On the Grid : Odelay

"A beautiful hidden gem away from town. Odelay is our regular spot for coffee and food. Always fresh, consistent and served with a smile. Allpress coffee is delish. Definitely worth a stop before you hit the airport." - makebardo

The hotel is very basic and reminded me of college dorms. But it's clean, warm and comfortable, and close to the airport for those departing early the next morning. Our family members stay here for a night before early flights. Conveniently located by the supermarket and a strip mall with shops, cafes and restaurants across the parking lot. There's also an eatery inside the hotel. Mountain views all around. The rooms even have a washer/dryer, a kitchenette and a small dining table which is very handy for longer stays.

Stayed here in April 2025 with a friend (mid 30's) for one night before flying to the North Island. It was perfect for us as we were half way done our trip so wanted to do laundry and picked the room that had in suite laundry. Beds were comfy. Shower was clean with good shower pressure. Pretty much a generic hotel, but was nice and good for what we needed it for. Good food/shopping within walking distance. Not overly close to the better part of town, but not far away.

Great little apartment with large comfortable bed. The coffee shop on site is excellent with great coffee and pastries. We had a lovely view of the mountains. It's a little way out of town but there is a regular bus service right outside if you don't want to drive into Queenstown. The Remarkables shopping centre is only a few minutes walk and has plenty of restaurants and a new world supermarket. We were very late arriving due to problems with flights but after calling the hotel while waiting in Auckland they were very helpful and left our room passkey in a lock box outside with instructions sent to us on how to access it. We enjoyed our stay here.

Convenient and nice place to stay near the airport with an easy drive into Queenstown! Only issue we had was the in-room laundry machines weren't working properly, and the AC unit condenser kept blowing ice crystals and not effectively cooling the room. But everything else was fine.

I booked this hotel almost a year ago and it seems a lot has changed. I read some reviews day before check in and unfortunately most of the negative reviews are 100% spot on. Staff are less than enthusiastic and just seem annoyed by the guests mostly. The first floor of rooms smells like moldy cheese, rooms smell musty as well. There’s scuff marks and stains on the floors, walls and some linens. I’m not sure how this place got a 4-star rating. Unless they stole 2 in a game of Mario party. They sure aren’t earned. Most importantly THE PARKING. If you have a car you’re bringing, good luck. May the odds be in your favor. They advertise free parking. What they don’t tell you is the free parking is a 15 space garage under the hotel. It’s first come first serve. If you don’t get a space they’re not really keen to help you. Also the front desk clears out by 8pm. There were at least 5 of us circling the area trying to find parking. All the surrounding side streets have 90 minute parking signs. It’s a nightmare. Only pro was the washer and dryer in the room. I would avoid this place if you can.

I stayed for 1 night in a king 1-bedroom apartment on the first floor (actually 1 floor above the ground/lobby level). If I visited Queenstown again, I'd choose to stay in a different hotel. I picked this accommodation due to to the in-room laundry + the affordable price. The laundry did not disappoint--was appreciative of that. The free underground gated parking was also a good perk. The staff wasn't overly friendly, my room (albeit large) had a very strong off-putting musty odor, and the curtains covering the large sun-facing windows were left open by the cleaning staff prior to my arrival so my room was quite hot and took a long time to cool off when I arrived. Very average hotel--there much nicer options in Queenstown.

I typically don’t leave a review unless I find the conditions of a hotel significantly different than I would expect from prior reviews (ie the rating, for better or worse, seems to be really wrong). This may have been a four star hotel at one point, but it has fallen into significant disrepair and no longer merits that rating. I hate to leave this review. I would really like to see this hotel prosper. I love the model — slightly larger room, well laid out that leaves space for a full kitchenette and washer dryer inside the unit. I wish all hotels had this layout. Unfortunately, this Ramada has not been maintained properly. There are carpet stains everywhere. The carpet is long overdue for a replacement. There are marks on the walls everywhere. The hotel is long overdue for an interior paint job. And there are multiple points of sloppy repairs were the drywall was cut open to replace something in the walls and it was either just left that way or mudded and sanded but never painted. My room should’ve been taken out of use until it was properly repaired. These kind of carpets stains, scuffed up paint, and half done repairs are not acceptable for a four star hotel. Also, I don’t think my towels were clean. They all smelled like smoked Gouda cheese. Lastly, the front desk hours (8 AM to 8 PM) are unacceptably short IMHO. I had a problem with my roommate and there was no one on property to talk to. I observed other people having difficulty checking in both in the evening and again this morning.

Very clean rooms. Excellent and friendly service from the staff. Normal bigger fridge is better, because some rooms only have small bar fridge. More free parking it will be better.
