How New Year's Eve is celebrated around the world - SilverKris

"A popular gathering spot in Copenhagen on New Year’s Eve where crowds assemble to hear the clock tower chime as one year ends and another begins. After many Danes watch the queen’s televised speech and toast with champagne at home, they often head out to this square to celebrate with friends and fellow revelers; at midnight it’s common to see people leap off chairs as a traditional “jump” for good luck, creating a lively, communal countdown centered on the clock tower." - BALVINDER SANDHU

Lovely square has a metro and city hall. Vibrant environment around the plaza with Tivoli Gardens nearby too. Pubs and restaurants and a hotel. Hans Christian Anderson looking out to the gardens. An old city corner stone marks where the fortifications used to be.

This place is the open area between the city hall and harbor. What i felt is that the whole area is toed together. The wide open area is very busy with different music , event etc. this makes the area lively and lovable. And let's not forget the harbor, where you can catch a ferry for a fjord ride that's simply unforgettable – especially when capped off with a spectacular sunset!

Majestic building. Wonderful architecture, surrounded by fountains and statues. Hans Christian Anderson statue around the side. Was disappointed that we couldn't go inside. Very near main shopping area.

New Year’s Eve firework extravaganza! Careful, it is chaotic but fun. Never seen it been a part of anything like it in my life before.

It's the Coppenhaguen City Hall Square. Biggest one in city. Dominated by City Hall, fountain, sculpture of trumpet and famous clock that depicts woman riding o bycicle in sunny days and a woman with an umbrella for rainy days. Lots of shops and eateries.

I got married here last year and just love everything about this building 🥰 the interior is beautiful. I am not sure for general visitors who want to tour inside, but the security at the front door will help you with the information.

Visited on the 2nd Sunday of Advent — no snow this time❄️⛈️, but something was clearly happening in front of the Rathaus: not a classical music💥, tents, some kind of event… still not entirely sure what it was 😄 But honestly, the square itself and the beautiful Copenhagen City Hall steal the show anyway. Nothing can beat this view. Truly enjoyed every moment!

Yelp
Rådhuspladsen is the big square located in front of the Copenhagen City Hall building. Hard to miss with the huge building to one side and surrounded by a hotel, retail shops, coffee shops and restaurants. In 2018, it's getting a bit of reconstruction and redesign with a bus hub and a metro station. This is one of the big hangouts for celebrations. On a warm September morning, it was quite lovely. The Sun hit the Rådhus beautifully.

Yelp
Rådhuspladsen is a massive square and is dominated by the Copenhagen City Hall. The square is located between Strøget and the Tivoli Gardens and is extremely popular. It is also a venue for events and demonstrations. It is hard to miss when in Copenhagen. I did enjoy stopping to take some photos in the square, although I don't think of it as a destination unto itself. You will pass through it to get to the pedestrian shopping area, which is highly recommended. Also, this is the meeting place for the Free Walking Tour of Copenhagen. So, I was able to have a simple lunch at the square and people watched until the tour guide arrived. There's always some kind of music in the square, and there are benches for sitting and watching or feeding the birds. It's a good place for photography, and feels very safe even for women traveling alone. :)

Yelp
Nothing more than a government building set in the town Square, Rådhuspladsen is impossible to miss due to a location halfway between Tivoli and The Stroget, the edifice looming over a crowd of tourists and locals but unfortunately surrounded by dissimilar buildings that make the whole area seem sort of 'forced.'

Yelp
My hotel was only a few feet away from this place. I'd walk here everyday. It's across the street from Tivoli. So, if you're already going there, make a quick stop here to take photos and people watch. Don't expect much. It's free! This is the big empty square of City Hall. This serves as a meeting place for most people so from before noon to evening, it is packed with people. There's a fountain. On the side, you'll find a statue of Hans Christian Andersen. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.

Yelp
Rådhuspladsen is the large public square which sits in the shadows of the stately and historic Copenhagen City Hall. The square is a hub of the many miles of beautifully historic pedestrian streets, and a gathering place for folks from all corners of the globe, merchant kiosks, street performers and public message boards. As in so much of this magical city, English is not only understood widely, but spoken better than what you would hear in the public plazas of most major American cities. A quaint cobblestone pedestrian mecca, the hustle and bustle of Rådhuspladsen rivals that of Times Square; sensory overload prevails. Unlike Times Square, the general warmth, civility and friendliness is genuine and pervasive. As I stood reading an area map posted on a public bulletin board I was approached by a half dozen leather clad Romani ("Gypsy") bikers. In a fantastic mood, and aware of the fact that we were in a very public place with many police, I paid little attention to the circle which gradually narrowed around me. Finally, the leader of the group spoke, offering me "my own Little Mermaid" (a veiled local reference to the famous statue in Copenhagen Harbor, applied to a prostitute). My response was, "I'm from New York, my friend, and know how to find what I'm looking for." The leader took two steps backward, while repeating "New York" and pointing to me. Immediately, the leader and his group were asking me to describe New York to them, and were genuinely fascinated by the conversation. . . Where else but in Copenhagen? . . Hvor ellers men i København?

Yelp
A beautiful, historic square that is a busy, busy central hub of life in the centre of Kobnhavn. To me, more charming from a distance, to admire the full architecture.

Yelp
Dear Peter and Jane As you know I'm now visiting Copenhagen, as the Danes themselves tend to call 'Wonderful Copenhagen' but what I see so far is a lot of mess and noise from all the building and renovation downtown. It seems to be one big construction site with dust and bricks laying everywhere around . Today I visited the City Hall, which I was looking very much forward to see. The building itself was really nice but holy moly, the square was chaotic, weird and ugly and most of all made me feel like Im in the midlle of a warzone - not so wonderful. Who knows, maybe when all the construction work is done, it's gonna be charming but as it seems now, I for sure didn't feel like spending my time here at all. Next stop; The Little Mermaid. I hope she'll be there saluting me.

Yelp
I don't know why this square has such terrible reviews, but it's not a bad square. It's pretty big and full of construction right now, but it's right in the city center and there are a lot of shops around it. Good meeting place for sure, although specify where you're going to meet otherwise you might not find your other party. I would come just to check it out, since it's in the city center!
