay in the campground but we did take the caverns tour. The Cavern tour was Great, the cave guide was Great and knew his stuff and answered all our questions the cave itself was also Great, nice formations and tour route was easy to navigate. My only complaint, and it's just personal preference is that I'm not a huge fan of colored lighting, I'd rather see the natural colors of the different formations. But once again the Cavern is a MUST see, I hope to be back again someday and stay at the campground which also looked nice.

I went on the two-hour Canyon Crawl tour in the wild cave, it was a wonderful experience. It was physically demanding, but the staff was very patient and accommodating, making sure that we were comfortable and safe and could take our own pace. Our guides, Maria and Katie, were very professional and knowledgeable about the cavern. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a real caving experience.

Google
The cavern tour was so much fun! Especially in the summer time. Our tour guide started us off by showing us a sign of all of the different wild life in the cavern and not even five minutes into the tour we saw a bat, crickets, and a few salamanders! The tour guide who I believe was also the manager was great and super patient with all of the kiddos asking questions and telling us all about the caves. The staff was also great at rescheduling due to last minute conflicts. Our whole family would recommend them and can't wait to come back.

Google
I can not say enough good things about Raccoon Mountain! This was my second time staying and it was another amazing experience. The grounds are so beautiful and well kept, the showers are clean and hot and the staff is absolutely amazing! They also had a pet sitting area that was sooo helpful when I wanted to grab some food/supplies before check in. You can’t go wrong staying here and i can’t wait to get back for another stay! I did the gem panning and the cave crawl and it was so much fun! Timothy was a great guide! I did the walking tour the previous time I stayed and that was a lot of fun too! I desperately needed a mini vacation and raccoon mountain and their staff made it the best experience and time I could have had! Thank you all for the perfect campground experience!

Google
We had a great experience on the cave crawl! It was our first time doing a crawl and we had a blast. The tour guide did a wonderful job leading us through the different areas. Highly recommend. Would do again!

Deluxe spots don’t fit two vehicles. Customer service is no good. They are extremely invasive and staff is weed eating at all hours. They don’t communicate when booking that there is overflow parking that is down a steep hill you have to walk back up .5-.7miles from the Rv site we were at. Couldn’t even have our truck and car is same space and it’s very sketchy and unprotected space we had to leave it in . We have had a bunch of male staff members just sitting and watching us while camping they don’t say anything just stare and watch. Very uncomfortable stay especially being a woman. We did the cave tour as well. Lady was nice but this place isn’t worth the stay or money. Not relaxing at all especially with staff being very invasive. This isn’t very scenic either no shade or much to do as far as biking or walking. Pool is very dirty and murky. Tiny spots where everyone is cramped up next to each other so it doesn’t matter what you pay you will get a tight spot. I wish everyone would’ve gave more honest reviews than we would’ve known.

Google
RV for 3 days. Nice clean place. Lots of staff available all day. I recommend their valet for RV newbies especially. Check in is a lot like it is for a hotel, not the classic campgrounds. We had a good time. Close to local things to do.

Melanie Dixon

Google
We RV and had a wonderful spot, all pull through and really pull throughs. Grounds are well cared for, trash pickup twice a day, bark park, ice and fire wood, staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and beautiful scenery. The cavern is in walking distance and was a great experience also, more rustic than Ruby falls and small groups which made the experience so much better. They also have some cabins and primitive campsites. The children seemed to love the area, we didn't have kids with us, plenty of space to ride bikes, a playground, pool, game area and all around secure area tucked in beside Raccoon mountain. They sit 15-20 minutes outside of Chattanooga where most attractions and restaurants are found.

Yelp
Great fun for the entire family! Very knowledgeable guides also. I would recommend for all. A day well spent.

Yelp
The staff is super friendly and provides great service like directing you to your campsite and firewood delivery. The sites and amenities are well kept, and we didn't have any issues with noisy neighbors. Location is convenient. Overall a great place to stay

Yelp
My flight was canceled due to weather and they were not willing to work with me for a refund or credit. This was going to my first time in Tennessee and it's unfortunate that they were not understanding of a situation out of my control. The manager was extremely rude and did not sympathize.

Tracey P.

Yelp
People the work here are amazing ! Not just pet friendly, but a everyone treats them like part of the family. Cabin was nice, the view is great, and close to lots of out door activities.

Karen G.

Yelp
One of the best caves I have been to besides the one in Townsend, TN. An awesome array of stalagmites with super cool doorways to go through and even saw some of the cave insects

Lauren D.

Yelp
We stayed at the campground one night as we were coming through town. The owner or manager lady was rude to us when we first arrived about not pulling in the right way. We almost left at that point but had no other place to stay. We didn't feel as safe there as we in other campgrounds. There were signs everywhere about not talking back to the workers and getting kicked out. If you have to have signs about that, that tells me your staff gets into many fights, which is not normal. The bathhouse were OK but a hassle to put the code in and remember it every time as we were staying in a pop-up and had to use it often. The pool was nice as well, but probably wouldn't stay here again.

Evie T.

Yelp
Our tour guide (Lilith) was amazing. She had a great sense of humor and is very smart, she really sounds like she knows what she's talking about. I would go there again!

Yelp
A very well monitored camp-ground, we arrived mid afternoon at the start of the Memorial Day weekend, there were campground monitors at the entrance - questions regarding the purpose of your visit and site number were part of the inquiry. We were here to visit family for the afternoon so they let us through with little hassle, I doubt this would have been the case if we were beer-drinking, hell-raising and blaring loud music (this place this a little more family oriented). The open format of the campground offers little shade for most campsites, they are well maintained but hopefully you don't mind close quarters because they rack them and stack them here - campers are usually a friendly bunch so get used to saying "hey, how are ya'll". The pavement pretty much ends when you pull off the main entrance, but the gravel roads are well maintained and since there were storms in the area I can't tell you if it gets dusty but it seems to drain well there was little standing water during periods of showers. We were talking the price per nite and the value it's seems a little steep to me for the site amenities although it's obvious they again try to make it family friendly - full hook-ups, fire-rings - clean restrooms and laundry facilities, a gift shop (that seems odd) but there is gem mining activities for kids and oh the infamous "swinging bridge" and of course the cavern that I can't speak too. All in all it's a clean and low key campground (definitely not party cove) I'm not sure if they have a curfew but the vibe is it gets pretty quite after the sunsets. It appears to be more about relaxing with a cocktail which is alright by me. It was a nice place to visit but I think after a day or two I'd get bored and tired of seeing the campground monitors riding around on their off-road ATVs directing the agenda and monitoring the parking. The surrounding area is mountainous and beautiful but it appears the swanky residential neighborhoods are closing in fast and that is definitely a buzz kill....

Yelp
Immaculate grounds, beautiful view, friendly staff, and fun things to do! Ava was a fabulous cavern guide even while getting dive-bombed by a bat twice! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
We have stayed here in the past driving through Chattanooga. I called Saturday to book a stay. The girl was rude and said they require a two night stay. Which is not on their website. Plus the other times we stayed we stayed one night. Booked a KOA instead. Lost our business. And it was cold crappy weather. They were not booked.

Yelp
We made a reservation on January 4th to stay at the campground January 6-11th. Unfortunately our daughter has COVID symptoms and we will need to head home. The campground refuses to refund our money. They state they have a 7 day cancellation policy. We did not sign anything to state we are aware of this. It is not even written on the receipt received in an email. We made the reservation 2 days in advance so a 7 day policy cannot even apply to us. $217.54 is how much they owe us. They cannot steal our money. We did not stay there so they cannot charge for services. Also, we had a cavern tour scheduled and needed to cancel that too for everyone's safety. That amount was $85.25. I am a veteran and have a service dog. The cavern told me my service dog is not allowed to be with me. That is against ADA policy. The policy states "State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go." They have discriminated me for my disability. We do not recommend staying here. Upon research, we are not the only ones that have had this problem. Check the Better Business Bureau's review!

Yelp
Wonderful RV park quite and peaceful. The sites are clean and they are very friendly.

Yelp
The cave is absolutely beautiful. It has definitely been a chore for management overtime to keep the beautification preserved of the natural Caverns without putting too much of a human being touch on what you go to see is natural. This is no longer privately owned from what I understand and it has lost a whole lot of its charm due to corporate takeover and it seems as though everyone has passion as far as the caverns but I don't know how much loyalty there is so far with ownership.

Yelp
We went to Raccoon Mountain for a family run and it was a long drive but worth it. We first stopped at the caverns (which made our drive longer) and they didn't have trails in this location, they had a gift shop, cavern tours and camping/RV area. They instructed us to drive to the Dam so we did. Its a beautiful area, very calm, long paved trails for bike riding or running, we did the Laurel trail which was aprox 3miles and we had a blast being able to see deers and breath fresh air. At the top of the dam, there is a small museum where they have people that can explain to you your exact location, show you the trails on a map, provide you with small cards with directions, etc. (Parking is free, no entry fee) I totally recommend this place is such a beautiful scene, lots of info, bathrooms are very clean as well! Will definitely be back

Yelp
Not for people with cat allergies or fears: My brother and I arrived very late (10pm), and were happy to see an envelope with our name and camp site information in it. We had reserved fire wood but We think we were too late to pick it up. However the night went downhill from there. We seemed to have become a point of interest to a cat which followed us to our camp site. First it jumped in our car while we were unloading and then found its way into our tent multiple times. When we went on a walk to try to find the owner the cat continued to follow us, even chasing us at some points. As it was late there was no one we could find to help us out. We eventually left and found other accommodations as the cat wouldn't leave us alone. If you are fine with cats, this place seemed very quiet. Maybe we just got unlucky

Yelp
The customer service at this campground is completely unacceptable. I booked a cabin three months in advance for my son to stay at Raccoon Mountain Campground while attending a music festival in Chattanooga. I told them when I booked the cabin that he was 20 years old and was not told that they had a minimum age requirement of 21 years old. They drove from Maryland to Tennessee and when they arrived at the campground to check into the cabin they were informed that they could not check in, because he was not 21. The manager said that it was "in the paperwork"; we immediately checked the email confirmation and it says nothing about a minimum age requirement. We have also checked their policy page on the website, and again it is not listed there either. The manager was very confrontational and condescending to them, stating that it is a policy at all campgrounds and hotels that you have to be 21 years old, which I can tell you is not accurate. I fortunately was able to book them a cabin at another campground in the area, who had no issues with him not being 21. I personally called and spoke to the manager at Raccoon Mountain to try to reach a resolution where I take full responsibility for the cabin, who literally told me that she does not care about where they are going to stay that is not her problem. They originally refused to provide a refund, but changed their stance once we made it clear that it is not stated in the confirmation email or their website. This could have been handled much better than it was by the staff. Luckily, other campers who were in the office at the time approached him outside to express to them how much they were taken back by the treatment they received and gave them the recommendation for the other campground in the area. When I was speaking to the other campground about the experience, they told me that Raccoon Mountain has been going through a series of management changes and he has heard numerous complaints about them. I would recommend looking into other campgrounds in Chattanooga and staying away from Raccoon Mountain.

Yelp
Relaxing and very clean campground. Staff is very helpful. I saw reviews talking about the numerous cats and during our 4 day stay we only saw one near the entrance. This place is very dog friendly and the bark park is simple but large enough for our 2 to run. The pool is very clean and relaxing. Not much at the campground to do but if you like to relax it is great. There is plenty in Chattanooga and surrounding area to do and if you need stuff Walmart is a couple miles away. I would give it 5 stars if there more frills but as a quiet campground I give it 5.

Anton M.

Yelp
Strange policy of this company. First, they sell the tour, of course, money for it. Then they demand to put on masks, well, ok in modern conditions this is understandable. At the same time, during the tour, you will learn that if you take off the mask three times, then the tour is over for you. My daughter, who is 2.5 years old, is natural to do this, she does not understand, due to her age, that you need to wear a mask and naturally these creatures of the workers kicked us out. Wouldn't recommend this place especially for those with kids. And for you stupid workers I will tell you that you have such zeal to comply with your tours ruled in other places. Of course they didn't give me the money back, bitches.

Yelp
I wanted this to be a really great campground, I really did, but it's really not. Camp sites are in need of maintenance, hook up pedestals are in very poor condition and bath houses are deplorable. The fitness room just plan smells bad. Just really too expensive for what you get.

Yelp
Raccoon Mountain Park featured the 2nd Annual Raccoon Mountain Marathon which is a wonderful addition to the park as it highlights the beauty of it by featuring both pavement and its trail network. Nicole and I traveled from Miami to get to this race which was her 24th US state and was my 66th career marathon and our first marathon in 2016---the first of two this weekend. Although the forecast called for 39 degrees and a chance of rain we truly lucked out with milder high 50s and no rain on a mostly over cast day, which was perfect weather for racing. I managed to secure an overall 3rd place finish, which I was happy about. The race featured breathtaking views of the Tennessee River and across the more than mountainous Chattanooga valley. The run was an out and back course running with half marathoners on both the levy system which holds the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Station Reservoir, and a number trails. There were serious climbs throughout the course which made it a very tough. After the first half of the race I was basically running alone as the first two runners had all but peeped away and the 4th place runner was no where near me. The race swag: nice size duffle bag, plastic mug, personalized branded woodallion on small sections of pine, a coon skin cap or coffee mug and at the finish were hot dogs, burgers and soda. The aid stations were a bit father away from one another than I had hoped. Additionally, the course is not certified so you won't qualify for Boston on it, though I don't think you would anyway given the technical nature of the trails and the elevation changes. I liked the close knit feel of the race and the breath taking views of the scenery. Truly a memorable race.

Yelp
Loved the cavern tour! Landan was so kind to answer a multitude of questions since we had little ones in our group. He knew everything we could think to ask and even shared a bit about current research happening in the caves! At 1st it seemed an inconvenience to reserve tickets for a tour, but once on the tour- such a great idea!

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at this park. Everyone was very friendly. On our stay we went to Rock City and Lookout mountain. It's a must see. So beautiful! Raccoon Mountain RV park is really beautiful too. Surrounded by mountains! What a great staff, very helpful.

Yelp
We were excited about Chattanooga. I called months ago requesting the best possible site with view and most expensive. We wanted a few friends in area to come one night and we were going to be here a week. However, upon arrival we got a mud hole. The campground can't control rain but they can control pricing and site assignment and deceiving us saying we booked Premium/Deluxe site. Beware...there is one row of "improved" sites with some kind of view and yet you can't reserve them? They won't tell you ahead your site nor will they move you when you are in water up to your ankles. And we have two westies! They will gladly charge for Deluxe price (Site 213) which is clearly a basic standard site (less that when raining). We were polite and respectful, support staff is pleasant and friendly but Mgmt and Owners should be embarrassed they should redo pricing strategy or they will lose future bookings. Impact was wet dirty dogs and shoes, and we cancelled local friends coming over to see us because we could not accommodate them. BTW, I called twice to clarify expectations that I needed best available site with view and sadly friends who paid for cheaper site had a better one. Campers be aware.

Amy V.

Yelp
We were very happy here...our ONLY issue was people walking through our site, even though we were the corner lot. People were walking through at all times of the day/night. In all of my 8 years of camping, I have never seen such a thing. The laundry room was really up to date, allowing credit cards for payment. On another note, we did a tour through Chattanooga Experience, with Hope & Ryan and it was AMAZING, look them up!

Yelp
We stayed in the primitive camping area for 5 nights at the end of may. We had spot 52 and LOVED our spot! We got to watch all the campers come in and out all week and relax in the sunshine. The tent spots are close in some spots but they staggered everyone out as people came and left. I personally enjoyed this because it allowed us to meet and chat with some pretty amazing travelers as they came and went. Almost all the tent spots are in the shade and had great tree cover. The location is perfect if you're looking for somewhere to stay close to Chattanooga! The price point for the primitive area was great! We were thankful we had access to some amazingly HOT showers after hiking during the day. They will also pick up your trash and deliver firewood right to your campsite! There is also washers and dryers on site that we were also thankful for! There is tons of neat swimming holes and hiking trails with views within 20-40 minutes of a drive. The cavern tour here is much more personable than ruby falls. Both neat caverns but I would say you get more for your dollar with this cavern tour. Such a great campground with some amazing staff! Ronny made our stay so welcoming and we felt so lucky to have met such great people. The resident cats were so sweet and came to say hello to us almost every morning and night. We will definitely be returning in the future!

Yelp
i think they write there on reviews the bathroom has mold on the ceiling shower head 5' froom floor i booked 5 nite but i had to leave one early they wouldn't give me any creit. the people are not freindly that works for campground. the cave tour was over priced for 30 min. tour

Yelp
Don't stay here if you want customer service. I should have paid attention to other reviews. We arrived to check in at our cabin at 2:30, they refused to check us in (3:00 js check in). The cabins are right at the office and are tiny, and with an 11 check out we were pretty sure that it was clean and ready. Then, I asked if we could use the pool ...nope, there were thunderstorm warnings near and it was closed, even though it had been well over 30 minutes since last thunder. So- we went to a public pool 20 minutes away. We were there for over and hour and a half and it wasn't closed. Then we went back to check in, and we're told the pool was closed for the night. I asked how long it had been since last thunder and was told two hours! He then said that they would have to vacuum the pool , and by the time they did that it would be too late. Notice the one leaf that needs to be vacuumed out. the Sounds like a bunch of lazy people on power trips. Do not go there. The only good thing I can say about it is that it was clean and well located close to attractions. Addendum: the next day, we went to the aquarium, and we called from the public pool at around 1:30 and were told the pool still wasn't open. It was mostly sunny and hot. Very frustrating since we chose this place to stay a couple of months before because they list pool as an amenity.

Yelp
I made a reservation to stay here on our way home. I needed to cancel because we couldn't make it and they refused to refund my money even though the reservation was made less than 24 hours ago. The manager said they only refund money if canceled 7 days in advance. I made the reservation last night. I was thinking this would be fun for my family. They just took my money an ran. Poor customer service. I can't imagine how they treat their guests. Crooks.

Yelp
Located just minutes from downtown Chattanooga, we opted to stay here and enjoy being away from the city. The park was easy to find and the visit was uneventful (meaning nothing worse than a cracked gas line in the water heater). You get a "valet" who takes you to your spot to prevent driving round and round looking for your space. Ample cable tv channels if you don't have a satellite dish. USE your water filter. Their water does not taste good. My only complaint is how close the sites are to each other. The campers next to us had their picnic table less than 2' from our sewer line. Same with the cable and electricity. Same distance. Fortunately for us, we had nobody on our "entertainment side", although the utility connections for theirs were just as close as our other neighbors. If the park were filled, I would not want to be outside by my camper. All in all, successful weekend camping. We will look at this vs others next year.

Yelp
We were excited to do this tour during Halloween weekend as they advertised it as "lanterns and legends." We were told zero spooky stories or legends like the website said. The tour of the cave was ok but it was not worth what we were sold. Our child and us walked away "eh" because of mis-advertising.

Yelp
We didn't have a chance to do any of the activities at the park, so I'm only looking at the RV park so far. We weren't planning on stopping in the area, but after a day of driving in the torrential remnants of Hurricane Joaquin, we were beat and ready to call it a day early. I called the office about 20 minutes out, and they let me know that they did have space that we could fit in to and to come on by. We were a little hesitant as we were heading back to the campground, as we didn't expect it to be quite as off the freeway. You have a few winding turns in to the woods, and you can't really tell if it going to end well. The asphalt and gravel weren't in the best shape, so we came in with low expectations. But that turned out to be unfounded. The road only winds for a mile or two, and once you get to the campground, there are plenty of signs pointing you toward the office. The guys at the office helped me pick out a site to suit us best (just a single night, so long with easy pull-through was perfect). The restaurant at the park will deliver to your RV, which was nice in the rain. It did take a long time for the food to get there, but I suspect that was because they were busy golf carting deliveries to every other rain-soaked resident that didn't want to walk over to the cafe. Despite the fact that it was miserably rainy the whole time we were there, it is obviously a beautiful little valley nestled in the mountains. We will definitely head back this way sometime when we are going for down-time.

Yelp
Nice RV park. Clean pool, family friendly. Attentive staff - helps you park your trailer upon arrival, picks up your trash. Allows overflow parking when you aren't quite ready to leave but have to check out. Easy on and off highway access. Shady trees and wifi! Laundry mat and small cabins. When you pull off the highway look for large billboards. When your turn on to the road it will say "dead end" but don't worry keep going and you will see a little blue signs that says "rv campground" on the right hand side... so keep going!

Yelp
We chose to check out this cavern instead of Ruby Falls because of the reviews from TripAdvisor , Google, and Yelp. We are sure glad we did! We drove 2 hours on a Friday to try someplace new. Raccoon Mountain Caverns was our first destination! The GPS and great signage took us right to the cavern entrance and to the campground area. Because this cave wasn't as heavily publicized as Ruby Falls, we didn't run into the "touristy" traffic. We walked into the gift shop area, looked around, then bought 2 adult tickets and brought our 2 year old. With tax, it cost us just under $30 for the easy 45 minute walking tour. The walk was relatively easy, but having a 2 year old, we really had to carry her and keep telling her, "Don't touch the rocks. Don't touch the rocks." It's very important not to touch the formations because it stops their formation. JOSH was our amazing tour guide. He was a young local that was as knowledgable as the WORLD BOOK ENCYCLOPEDIA. And he was very patient with all the insanely asked questions from the others in our group: Why are the handrails wet? Why don't we want to disturb the cave? How do I get the mud cave off my sweater? Can I look in that hole? Why can't I get cell phone reception? This is well worth the stop at the cave. If you want to tent camp, RV camp or stay in small cabins, they are also on the property. The staff was friendly. The grounds were clean. Cavern tours are as short as 45 minutes or up to 8 hours. Camping inside the cave is available. Check out their website. Well done, Raccoon Mountain Caverns.

Yelp
The literature describing this tour isn't as forthcoming as it should be. Let's get right to it. This tour is potentially more hazardous than it seems. I thought I'd be crawling through tight spaces and climbing and stuff, and all that did indeed happen, but it is all a bit more dangerous than you think. This is "easy, but hard". Meaning if you're in average shape you could do everything needed, but you may struggle with some of the stuff. The best way to say it is at no time did I feel like I couldn't do any of the things but there were plenty of times that I knew I'd have a heck of a time doing them. Add to that this is 2+ hours and 2 miles and I do heartily recommend getting in some semblance of shape before showing up, which I did. Tight in here, it's actually pretty hard and I am a 40 waist. It's not so much the tight space that is the issue but more of a "chinese finger trap puzzle" in that you kind of need to figure it out. If you're the panicky type this will mess with you pretty good, but once you do figure it out it's only a matter of time before you pull out of it. My advice which is easier said than done is don't panic. There was more than once where I felt like I was in a situation that I would slip and if I had I would have been seriously hurt. I will not lie about this, that is the major issue here. There is one place in particular that the guides just went over like it was nothing but it caught me off guard and I definitely wouldn't have made it without the help of the guy in front of me who stayed behind to help me out of it. Bring food like energy bars, meal replacement bars, and a sturdy water container that won't leak if put upside down. See if all you bring fits in a fanny pack. The cafeteria, as of this writing, was not open and they said it wouldn't be for a long while. Do not bring your camera unless it is something sturdy and protected like go pro. All you have is a head lamp. In fact, don't bring anything valuable whatsoever. The things you will go through will break them, no doubt about it. Yes, you will get injured. If you don't slip and fall (nobody did) one thing that you can count on is you will get scraped up in a few places. I was slightly bleeding in a few spots when I came out, my shin and my forearm. You won't get major injured, just scraped up a bit, and I enjoyed the fact that I did go through something dangerous. If you follow all the instructions, though, you won't sprain anything, although the potential is definitely there. It seemed like there were never handholds when you needed them most and in my opinion there was wide room for errors while climbing. That being said, there is no actual "wall climb" where you have to climb a sheer face like hobby climbers do. Nothing is super high or really far down, although upon first view you will think you can't make it.

Yelp
We took the short, "Let's stop here on our way by," tour and were pleasantly surprised that tours were frequent giving just enough time to see what you might like to get at the gift shop between. I didn't time it but the sign says it lasts approximately 45 minutes. There was also a full-gear "messy" cave tour that looked like fun and the guide pointed out some of the places that tour would go deeper into the blackness. The tour guide was young but very comfortable with the history and formations of the cave. He guided the tour with a personal touch that might make some young people think caving is a perfectly reasonable career path. I'm not saying it's not. I'm just saying I don't think it shows up on the ASVAB. Perhaps it should. The caves also host overnight stays for groups such as the scouts. We may be back with a bus load of kids! *Possible Bummer to Cave Newbies: This basic cave tour does not give the Full Black Experience. Due to problems in the past, they no longer turn off all the lights to let you see what true darkness is really like. I suggest Mammoth Cave for the Full Black Experience if you feel deprived after this tour. Or, for the more adventurous, spend the night here!

Yelp
Very enjoyable cave. Round trip is just under an hour and like most caves is about 62 degrees. Lots of stairs and a few tight places but overall very enjoyable. Use yelp and get a discount on merchandise They also offer a military discount. Woohoo

Yelp
First let me say I have been camping since the 1960s, and in pop-ups in the 70s with my family. I currently own a 40 ft Momentum toy hauler and it is the third camper my wife and I have owned. In all my years of camping, I have never written a bad review on a campground....until now. My wife and I booked a long camping trip throughout to United States to celebrate her retirement from law enforcement. All campgrounds were booked by me in early 2021 and the trip began in April. One of these campgrounds was Raccoon Mountain RV Park and Caverns, 319 West Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN, which was scheduled for our return leg. We booked a pull through site for Oct 3-10 and had to pay in full at the time of booking (January 2021). We were on our way from our campground in Jackson, TN to Raccoon Mountain on Oct 3 when we got word that my mother in FL had taken a serious turn for the worse after an accident and was expected to pass away anytime. We were 30 minutes from Raccoon Mountain RV Park when I received this call. Needless to say I was going to have to bypass Chattanooga and head straight to FL. Rather than call, I stopped by Raccoon Mountain RV Park to let them know the circumstances and why I could not stay. It was obvious that prior to receiving the news about my mother I planned to stay there as I had my 40 foot toy hauler with me. I was immediately informed that it is the manager's policy that there would be no refund. I informed the woman working the desk that I understood it was an immediate cancellation and that the policy was no refund, but under the circumstances I felt it very "cold" to dismiss us in that way. . I asked if at the very least they would refund any days the spot I reserved was filled by someone else since campgrounds are so booked that time of year. This woman, who I believe was named Donna, was very compassionate and friendly, advised she would ask the manager, Rene, if an exception could be made. Bottom line was Rene's answer was "no, no refunds", even if they book the site to someone else. I decided I had more important things to do at that time considering my mother was dying, so I departed and drove to SC for the night. On the following Monday I received a call from "Donna" advising the manager, Rene, had changed her mind and would issue a 90% refund. I thanked them and the following day I received a voicemail from "Donna" saying they needed my credit card number so the refund could be issued. I returned the call and provided the credit card information to another office employee whose name I did not get. She was expecting a call from me with that information though. After one entire month with no refund, on November 10, 2021 I telephoned the office to find out where the refund might be. I was told through an employee whose name I did not get that according to the records Rene did not authorize a refund but would allow me to camp provided it was before the end of this year (next month). Obviously this is impossible as we're busy settling my mother's estate, who passed several days after my first encounter at the office of Raccoon Mountain RV Park. I asked the employee to ask Rene about it as she may not recall the circumstances as to why she authorized the refund. Rene, the manager of Raccoon Mountain, flat out lied and said she NEVER authorized a refund. I asked if that were true then why would she need my credit card information. She could not lie her way out of that. I was told Raccoon Mountain RV Park would never have reason to call and ask for my credit card number. Well they did. From just its appearance when driving through Raccoon Mountain RV Park it was a somewhat shabby campground. Roads were narrow, construction was going on, people had fences in front of their campers so their dogs could run and bark. It seemed more a rundown trailer park than an RV Park. Definitely not "big rig friendly" in my opinion. That aside, there is NO excuse for the dishonest, unethical, uncompassionate, cold natured way Rene as the manager of this "RV Park" treated us, or the lies that came later. It should be noted that I never was allowed to personally speak to Rene; all communications were through her surrogates. I even left a message for her to call, and of course that never happened. I should have been suspicious of any park that requires a total payment up front. It seems that the policies and deceit of Rene and Raccoon Mountain RV Park may have cost me the price of a week of camping, but if I can save any of you from experiencing this despicable place then it will be worth it. DO NOT waste your money and stay at this trailer park. If I could give "0" stars, that'd still be too much.

Yelp
I'm so disappointed in our tour and our gemstones. Our tour guide rushed us so much because she had a Wild Cave Tour that was waiting on her (because she told us multiple times when we stopped to take pictures) and I even felt bad for asking the few questions I asked. Also, the kids (10-12) weren't impressed with the tour so we let them gem mine and paid for the "Mother Load" bag and we've gotten more rocks from a $5.95 bag in Gatlinburg and it cost over $60. It was the biggest waste of money I think I've ever spent. The cave itself was cool but honestly we couldn't really even really look. I guess I'm used to.more professional run attractions like Mammoth Cave or even Ruby Falls. I won't be back. Ever.

Yelp
We stayed here for a week. The campground is well maintained, and full of campers having lots of fun! In the daytime, definitely NOT quiet! Some Covid restrictions had been lifted and families were enjoying the use of the pool. The park was almost at capacity the entire time we were there! Having a 42 foot camper, we never know what to expect and in my opinion, we had the best spot....right on the end...(easy to pull out when we were ready to leave), and our yard was decent sized and off the road so we didn't have to share it with anyone. That did mean we saw everyone that walked by, which we didn't mind at all. Some evenings, we could still hear kids playing and running around after dark, but being a family campground we didn't mind too much. What I did mind was the small children running around, and riding motorized scooters with no helmets, and with no parents around. But, otherwise, we highly enjoyed our time here!

Yelp
Fun time for all. Great campground for families and the unseasoned camper. The staff was so friendly and helped us get firewood and ice delivered to our campsite. We stayed on a primitive campsite and tented. Due to corona the pool was closed but that did not stop us from having fun. There is a hiking trail right on the camp premises and a cave you can go exploring in. There are lots of outdoor activities to do during the day if you want to go explore we went whitewater rafting and explored some hikes. There are cats that belong to the campsite and will roam around and say hello. It is called raccoon mountain for a reason though. During our stay our camping neighbor left their trash out overnight we woke up to rustling noises and upon further exploration discovered a group of 3 raccoons going through peoples trash. The amenities the campsite offers are great and outstandingly clean. If you like camping but prefer more private bathhouses use the bathrooms by the office that building has private showers in a one person bathroom available to guests. The only cons and the reason I am giving this 4 stars is because the campground is a little cramped don't expect privacy at your campsite the people tenting next to us were right next to us and we could all see what everyone was doing at all times as well as hear each other. Not a big deal we still had a very enjoyable time but if you are looking for a more secluded place to tent this might not be the tenting site for you. The only other con was that the office said due to tree diseases we had to purchase their wood which we did no problem, however the wood they sold to us that we purchased on 3 different occasions on different days was wet and would not light well. Great campground and would recommend you get a lot for your money!!

Yelp
I wish this place had a few more bath houses but besides that the place was very clean, organized, quite and reasonable. Also über will come out to the site abs take you into town if you don't want to unhitch your dingy. You can explore the caves for a discount if you bring your RV receipt.

Yelp
This was a great stop over. Really Relaxing with so So much to see! Better than the place down the street! Caverns, hiking, lakes...the works. Quiet, nice people camp here. Watch the raccoons!

Yelp
This place is a zoo..I was tent camping 2 nights here and definitely not a place you want to go if you want peace and quiet..campground employees driving golf carts around at night, tent sites are on top of each other packed in like sardines.

Yelp
Wow!!! Holy cow! Standing ovation! I've never been spelunking and take my advice do ruby Falls first so when you come here you won't be totally disappointed walking into Ruby. Im fresh out the shower and haven't left the campground yet but had to write this review immediately! Our tour guide Ben was great! He even makes crossing a 85ft canyon seem like a breeze! Definitely a bucket list check off! Beautiful cave even if you just do the walking tour. Im not a small person size 16 and I was able to squeeze through everything obviously because because I'm not still in there! I did the echo room tour and kinda wished I'd pushed for the waterfall dome tour because it was so cool! I had tennis shoes and I recommend hiking shoes because it's pretty slippery on some parts. By the end you'll be family with the adventurers in your group because when you come out you know you just did something not a lot of people ever will!

Yelp
We were long term RVers here for many months and enjoyed our stay. The park is generally kept clean. The park is very pet friendly. People tend to pick up after their pets here and are respectful. The spaces in the main area are a nice size but the RV spaces in the rear of the park are very spacious. There are only 3 washers and 3 dryers. Too small for this big park. I had to go to the local laundrymat during the summer. We never used the showers, golf, go-cart, swimming pool, playground, cabins or caves so I can't comment. Sometimes its peculiar why there are maintenance issues when there are so many employees but they tend to get right on any major problems. The grounds have a good amount of trees, a creek that's wet about 50% of the time, and sits at the base of a "mountain." It's very pretty in summer and fall. Overall, I'd recommend this campground for RVers and campers.
