We returned to Raffles after an excellent stay last year, expecting the same level of service, but this visit was less satisfying.
What we loved:
• F&B team – Outstanding service across all restaurants and bars, with improved menus and wider choices.
• Nature & location – Remote, serene setting with pristine beaches and a lively house reef.
What disappointed us:
• Villa comfort – Our villa’s air conditioning was extremely noisy, making it hard to sleep. Despite escalating the issue, it wasn’t resolved. Also, not all villas have direct beach access — only Villas 1–3 do.
• Butler service – This was the biggest letdown. Our butler seemed disengaged, offered little information, and didn’t proactively arrange activities. A missed dolphin cruise we had planned was poorly handled, and communication was minimal.
• Inconsistent service – The dive center experience varied: sometimes welcoming, sometimes inattentive.
• Guest mix & atmosphere – Expect a diverse crowd, including families with small kids, which can make public areas noisier than expected.
Bottom line:
Raffles has a beautiful setting, great food, and a stunning reef, but the overall guest experience no longer matches its premium price point. For the same budget, there are resorts closer to Malé with more attentive service and better value.
