Radisson Blu was home for my first week in Sydney, chosen for its convenience from the airport by train, and for its proximity to work and tourist attractions alike. Check-in was a delight and a breeze; staff were cheerful, accommodating, and welcoming.
I was situated on the top floor in one of their deluxe rooms which was well appointed and quite comfortable. The spacious bathroom was the show-stealer with its grand soaking tub and separate shower. My stay would also have been peaceful had it not been for the toilet which ran all night. I notified the staff on my way out the next morning. They were apologetic and said it would be tended to right away. Returning that evening the toilet was worse than before. I slept with the bathroom door closed and my head buried under my pillow. Notifying them once again the next morning they offered to change my room and I gladly accepted.
My second room's toilet was fully functioning; however, the heater/aircon was not. The heat would either blast until I turned off the thermostat, or at times when I tried to turn on the heat it would not work at all. I called the front desk and they were very prompt in sending someone up. Unfortunately, this someone spoke down to me as he instructed me on how to work the thermostat (which I was fully capable of working and which was not working any better for him despite his great knowledge) and then suggested the issue was that I'm unfamiliar with Celsius (not only does the thermostat have a Fahrenheit setting, but I'm Canadian and happen to know my way around Celsius, thank you very much), then left congratulating himself when the heat came on randomly like it had been doing all along. The issue persisted the next day, and when I notified the staff again (same gentleman) I was able to inform him of a diagnostic code that showed on the thermostat display. I let him know I'd looked it up online and found that a sensor needed replacing. His response was "well sorry about that, I'm not an engineer," excusing his inability to help the other night. He promised someone would be up that day while I was out and that if they were unable to fix the problem that they would change rooms (yet again). Arriving back that night I checked in with the front desk before heading up to my room. They said they would find out if the problem had been fixed and call up to let me know. Nobody called, and I soon found that nothing had changed. At this point there were only two nights left to my stay, so I didn't push the issue and just lived with intermittent heat.
Pluses to my stay were the comfortable lounge which was surprisingly sparsely attended mornings and provided a quiet place for coffee and toasted banana bread (recommended). The lap pool, spa, and steam room were very inviting. Room service was prompt, portions generous, and the food was utterly delicious. I also took advantage of their pillow menu which offered a wide assortment of pillows for all your sleeping needs.
I wouldn't be disappointed if I ended up back at the Radisson Blu on a future stay, but it would not be my first pick with so many other options in the immediate vicinity.
