Raffles Hotel Le Royal (Phnom Penh, Cambodia) 8 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Phnom Penh is a tourist destination once again. It’s challenging and strange, to be sure, but with an air of slightly nostalgic romance, for which the Hotel Le Royal is perfectly suited. This vanilla-colored confection was, in another life, the hotel of choice for jet setters like Jackie O, Andre Malraux, and W. Somerset Maugham. Later, journalists Sydney Schanberg and Jon Swain (of Killing Fields fame) would stay here while they were covering the Khmer Rouge. And today the elegance of Le Royal stands out in vivid contrast to the dust of the streets around it. Needless to say, it’s no longer quite the same place where Jackie O once swam, after a decade of Communist-era neglect followed by a hyper-luxe renovation. The spa is impressive, as is the slick Art Deco lobby. The original building, as is so often the case, is superior to the two new wings, but only in terms of character. And the best rooms, naturally, are the Jackie O and the Landmark suites, with their real Persian rugs and Deco-period furnishings, including Cambodian curios, canopy beds and claw-footed bathtubs. Phnom Penh is a necessary stop for anyone going to Cambodia, not just as a stopover on the way to the temple of Angkor, but for the glimpses it offers into this country’s more recent history. And Le Royal is still Phnom Penh’s top hotel by far. It’s the best located, just steps away from the Royal Palace and the museum, which constitute the most picturesque parts of the town. It’s also the one whose bars remain open after the rest of the town shuts at sundown." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed for 12 nights in July having done all the countries around Cambodia so thought we would take in Phnom Penh slowly and take some time to relax at the same time. ||From the moment we set foot at the hotel we were blown away by the staff. From the doormen and reception when we arrived. To bar and restaurant staff, pool service and housekeeping, every single person we met were of the highest professional standards in their presentation and their friendly manner. ||Every query was met with a smile and solution, no problem was too big or small, everyone happy to chat. Just walk around the hotel and every door will magically open with a smile behind it. Wonderful staff. ||Hotel itself is old world charm and very comfortable. Pool area was always quiet and very relaxing with staff on hand there too. ||We ate breakfast, lunch by the pool, room service, afternoon tea and went to the Elephant Bar and prices were reasonable and the food quality was fantastic. ||We did not want to leave and just want the staff to know how fantastic they are, and what a wonderful job they are doing in representing the Raffles brand. True ambassadors . ||We will be back someday!

I visited Raffles today to review option for an event planned in January 2026. I am totally blown away by the staff, service, welcome and ambiance. I met with Chary and nothing was too much for her. Every question answered with researched support. Enjoyed a light lunch in the writers room, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Congratulations to the chef. Will definitely be on my short list and will definitely be visiting Elephant Bar on next visit. Thank you Chary for making my short visit so memorable.

We absolutely loved our stay at Raffles Le Royal - it completely lived up to the Raffles name. From the moment we walked in, we were surrounded by that timeless colonial elegance the brand is famous for, and the service made us feel genuinely special. ||A lovely surprise awaited us - we got upgraded to a pool view room. Spacious, comfortable, and full of that classic Raffles charm. What really stood out was the staff - every single person we met was professional, warm, and went out of their way to help. ||Breakfast was a real highlight. Unlike typical hotel buffets, here they serve you properly at your table - fresh juices, excellent coffee, and delicious dishes made to order. It felt luxurious without being stuffy. ||If we had to find one thing to improve, it would be the room doors. They let in more hallway noise than we'd expect from a luxury hotel, and didn't close as smoothly as they could. Better soundproofing would make the rooms perfect. ||Even with this small issue, Raffles Le Royal is easily one of the best hotels in Phnom Penh. That magical mix of history, service, and attention to detail creates something really special. We'd go back in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone wanting a proper luxury experience in Cambodia's capital.

The best place I found in Cambodia, great food but the elephant bar cocktails and food were delicious. Go at the right time and it’s 50% off!! |The service was second to none, and to be honest I didn’t want to leave the room! Room service was prompt. The bath tub was epic. |The restaurants are fine dining. I’m f you want to finish your trip to Cambodia with some style this is the place to do it.|The pool area is a serene place to relax with your own butler if you wish!!

From the moment I arrived, I was impressed. The cleanliness of the entire hotel was exceptional, creating a relaxing and comfortable environment. But what really sets this hotel apart, however, is its staff. They are all consistently polite, and genuinely warm and welcoming, not to mention professional, and incredibly efficient. There are too many to mention, but Sreyny (our personal butler) , in particular, provided service that went above and beyond as did Mao (?), the Raffles tuk tuk driver. Also, don’t miss the fantastic breakfast, or the cocktails at the iconic Elephant Bar (the Phenom Penh Sling was a personal favourite of mine - and an excellent take on the original Singapore Sling).

Great stay with great service although we booked in advance to dine at the le royale restaurant for my partners birthday only to find out that it was booked for a private event when we showed up for dinner. The staff were accommodating but honestly we would have preferred to dine at a nice restaurant somewhere else as oppose to the breakfast restaurant which was the only option given the short notice. It’s an understandable error but not expected at raffles.
