Ram Tirath Temple, also known as Ram Tirath Ashram, is an important religious and historical site located about 11 kilometers from Amritsar city. It is closely associated with the great Indian epic Ramayana and is believed to be the birthplace of Luv and Kush, the twin sons of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
According to legend, after being separated from Lord Rama, Mata Sita took shelter at the ashram of Maharishi Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana. She lived here for several years and gave birth to Luv and Kush at this place. It is also believed that Valmiki taught them the Ramayana here.
Later, when Lord Rama performed the Ashwamedha Yagna, the sacred horse reached this area. Luv and Kush stopped the horse and defeated Rama’s army. This eventually led to Rama meeting his sons.
Because of these events, Ram Tirath is considered a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus and devotees of Lord Rama.
