Rainbow Hotel

I booked this hotel based on the photos and reviews, but the reality was completely different. The room had a horrible smell, the furniture was very old and worn out, the AC was extremely noisy, and the toilet was not clean. I checked in, went to the room, and left shortly after because I couldn’t stay in those conditions. The hotel refused even a partial refund. Very disappointing experience. Would not recommend.

I would not stay for free in this place.

This is a budget hotel with best advantage of its location. Ferry to go to Zanzibar is a 5 minutes walk. Banks, restaurants, essential shops, super market stores are all within walking distance.|Uber and other taxi options are available in plenty. |Hotel offers a basic breakfast, rooms are clean, with laundry and air conditioning available. I had some issues with the wifi connection after three days. |Front desk is responsive and I got an early check in for which I am grateful.

I’d like to share my experience with this hotel. I understand that the property is older, and the price is very attractive compared to competitors, which initially seemed like a big plus. Unfortunately, the room conditions were disappointing. The main issue was cleanliness – the room wasn’t clean, and worst of all, I noticed cockroaches. In my opinion, this is absolutely unacceptable, no matter the price or standard. I hope the management will take this feedback seriously and address the problem because the place has potential, but hygiene is a basic requirement that cannot be ignored.

Staff during my stay were hospitable and the AC and hot water worked well. However some rooms appeared relatively small, a few had this moldy feel and in one of the rooms I stayed in, strands of a lady's hair were still in the sink. On a positive note, the hotel is located in a safe and calm area of Dar es salaam and from it, I could walk or easily get to key areas of Dar es Salam including restaurants and the sea port to Zanzibar.

When my husbond and I stay in Dar, we stay at the Rainbow. We really like the rainbow because the view is SUPER, the staff are so nice and helpfull, we always meet business people from around East Africa and have interesting talks - AND it is smack in the milde of everything. The harbour is just around the connor, Mnazi Moja where you but texstiles just around the connor, all the good bookstores just around the connor, super restaurant also just around the connor, great concerts at the Slow Leopard only 15 min away. Safe neighborhood and old school Dar vipe.

The Rainbow Hotel is a fantastic place to stay. We had a great experience here. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, the room was affordable and very comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the location can't be beat! After the Airbnb we booked fell through, we wandered into the Rainbow Hotel and they gave us a nice deal. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it!

Pleasantly surprised as had read some bad reviews. We ended up staying twice on our journey through Tanzania. Room was clean, we had good Wifi, plenty hot water for showers, aircon worked, good breakfast, friendly helpful staff. Central location close to the ferry, with good food options nearby. You can leave your luggage too if you have a late flight. Any problems/requests were dealt with quickly. Great views of the city from higher floors. Felt safe out at night. No complaints on our part.
