McCall, Idaho, Travel Guide

"Twenty minutes south of McCall in Donnelly is Ragazza Di Bufalo, Weber's first restaurant choice, especially when he has cause to celebrate. "It's about $100 a couple, but it's fantastic Italian cuisine," he says. "When you walk in, you feel like you're in a high-end restaurant." The bison lasagna includes local meat, or you can savor Idaho trout with an almond crust to satiate your appetite after a long day on the slopes." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Not a place you would expect to find here! The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing. I definitely will be back. Be sure to make reservations.

Google
Ordered take out. The crispy chicken parmesean and chicken fettuccine alfredo were great and kid approved! Obly complaint is the portion size was smaller than expected and smaller than comparable restaurants for the price.

I was tardy in making Valentine’s Day reservations, but luckily there were some cancelations and the team at Ragazza di Bufalo reached out on Facebook letting me know some spots had opened up. I snagged what was available and am more than glad I did. The food is amazing! All of it! Bread, clam chowder, bison steak, crab encrusted fish…we’ll be back for sure! The rose for my lady was a nice and unexpected touch. Well done friends, well done.

Google
Manager left very false claims after I edited my review and after a very nice phone call. The only reviews I left were on google and open table. I did not storm all media outlets with negative reviews. I did tell staff about how unhappy I was with the meals. Will never recommend again and will never visit again. Edit: After leaving the review I got a very nice call from the manager. She was super nice and said that she wished we would have mentioned while there. She offered a free entree if I visit again Service and atmosphere were great but food very disappointing. I was so looking forward going back for my birthday. I have told so many how wonderful their food was and highly recommended them. This time the food was mediocre at best. I will share pictures to demonstrate the difference. I reordered the short ribs and the portion was so small, it was a fourth the size as before. Also they served it over macaroni and cheese instead of the truffle risotto. Tastes were not complimentary at all. The fettuccine noodles were gummy and too aldente. The desert lava cake was not very good either. They need to go back to the mocha cheesecake with raspberry sauce. The clam appetizer was so so. The only appetizer that was superior was the fried artichoke heart. We all said maybe the chef was on vacation to have such substandard food. Doubtful I will recommend anymore or return.

Google
Wonderful food and great service. I didn’t have a reservation, but they were able to squeeze me in anyway. I was visiting from out of town and got lots of great recommendations for both my dining experience and beyond.

Google
The food & staff are amazing! Are server Terri was the best! We had the artichoke appetizer which was delicious. I enjoyed the lobster linguini it has lots of meat & my bf had the braised boneless ribs which were to die for! The meat falls right off the bone. To end the night we had the 3 layered coconut cake

Google
Wow my shellfish manicotti was chefs kiss FANTASTIC!! I’m so impressed with this place! DJ was a great waitress. The wine was amazing. Definitely the best Italian food in AMERICA! Yes I said that. The best. I’ve spent 12 days in Italy and nothing here comes close but this place!

AM Robert

Google
4 stars for atmosphere, sunset lake views, and service. 3 stars for food - they’ve changed the menu with no healthy options besides the salads. Heavy cheese sauce for several dishes , bacon, even the seafood came as a pasta option for except for 1. Please offer light options especially for hot summer days!! Your previous menu was more varied . we won’t be back for cheese pasta dishes.

Yelp
It had been 3.5 yrs since we sold our cabin and had a chance to dine here but other than the expected inflation induced price jump, the food, service, and overall experience was very good and in line with previous visits. Having previously owned property in Valley county for 9 yrs I've come to understand you have to grade on a curve here as everything is harder to get, especially help, but we've always been happy with the knowledge and attention from staff here. Prices are inline with the valley, though I was a bit surprised the bread isn't complimentary anymore, though it's above average for sure and comes with special spreads that are good. Overall, the value is high here. Our server happened to recommend the exact two dishes we came in thinking about, the Chicken Parm and the Lasagna, and both were great and enough to take some home. Wish I had taken pics but I was too hungry to wait. Here's to not waiting 3 yrs to get back.

Yelp
Such an amazing restaurant. It's one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. Everything is made in-house. We started off with focaccia for the table, shared the pork belly which was served with a dollop of celery purée . Side salad with a huckleberry vinaigrette. The chicken parm was excellent. The chicken was cooked to perfection , moist but crispy upon a bed of fresh pasta. Servings were large enough to share . They also had a nice selection of wine. Service was excellent as well.

Yelp
There honestly is not a better Italian restaurant in Idaho. This quaint stop is everything. it is intimate and perfect. The food is wonderful and the service is great. Price is reasonable for what it is.

Yelp
So glad to save my 105th review of the year to my new favorite Italian restaurant located in Donnelly, Idaho just a short 15-20 min drive from McCall. We made a reservation online and glad we did because seating here is limited and it was almost a full house when we were there last night. This is a very quaint little spot with great modern decor and a reminder taking me back to any other great restaurant in a major city. For dinner we started off with the crispy artichoke hearts with creamed spinach sauce. These were awesome! Perfectly breaded and the artichokes were so tender were a great start to the meal. I also had the classic cesar salad and loved their twist in this classic with the perfect amount of dressing and parmesan. My wife had the asparagus gnocchi with portabella mushrooms, sage, red peppers and goat cheese. My wife said it best with no words and just enjoyed this thoroughly. Even said this might've been one of the best gnocchi dishes she has ever had. I had the pasta carbonara and equally one of the better dishes I have had as well. The freshness of the dish was so evident throughout and the crispy pancetta was a true highlight. With absolutely no room for desert we left so full back into the blustery night for the drive back to McCall. This restaurant is and was such a highlight of this trip. What a true gem and cannot wait to come back and eat here again. The staff that works here is outstanding and you can tell they take the time to get to know there customers especially the locals. Despite not being local we felt part of this family.

Barb Z.

Yelp
Ate here 3 of the 4 nights we were in the area. Everything was outstanding! We're seniors and have eaten out a lot over the years! All of us agreed that we have not seen this level of service anywhere. The food and desserts were so good we're planning a return trip just to eat here!

Yelp
Fried artichokes - perfect with the cheese sauce. Chicken Parmesan - soooo good. Branzino stuffed with crab - yummy! The fresh focaccia bread - to die for. Service was on point. Lovely woman who helped us was attentive. Nice and quiet even though the place is small. One of my favorite meals on our 4 week road trip.

Yelp
Went here for dinner while spending a weekend in Donnelly and it was absolutely delicious! The homemade focaccia bread is a must. Loved the samples of garlic butter, fig goat cheese, and bruschetta that came with it as well. My husband got the chicken Parmesan and I got the mushroom ravioli. He loved the chicken parm and the taste that I had was good too. The Alfredo sauce in it wasn't very creamy like I'm used to, but still pretty flavorful. I loved the mushroom ravioli! You DEFINITELY need to be a big fan of mushrooms and truffle as they are very prevalent in this dish. Overall delicious and reasonably priced for the quality.

Yelp
The staff is amazing. They take care of like your the only person who matters just at that moment. The food is amazing and the wine they recommend with the food is very refreshing.

Yelp
Spectacular food and wine in a fantastic, intimate setting. Buon compleanno, Ragazza! Tanti auguri a ti!!

Yelp
A favorite for us. We don't come to town without eating at Ragazza. Get the lasagna if you can, its incredible.

Nancy K.

Yelp
Ragazza Di Bufalo is fantastic. I thought I made a reservation last Tues. night and then wanted to change the time to earlier. They couldn't find my reservation (I made it for the next day by mistake) but were happy to accommodate our group of 4 at the earlier time that I requested. All 4 of us had different entrees and we were all very happy with our meals. Ragazza is a very small place so if you want to eat there be sure to make a reservation. If your party is large call them, well in advance, to make a reservation. They will do their best to accommodate you.

Yelp
I came here with family while on vacation in the area. This place is quite small, but they did a great job with seating and decor in the space they had. We had a party of 8 and they were able to get us seated at a table to accommodate our party. We had a couple of orders of bruschetta to start us off and it was really good. I had the smoked salmon pasta and my wife had the buffalo lasagna. My dish was very good, but I wish it had a bit more salmon in it. My wife's lasagna was completely burnt on the bottom layer and she couldn't even cut through it with a fork. My brother in law had the filet and he ordered it medium rare. His filet was well done and has NO pink in the center whatsoever. I thought our meals were good for the most part, but definitely not worth the hefty price tag they charge.

Joanna M.

Yelp
We had an amazing meal a year ago and couldn't wait to go back to this lovely place. Still remembering the lasagna. This year: excellent service, still love the coziness of this place and a nice wine list. The food was different--many things fried in the same breading, topped with the same tomato sauce, and topped with the same grated mozzarella. My shortribs were a little rubbery, rather than the fall apart dish expected.
google avatar

Kristi R.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant. The atmosphere was charming and the food was excellent. The wine pairings were spot on. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Blown away by this place! Took two years of owning property in Donnelly to visit Regazza, and that was 2 years too long! Nice, laid back atmosphere, great service and amazing food. My wife had the lobster pasta and I had the Bison Lasagna... very, very good food! The focaccia style bread to start out was delicious, and the Lava Cake dessert we shared was scrumptious! Make sure to get reservations and try this place out, you won't be disappointed, especially for the reasonable price!

Yelp
Excellent. This place will compete with Italian restaurants in much larger cities. Great staff!!

Yelp
First time dining here ! Our new home town! Our server Kayla was top notch!! We were here to celebrate our 41st anniversary and it didn't disappoint. The Tenderloin Florentine was superb as well as my husband's Branzino filled with crab! Clam chowder was the best we've ever had!!! Our new favorite restaurant!!!
google avatar

Yelp
All the food we have had here has been above expectations! In this time of poor service fro Lack of help, even the service was above expectations! I highly recommend! Plan ahead, make reservations!!

Yelp
We kept driving by all week so finally decided this would be our last meal in the mountains. Skip was our server and he was awesome. Food was amazing! We had a variety of everything, fresh bread is great dipped in oil, flatbread is a Chefs daily special so today's might not be the same as yesterday's - ours had meatballs, tomatoes and basil which was phenomenal! House Pinot was pretty good, it had a lot of cork in it so not sure what happened there but overall it was good for an $8 glass. Sticky toffee pudding thing was very sweet, my son enjoyed that a lot. Make a reservation bc this place fills up SO FAST. I could not get one online so called and they fit us in, when we arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 res it was hard to find a parking spot, people waiting outside the door and in the tiny hallway for tables. Every table in and out was packed. Dress code: definitely more than anything else in the area (we were staying in cascade). Not your come from the farm or lake type of place but not exactly black tie either. Just dress nicely and you'll be alright! Bathrooms located inside. Cash and card accepted. Parking is available, but it does fill up if they are busy.

Yelp
This place is really cute and quaint. Had to have only been about 15 tables or so. Not a huge place. We sat down and our waitress was Kelly. Super friendly and pretty nice all around. We got the focaccia bread with the three toppings. A blue cheese butter, a garlic and herb butter, and a Kalamata topping. Bread was crusty and warm. All of the toppings were really good. Blue cheese is definitely an acquired taste. We split the chicken parm. Just want to say, this wasn't "chicken parmigiana". This was literally fried chicken with Alfredo. We got it with the fettuccine Alfredo sauce. The sauce was ok, but it needed something. Pepper, salt, garlic. Not sure what. The chicken was pretty crunchy, but it didn't give me the Home breaded and pounded chicken taste. Maybe it would have been better if they had put some marinara on top and some melted mozzarella cheese. They did split it into two plates for us. Thank you so much. We also got the crème brûlée. Pretty good. The lemon cookies were awesome also. The raspberries on top... how the heck did they get such fresh berries!!??

Yelp
The food was excellent, and being in a town of only a few restaurants, this is most definitely a 5. The selfish manicotti brings it down to a 4 because we had an allergic reaction after dinner due to it not being just shellfish. The pesto flatbread was great, as were the bison tortellini and the Caesar salad for starters. We had a large party, so many of the entrees were ordered. I thought the short ribs were the best, and next was the yak and bison lasagne. I had the seafood manicotti which was good, but something about it just wasn't amazing. The filling had something that wasn't listed as someone who is allergic to fish (not shellfish as listed) had an allergic reaction after dinner and it was a bit of a letdown the rest of the night. Other than that, everyone was satisfied and our server was the best.

Crystal M.

Yelp
Stopped here on the way home from McCall and the food and service did not disappoint. Also, the Calamari, salad and focaccia bread, not pictured, was great to share and very flavorful. Definitely going back.

Justin W.

Yelp
Great food, great service. My wife and I have eating here for 4 years now. Chef Topple never disappoints.

Peggy B.

Yelp
The service is fantastic. Can't say enough about Skip and his family. The food never fails. I had the salmon w/orzo and capers. It was cooked perfectly. The gazpacho which I have never had before was wonderful. It's like a Italian salsa. And then dessert. I had tiramisu - oh, so light and flavorful. The whole dinner was fabulous. I wish they had a restaurant closer to Middleton, but we would need the chef to come also. We go every time we go that direction.

Dan J.

Yelp
Food: was excellent freshly prepared and served hot to the table. Service: Wait staff was kind we dined outside as we were traveling our dog. they served our dog water before attending to us which was needed and appreciated. Ambiance: seemed quaint inside however we dined outside due to travel with our dog that was OK by the staff and facility. property set close to hyw, but it was not an issue as speed in town was 25mph and therefore had no negative impact at our table. Recomend: Highly recommend Ragazza DiBufflao.

Marie K.

Yelp
This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Northwest! The service is outstanding and the food is amazing.

Yelp
Service was great. They seated us even with a half hour left before closing. Service were super friendly with great recommendations for local wine. Started with caprese salad and caesar salad. They had pickled anchovy in the Caesar..very good. Lots of tomatoes of different varieties in the caprese. The corn and shrimp appetizer had a long name. Very tasty. We ordered the Yak and Bison lasagna, the shellfish cannelloni, and the lobster linguine. All were delicious but I would have preferred more garlic. The coconut cake dessert was the best. We tried the tiramisu--steong coffee flavor, cannoli--very good but had a bitter aftertaste, and lemon curd cheesecake..it was meh. Visiting from out of town. Worth stopped here again.

Yelp
Super awesome food and service. We sat outside on a perfect day. The service was good. Bread and oil to start. Tasted good, but only 4 small slices. Not bad. We had the bison lasagna, chicken parm and the short rib. Great flavor on all dishes. Hot and fresh food. Got a chance to meet the owner as he went from table to table. A nice touch. Definitely will come back when in the area. Thank you for the nice meal. A place for a good memory.

Octavian P.

Yelp
I recently indulged in this extraordinary dining experience at this superb Italian restaurant. The chef's masterful fusion of traditional flavors and contemporary finesse created a culinary masterpiece. The impeccable service and opulent ambiance further elevated the overall enjoyment. This establishment is the epitome of gastronomic excellence, offering a refined and memorable taste of Italian culinary artistry. You have swept me by thy feet and have tooketh me out! I hope to dine here again and for you all to fill up my insides a second time.

Yelp
This was such a wonderful surprise for dinner on our way up to McCall as we stayed the night here. We arrived. during family hour and had a nice discount. Bison ravioli and hubby had Salmon. It was delicious and we had a most wonderful server! Desserts are homemade and the chef came out and asked this how we liked the meal!
google avatar

Sarah Jane E.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything here is immaculate! From the soups/salads/apps to the seasonal desserts - everything is good. High price is worth the meal! We ordered the Burrata Salad and Crab Balls to start. Entrees were Bison Lasagna (a favorite), Lobster Linguine, and Shellfish Manicotti. You literally can't go wrong with any of those dishes.

ronald m.

Yelp
The food is only surpassed by the service! A very special find in the dining world. Try one of their bread specials... a great way to start a meal at Ragazza Di Bufalo. The seating is limited so reservation is recommended.

Bonnie M.

Yelp
I bought a gift certificate and had it mailed to my daughter and son in law who happen to live 10 miles away. It's our favorite restaurant when we visit the area. Delicious food. Nick and Bonnie Munoz

Yelp
Best restaurant in town is not an understatement. Be sure to make reservations. Would eat there anytime.

Yelp
This place is an amazing gem! Don't miss it if you are in Valley County. The food is remarkable and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I suggest each ordering an entree but share it family style to get the true experience.

Sarah U.

Yelp
Our family of nine came here the Tuesday after Labor Day to dine, and it was so nice and peaceful. Quaint little building. Service was wonderful- Julie was kind, detailed, attentive, and made wonderful recommendations. Food was amazing!! One fam member ordered the bison lasagna- wow! Not at all gamey as I would have imagined delicious. Mushroom pasta had truffle in the sauce and was superb. Definitely recommend the baked-to-order focaccia to start. The kids mac and cheese was also delectable my four year old polished the entire well-portioned bowl and we had to order another haha!! Which we have never done before. Great experience overall. Will say we ordered two diff ones and neither knocked my socks off but we're "okay". Would def make it a point to come back anytime in Donnelly.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure what all the hype is about. This was pretty bad from the start. Flavorless bread, not worth the calories, followed by doughy calamari that came with tartar sauce, instead of marinara? Only ate a few bites, and told our waiter it was pretty bad, and he didn't even offer to take it off the bill, even after we didn't eat it, and he told us: "ya, they're still working on that." Really?? I got the Bison lasagna. Sausage in it was good, but there was hardly any pasta, or cheese in it, it was pretty much a blob of mixed meat, and a bland crème sauce. The wife's lobster Rigazza was bland, lobster was chewy.... Nothing redeeming about it. Got the bill, $120 bucks with tip!!! Never again.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Amazing service and food. Do not drive past this one!! Homemade pasta and sauce is a step above most in the valley. Great wine and don't pass on the focaccia bread.
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
Not since dining in Italy have I had better Italian food. This place is a hidden gem and a must visit if you're in the Donnelly/McCall area.

Heather H.

Yelp
Ragazza never disappoints. Delicious food and great service. Plan ahead they get very busy on the weekends.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Really nice place to eat dinner. Also they are very kid friendly despite being fancy. I had the pea gnocchi and a caesar salad. The gnocchi had a ton of veggies. The caesar salad was very tasty!
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
Small in size, but big on excellent wine, food and service. Enjoyed an excellent meal with friends, caprese and anti pasta salads were fantastic, Decoy Pinot Noir quite tasty, but the 4 entrees were all on point, sea bass special, gnocchi special, chicken Marsala and chicken Alfredo. Tiramisu for dessert was good, not excellent like our entrees. All around good time out.

Marie S.

Yelp
Wow, excellently delicious! ( I'm a foodie, and don't give 5 starts lightly) If you're around Donnelly, Idaho, stop and eat at this restaurant( closed Sunday and Monday). The staff was wonderful too. Jacob was our server and he was very attentive and very nice. We had the specials- chicken with gnocchi(perfectly cooked- soft and delish)and a creamy pesto sauce, and mushrooms fettuccine with a creamy Parmesan sauce- both dishes excellent. We also had the stuffed pepper w/ rice and sausage soup- it was a thick, hearty, almost like spaghetti sauce. Dessert- apple strudel( all deserts are made in house) with cinnamon gelato- Sooo good! Another perk were the modest prices for the food.
google avatar

Yelp
We recently had dinner at Ragazza Di Bufalo when staying nearby in McCall. I am always suspicious when a place has the full 5 stars, but this one lived up to the type and then some! This is excellent Italian food. Menu includes all of the favorites (lasagna, spaghetti, different meats, seafood, etc.) and also has some other great creations. For example, I had lobster tortellini, which was... very very good. The chef came out to ask how our food was which was a great touch. Needless to say, we informed him that it was all incredible. There are several menu specials between 5-6 PM that are all just $10, we tried one and it was fantastic. Portion sizes are not huge, so if you are very hungry I would recommend buying 2 of the $10 items. Bread is fresh and hot. Service was very good. Waiter was helpful and came by the perfect amount of times. Knowledgeable about the food as well, he made some excellent suggestions for us. Anyone staying in Donnelly, McCall, or surrounding area should visit Ragazza Di Bufalo. You will not be disappointed!

Angiee A.

Yelp
This place is awesome!!! The bison lasagne was to die for!!!!! Yummmmmm! Everything on the menu is excellent
google avatar

Yelp
Staying at area ABNB and host recommended. We had a party of 12. The service was great and food excellent. The Bison Lasagna, Short Ribs with Rissoto and appetizers veal meatballs in delicious sauce as well as the flatbread were most notable; but, all were outstanding. The ambiance is also very nice and we had a private area that was also perfect.

Yelp
I read about this place on Yelp and I'm so glad you Yelpers Wrote about it! Great Italian restaurant in small town Idaho. Top notch food. They have a family menu from 5-6, so you can get some good entrees for $10. We had the salmon piccata and the meatball pasta. Everyone here works really hard, is helpful and enthusiastic, they are a great team. Because they aren't getting enough business, they are going to stop serving lunch. So please go here and give them a review!
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
Great food and service. It is a busy restaurant so I'd recommend making a reservation. I've tried both the trout and yak sausage pasta and enjoyed both as well as the flatbread pictured here.

Yelp
First and foremost, thank you for quickly moving to curbside/to-go format during this time. My family had all three entree options last night (Clam and bacon carbonara, mushroom pasta, and the chicken and red bell pepper orrecchiette) and they were fantastic. We are very excited to try your other options in the coming weeks and frequenting the restaurant in the future. We are lucky to have this option in Donnelly.
