Ramen 930

If you enjoy eating one giant ball of sticky noodles with tasteless shredded meat on top, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, I was expecting ramen, not a mystery food experiment. One star.

I wanted to your more of the ramen restaurants on salt lake, so I started with this one first. From the makers of cupbop, it is definitely worth a visit. I thought the ramen was great and the service too. I enjoyed the meal, and would definitely go back.

This place was going two stars, but after seeing the pictures of their food they get one. The reason is, because I did not get a normal plate, I got a to-go plate that hardly had any broth, and a to go plate with my Takoyaki. They don't have chili oil or Sriracha, I mean really? Not a great start if the presentation on their advertising is completely different from what you get. But let's talk about the food. I was very disappointed with the broth, it was laking flavor and it tasted as if it came out of a package. The noodles were very bland and no flavor at all either, the mouth feel was weird as well. Over all not worth the zodium spike that you get, and I have had way better ramen from a package store bought one anyway. Their pictures also show a nice piece of charsiu pork. However, I got some.sheded pork from their cupbop place that had no business being there, because it had a different flavor that did not paired well with the broth. The takoyaki was a little better. The flavor was ok, but there was no octopus (tako). Correct me if I am wrong but, tako is half the name.of the dish, so I am sure it needs to be present. Over all, no flavor on the food, ok ambiance, but I won't be going back. I am not trying to be rude at all, I am just providing my honest review. So if you are looking for a good ramen place, keep looking, because this one is not it

Great location situated downtown. Ramen menu is pretty limited but that's okay because then it's easy to order I guess! It's combined with Cupbop so with that the menu is actually quite varied. Personally there are better ramen places downtown but the Korean food selection you get with it is nice!

I'm so upset that on my 4 day stay in salt lake, this place never showed up on my "food near me" search! My wife and I had a couple hours to kill before we left for airport and needed a bite to eat. We we're actually walking to another restaurant when we walked by this place and smelled it... WE MADE THE BEST CHOICE EVER TO EAT HERE!!!! I had the black garlic pork ramen, and I honestly don't know which one my wife had, but they were both the best ramen I've ever had. I instantly started looking to see if this was a chain, and if it was in South Florida. (From what I could find it's not) Now, I'm terribly sad that I have to wait a year to have this again. I also really wanted to try their Korean rice BBQ bowls!! You have to eat at this place not once, not twice, but at least three times when in SLC!!

We got 3 bowls of ramen and each had cold meat cold eggs and the noddles were not full cooked. Even the broth was on the cooler side. Barely any flavor.

With a simple menu, you would think they’d have a better handle on the food. The service here was fine, some kind of clueless high school aged girls but they did an acceptable job and knew the menu. There is only one vegetarian option, and when I got it, it wasn’t prepared as advertised. My partner got the non-broth bowl. Both meals were okay. Nothing wonderful. It was clean enough, our table had napkins propping it up. Just kind of a strange unprofessional operation with bland food so it’s not worth a visit in my opinion. Not at all.

Fast service while visiting SLC. Black garlic was super pungent. Noodles could have been a little looser.

Went there for my daughter's birthday because this was her choice, didn't know this business was recently purchased by Cupbop. The tonkatsu ramen was TERRIBLE: Luke warm broth, came with shredded pork instead of sliced pork; for a minute I thought I was having a tortilla soup at Cafe Rio. Have never seen ramen served with shredded pork! They claimed the broth was cooked for more than 20 hours, I seriously doubt it! Why? I don't think the workers have the bandwidth to babysit it when they ran out of rice and kimchi in the middle of the day. Will never go back again. This is what happens when a business gets too big and too fast, the quality did not exist at all!

Food (3/5) - Tried the Ramen Niku with mild level, and it was pretty hot for me. (For reference, I can eat a shin ramen without much difficulty) The broth was very creamy, fatty, quite heavy and the chashu melted in my mouth with every bite. More on the salty side. Price (4/5) - Pretty generous portion for the price, there are only really 3 options and are 11-13 per bowl. There are sides which we didn't try. Ambiance (3/5) - Cute décor but can be a little cold at times. Counter-serve.

Mid. I was craving ramen and I saw place on some influencers instagram so I came with a friend and was fairly disappointed. The broth was lackluster with flavor, and the egg was definitely over cooked for a ramen place. It comes out in a plastic bowl so just not overall the experience that I wanted. My friend got the spicy option and said it tasted the same as the non spicy option. Plus half the menu was out of stock like the chicken curry ramen... It's an order at the counter kinda thing which is great! But my ramen came out in like 10 minutes and my friends ramen + corn dog took like 25 minutes which is surprising... Ramen 930 is also connected to a CupBop so if you and your friend can't make a decision on what to eat I guess this is a good option. Probably wouldn't come back here again but it was cool to try something new in slc

Food was horrible. The ramen was too salty to eat and the garlic edamame had no flavor whatsoever.

Only has 3 types of ramen. Includes a CupBap. It's like a korean and Japanese fusion. The noodles were a little too thick for my taste. The black garlic ramen broth was not too bad. Good service.

A place for a quick Korean/Japanese fix in SLC. I just needed a quick dinner and happened to pass by this place near to my hotel and decided to give this a shot. So if you're looking for a fast food style rice and noodles bowl with a variety of different toppings and levels of spiciness, this is it! (Ramen is also in the menu but haven't had a chance to try them - maybe it will be my lunch tomorrow :) But the general taste and style is quite different than what I find on the islands back home.

It's like a fast food ramen place, didnt love it. #1 COVIDs over, I hate eating soup in disposal bowls. Hateeee They didn't even have the cool little ramen disposal spoons, just the lane normal spoons. I ate it because I was starving and it had high stars. I would skip this place and try a more authentic ramen place, the prices are about the same but at least you can eat from a real bowl. Staff is fast and efficient

Everything here just slightly off enough where they need to get themselves together. We walked in for lunch and it was confusing on the iPads vs stand in line options. iPad was quicker but there was a ton of options and not every description was quite clear of what exactly the bowl is. I got a bowl with bbq chicken, cabbage, noodles, and sauce. The description did not really set me up with what to expect. There wasn't a ton of rice but more noodles, and they were sweet (sweet potato based which I had no idea). I got sauce level 5, medium, and it was not hot at all. Actually the whole bowl was quite sugary and ended up giving me massive heartburn even though there was no heat. I would go with a higher spice level. The bbq chicken was a grey color that made me feel a little weird. The soda machine was out of syrup for the Diet Dr. Pepper which was sad. My colleague didn't get her kimchi she paid for at first and said her vegetarian ramen was really bland. They also forgot my other colleagues chicken for the ramen and had to bring out a up after. Overall they just need to better describe their dishes and actually follow the options that are printed for them while putting together the meals.

3.5! It's okay. Overly salty broth and wasn't what I had in mind of what pork ramen should be like. The pork was more smoked and shredded versus minced or slices of pork belly like usual ramen is. The restaurant itself was very clean, welcoming, fun, and fast. It wasn't bad, just not what I thought it was going to be.

I remember this place being pretty good a couple of years ago. But, it looks like they've since misplaced their give a damn. I just paid $11.45 for a bowl of the saddest-looking black garlic ramen I've ever seen. Absolutely no black garlic oil, very little mediocre broth, half an egg, and some haphazardly tossed-in pork and bean sprouts. The pictures of the food here must be from some other restaurant. A waste of money. With The Ramen Bar half a block away, you there's no reason I'll ever come here again. You used to care what you served.

I tried the Ramen 930 (Niku) and loved it! I ordered it spicy; it wasn't overwhelming heat. The spice had a good flavor along with it. $14 after tax. Their spoons could definitely be bigger to scoop up all the goodness. I was disappointed to learn they no longer server their curry ramen.

Ramen soup is temperature cold, salty with over cooked noodles. Bad taste. Not recommended.

Black garlic pork, shoyu ramen, and chicken karaage. Read a lot of hype about this restaurant. Visiting Salt Lake City, and saw previous posts on the black garlic pork ramen. Well, so disappointed that the order i was served came with shredded pork that tasted like dry jerky meat. What happened to pork belly slices? My husband's shoyu was same: shredded dry pork meat. The broth did taste as tho' it had been boiling for 20 hours with the same meat - which probably accounts for the over cooked shredded pork taste. The broth could've used more flavoring, but the egg noodles (which were probably packaged) did help a little. The three stars is for the chicken karaage with a condiment serving of mayonnaise (which tasted decent), and the customer service provided by the nice young staff members. ...we'll be returning to eat here again during our brief stay in this city only if we're desperate.

Just needed something hot and this did the trick. Surprised to find a "fast" ramen but this was such a great and quick place to get a good fix!

Really wish they used regular serve-ware instead of disposable. I liked the seaweed salad and takoyaki. Ramen was a little disappointing. Soup was warm, not hot, chicken was a bit dry. Wish it was pork belly instead. Price was reasonable.

Yeah, not so good. I ordered the niku ramen spicy and my coworker ordered the miso. The noodles were okay but the pork was so salty and the broth was not hot. So disappointed since we saw the 4 star rating. We also noticed the health violations score 19, yikes. Not my first choice or second or even third for ramen. Sorry.

Solid place. It's a really cute and clean restaurant that serves different ramen, appetizers, and now Cupbob which was a nice added surprise. I tried two of their ramen, the black garlic and the niku ramen. I liked the broth of the niku ramen better but didn't like the meat. The spice was too overwhelming but enough that you can feel the kick. I would recommend asking them to sub the ground meat on the Niku ramen for pork slices that is served with the black garlic ramen for the best of the two. I'm not sure if it's personal preference but the ground meat was too charred for my liking. I also tried the kaarage that was okay but definitely skippable. Overall I think this was a solid fast-casual ramen joint with good service. With minor changes I think the ramen can be 5 stars. I adder

Been seeing this place and wanted to go try it for the longest. Well we finally just decided to walk in cause all the other ramen places was packed. Ramen 930 shared a space with cupbob or maybe they are one of the same? I was a bit confused. I went for ramen so I went ahead and ordered ramen. I got their spicy ramen. One thing I didn't understand was the attitude of some of the workers here. Why would you question someone's choice of adding toppings? I wanted extra meat and mushroom on my ramen, but the girl at the counter was extremely offended that I wanted that. She asked me if I knew that the ramen came with those. When I finally got my ramen the broth and everything was just your standard ramen. Anything special? Not really. Anything needed to know? The noodles doesn't have much of a chew and if you like spicy, order spicy...add the chilly powder. Ramen 930 is meh for me. It is a quick place to grab a quick dinner or lunch if you're in downtown and in a hurry.

I personally think all their ramen and appetizers are mediocre at most. Let me preface by saying how nice the casual atmosphere is. You order, the staff brings you your food, and you put the bowls away when you're finished. The service is good and you get your food pretty fast. The food, however, lacks. The gyoza is hard to chew and the skin is very stale. The ramen broth is either bland or very oily. The first couple sips are good, but you get tired of it almost immediately. The noodle is cooked alright, nothing to complain about there. The pork was overcooked and tasted burnt just as other reviewers have said. There could also be more veggies and other ingredients in the ramen as well. A few bites in and I only had ramen left in my bowl. After being here three times, I'm confident to say that I won't come back again. Jinya is where it's at.

Black Garlic Pork Ramen had delicious broth and noodles, but that alone is not worth the $11 price tag that goes along with it. I was not impressed with the pork chasu. It was far fattier and tasteless than what I'm used to. I ended up removing it from my ramen. My coworker and I walked over together. She stated that it was a 4/10 for her, so I feel a little generous with my 3 stars! The wait was over 30 minutes at 1PM on a Friday. It was good and I would go back, I just feel like I definitely overpaid for what I got. I'd also avoid the pork next time.

I really wanted to like this place, but everything here fell short. When you walk in, there's a counter you can order from or four different kiosks to choose from if you're paying with a card. I appreciated that the kiosk came with photos so you know what to order, but the process is tricky. Keep an eye out for your total if you're adding on Mandoo or a drink, even if you unselect some items, it will reselect a fountain drink, be aware! When my friends and I took a seat at the table, an individual came out to let us know they were missing "something" that was in our ramen. They did a poor job to explain what exactly was missing (not sure if they were new) but we had to choose between spicy pork and coco chicken as a replacement. When we asked for a recommendation, they said they've never tried either so they don't know what's better. Interesting. We all chose spicy pork. Once you finish ordering, you sit at a table and a food runner will call out your name. When the person brought out our food, my black garlic ramen had no black garlic oil, so we had to let them know. Then, after we brought it back, we realized that every add-on I added to my bowl was missing too - extra egg, extra corn, extra green onions, and the spice that I paid for. When my boyfriend got his order, the same thing happened. He was missing his extra pork, extra egg, extra onions, and extra corn. This place definitely needs a better expo worker to double-check orders before running them out. How can you charge people for add-ons but not even check if it's in the bowl before you run it out? Can't imagine what ordering togo is like. A few minutes pass by and I realize we didn't get our karaage chicken. So I ask the worker if we can still get it and they bring it out. He apologizes because the kitchen is "so busy". The chicken itself - is decent, but it's served with a tartar sauce? Don't recommend it. All the ramen bowls are served in plastic containers that are filled about halfway, and their ramen spoons aren't even soup spoons. They're plastic spoons that can barely pick up the broth. At the end of my meal, I checked my receipt and realized that we added two orders of the mandoo potstickers to our meal and did not get it. I asked if we could get a refund on it since we were already finished with our food and had a flight to catch. The guy apologized to me and said, "oh sorry, that's my fault I didn't bring it out with your order". Obviously. He spoke to some girl who was midbite in her meal and asked her if I could get a refund. She said she couldn't do it because it was a part of a meal. Offered me ice cream instead of fulfilling my refund, but I didn't want it. Wouldn't recommend this place at all. Decent food. Had to constantly check and ask for my proper order. Lazy workers. Poor conflict management. Spend your $50 elsewhere.

I gotta say, if you want ramen, there are better places in the area. The service was great, the food was hot, the people were friendly, the karaage was EXCELLENT, but I can't say I enjoyed the ramen. Its just me, but I prefer my green onions cut perpendicular to the grain (think of little rings) instead of the slivers you get, I thought the noodles were more like egg noodles than ramen noodles. The broth was delicious, and the egg was great, but the shredded pork in my miso ramen wasn't...all that great. If alls I wanted was karaage, I'd come back, but no ramen for me here.

If you're looking for a good quick meal then Ramen930 is your place! We got there 30 minutes before closing on a week night and yet we were greeted with a smile and a willingness to help us with the menu. We both ordered the black garlic ramen with thin noodles and chicken Karrage. Delivered to our table in a timely manner - large chunks of black garlic and char sui pork swimming in a flavorful steamy broth. Broth was very good - black garlic even better - noodles ok. - I'm hopeful noodle texture will improve but then when any noodles swimming in a tase broth you're almost there. For a quick late bite this worked for us and we will try their other ramen another time. I loved the chicken Karrage - It reminded me of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) served hot and crispy and it will be ordered again. This is Ramen930's new restaurant downtown and is very busy during lunch time but they are good at getting food out quickly. The restaurant is clean and large and location is easy to get to and parking isn't too bad in the evenings.

It just wasn't good food. 6 of us ate there and nobody liked their food. The kimchi was very fishy tasting and it tasted like they put Mayonnaise in their noddle bowls. They were also out of Raman and potstickers today, so I'm not sure if their are good or not. We all had the noodle bowls; we would never go back. We didn't even finish our food, and ended up throwing the vast majority of it away.

Used to go here all of the time it was wonderful. After covid started they diversified to cupbop, thier ramen has suffered greatly in quality. I see this as being due to them trying to streamline the ingredients to use the same things they are in the cupbop. The end result is an inferior product that always comes out far colder then it should. It also the advertising, menu, combos, and atmosphere seem like they are actily trying to avoid making and selling ramen. They should rename themselves to cupbop 930 and stop selling ramen. Go around the corner to ramen bar if your looking for a good bowl. This place is basicly a cupbop shop now.

Really great ramen! I got the spicy pork (NIKU) ramen and it was really delicious! The broth is so flavorful and full of different textures. The mushrooms and the bean sprouts were delicious in the broth, and the spices were spot on. The protein is a bit tough, but some pieces are okay. I really enjoyed the flavors here and was decently surprised at how spicy the medium spice was. The kimchi dumplings were a miss for me, but the potstickers here are pretty solid. Overall, GREAT ramen. Really delicious ramen broth. The protein was average, but everything else was amazing in it! I will definitely be back for more ramen!

I have been wanting to try a ramen place and I have to say it wasn't for me. But just because I personally didn't like it doesn't mean that you won't! It's a fun location and the people who worked there were super nice!

They give you a lot of food, plenty of meat and noodles. But the flavor is almost non-existent compared to the spice in the Niku Ramen. The spice overtook the flavor, and I love spice. This dish is flavorless. I'd only come back if I had a container of salt to add flavoring.

I've tried pretty much everything on the menu here, and it ranks as a solid ramen spot. I've only had takeout so I can't speak much to the interior. Pretty standard fare as far as a ramen joint goes, but what I think is their star item is the Fried Chicken, so crispy yet still tender. One thing tho - their Pork Chasu is not actual chashu I would avoid that, it is more like shredded pork prepared with chashu seasonings. My recommendation is the fried chicken with either the Niku Ramen or Curry Ramen.

I'm no ramen connoisseur but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be better than this. It was bland and pretty boring. Not much in it but pork and an egg. It wasn't necessarily that it was bad. It just wasn't very good and so I have no desire to eat here again.

A great fast-food type ramen in South Lake Union, We ordered black garlic ramen and niku. Love the black garlic ramen, but the niku tasted okay. We expected the niku ramen to have beef in it. Because I thought niku means beef in Japanese? Great service and long lines! Recommended, if you are in a hurry and crave for something fast, Asian, and soupy

My friend and I came here during lunch time and it was busy! This place is located right smack in the middle of downtown Salt Lake City, so during lunch time, it's going to be packed with a bunch of business people! I ordered ramen and we shared two appetizers. To be honest, I enjoyed the appetizers more than I did the ramen. The ramen just wasn't as memorable. However, the appetizers were 10/10. I'm a huge fan of takoyaki and I also loved the Japanese Style fries. Just the perfect amount of sauce and it didn't make the fries soggy either. This was a great one-time try place, not too bad, kinda pricey though.

Discussed my sons egg allergy with the employee. They assured us he could eat it. He got very very very sick minutes after leaving the restaurant. Warning to anyone with allergies. They do not have an allergic menu and their employees are not educated in the ingredients.

BEWARE! Food poisoning here!!! I tried this place for the first time yesterday. While eating it, the flavors were good. Although, I will never return back. This place is not sanitary or safe to eat at. Upon eating the garlic pork ramen last night, I've been terribly sick with food poisoning. Do NOT trust this place. Their quality is obviously not good as I'm sick.

Found the location on Yelp and decided to give it a try: I give it a 3 star rating is for my tonkotsu ramen that I ordered. They have a sign on their window saying that they boil the pork bone for over 20 hours for the broth. The broth had good flavor but the problem was that it was lukewarm. Ramen broth should be super hot. You know where you start sweating just putting your face over the bowl. The noodles had a good bite. Instead of the typical chaushu, they had some shredded/pulled meat, I think it was pork. The green onions on top seemed to have been in the fridge awhile in that they seemed a little dry. My boss would rate it 2 stars for the rice bowl that he ordered. He ordered a bowl which is a version of the bibimbap (sp?). It had a rice, noodles, cabbage, protein, and sauce (you can choose heat level from 1-10). The first thing was that the fried chicken (like kara-age) on the bowl was cold. Shouldn't this be something that they cook to order? The sauce was a mayo based one that is put on top of the bowl.

We have eaten the ramen here a few times, which is solid for the price! The gyoza is great too. One thing that they can do is to get Asian soup spoons - whether it's the porcelain ones or the disposable ones. The spoons that come with the ramen are super small and rounded, making it extremely difficult to place any ramen in it or pick up any soup. I think that would make eating the ramen much more enjoyable.

Hunny you know I love a good bowl of ramen so get ready for this review! Atmosphere: phew! This place is so cute! You walk in and there's all this artwork, cute little bowls and sayings on the wall in Korean. The menu is easy to understand and the music inside set me at ease! Food: I got the veggie ramen and a side of the Japanese style fries along with a drink for a comb price of about $18. The fries were yummy and even though I don't like mayo it was pretty good! It didn't rock my world, but it was a good start to the meal. I got extra of the brown sauce, it had a sweet salty taste to it. The ramen surpassed my expectations. The shirt broth was full of flavor, the veggies still crisp and fresh. I do wish that the tofu was fried first for a bit of feature difference in the bowl. The noodles. Yummmmm okay look- noodles are so essential to ramen for me- they had a great consistency and there was a good amount! Halfway through I was still able to find noodles in the bowl and that made me so happy. Thick egg noodles for the win. And the egg- who!!! Seasoned. Browned. Fire. I had such a good experience at Ramen 930. The two women at the counter were so sweet and they answered all the questions I had, and even explained the ingredients to me. I promise you I will be back for more

I really liked the place. It's sort of an express ramen joint, which is not quite a hole in the wall, but fars very low on the trendy side of things. They just added Cupbop to the same location, so you kind of get a 2-for-1 options there if you're not after ramen, or your group has split Asian preferences. We stopped in on a chilly night which is honestly the way to do it. You order at the counter and then take your number and take your seat. I got a regular tonkotsu and my family member got a spicy ramen. I got the combo, which was chicken karaage plus a drink. I really dug the flavor. I didn't try much of the spicy, but the regular pork tonkotsu had that rich, creamy, deep flavor you hope for. The portions weren't too big, but they didn't seem smaller than normal. Average size, I guess. For me, the only off-putting part is that for one bowl of ramen on its own, and one in a "combo" we ended up paying $37. I don't think ramen should be given away--if you want the grocery store crud then just go there--but $37 is probably a tough pill for me to swallow with any regularity.

While walking around downtown Salt Lake City, I stumbled upon a row of Asian restaurants. A quick look at Yelp and I saw how well this place rated. Thank you again Yelpers for helping an out of towner find another great place to eat. The decor here is definitely hip with happy music playing. The tables were filled with twenty somethings eating and discussing everything from their favorite Marvel movie to the joys of using a sledge hammer to take down a wall. I loved the vibe while waiting and trying to figure out what to order. The menu is simple if you order from the Ramen 930 side but you do have a choice of items from the Cupbop Signature menu too. Tough decisions right off the bat but I came in wanting ramen so I stuck with it. Great decision on my part. The spicy Niku ramen was amazingly flavorful while still be very spicy. I went through A LOT of napkins to wipe away the tears and running nose. But even in the end, I could taste the flavors of the broth and ingredients. The hotness did not numb the tongue. The sides looked good and I settled for the Takoyaki which is deep fried squid balls that are light and fluffy unlike the denser Chinese kind. I really enjoyed Ramen 360's version of this.

Pork in the ramen was shredded, which gave the ramen a weird texture... every mouthful lacked "bite" with something firmer because the meat was mushy. Not my favorite combination. Japanese-style fries were $4.50 for plain fries drizzled with hoisin sauce and bonito flakes, which was also a strange combination and not worth the price paid upfront. Overall a weird dining experience. This will likely be my first and last time visiting this location for ramen.

So, as far as ramen goes this place is pretty good. Not 5 star fresh noodles like some Udon spots that I crave daily, but good ramen with fresh ingredients. The place is part of Cupbop and has a few of the food truck items that are standard, the only difference, it's in a downtown location. Will I be back? Yes. Will I try it with more spice next time. Yes, the 5 was not as hot as I thought it would be. (Yes, you can add head to the ramen and a few other items)... I guess I should have mentioned that earlier.

This is the longest I have ever waited for food IN MY LIFE, and quite possibly the first review I have ever written because the service was THAT. BAD. Over an hour for a nearly "fast-food" style restaurant. We waited 20+ mins, asked for an update and were told it would be a while (but not why). Waited another 20 mins, asked again and they said 5mins. Another 15 mins later finally got ONE of our two food items. Split the one we got, asked the employee (who was using his cell phone) to make mine to go and he ASKED WHAT I ORDERED (clearly had forgotten). Waited ANOTHER 10+ mins and finally decided we'd ask for a refund because we didn't want to waste more of our day waiting. Not a SINGLE employee would acknowledge us or make eye contact and when they finally brought out the food (without making eye contact), we had to ask them once again to put it in a to-go container. Not to mention, meanwhile 50+ plus patrons and various to go orders came and went and we were STILL at this freaking restaurant! Never ever going back. Clearly the management needs to retrain their employees on how to interact with customers, acknowledge mistakes, and try to offer accommodations.

Ramen 930 now serves cupbop (unsurprisingly since it's the same owners). Has the "hot bop" here and it tastes the same as the food truck they have. Pretty good quick "Americanized" korean food. They do use the food in sweet sauce (not a bad thing, just something to be aware of). When I'm craving a rice bowl, there's not much else around downtown-- glad to have this as an option.

Place is always good. Love that it's shredded pork instead of pork slab. Kid loves it too

I had a layover at SLC for about 4 hours, and rather than sit in the airport the whole time I figured I'd get out and get some ramen. Of course, when I get there I have to wait a half hour for it to open. (The hours posted on Yelp were incorrect; I submitted a photo of the hours for an update. In case you're wondering, they close on weekdays at 14:30 and reopen at 17:00.) Once I did finally get in, there was already a small line at the register within a couple minutes after opening. Good sign, right? They offer a great combo deal of ramen, a side, and regular-sized fountain drink for $16.50. It's a really good deal. So I ordered myself a Black Garlic Pork Ramen, Takoyaki (Fried Octopus Balls), and drink. I also ordered extra Chashu (Roasted Pork) in my ramen for an additional $2.50. On the surface, all of this seemed good. Looking at the reviews you would think this is the best place in the state to buy ramen, but I'm going to be that asshole and say there is probably better elsewhere. Yes, I was disappointed in my meal. Honestly, I didn't feel bad telling the co-owner that when he walked around the floor asking how everything was. Of course, most people said it's good. Whether they honestly thought it was good or they were being polite, it doesn't matter to me. And I don't mean to sound like a self-entitled douche, but I grew up in Japan and ate ramen at least once a week for over a decade. I'm a snob for the stuff. So when he asked I told him I thought it'd be better. I asked about what went into the broth and he told me it was the very basic stuff: pork bones, water. I asked about vegetables and fish and he said they did use them. He also said they got advice from a ramen shop owner in Japan. Personally, I think they should either fire the Japanese ramen shop owner, or make sure their recipe is on point before serving any more. I felt cheated and that taxi cost me money! To start, the broth was bland. I always start by having a spoonful of the broth from about the middle of the bowl and into the top layer. I can't remember the last time I didn't have flavor in that first sip. It tasted very watered down. Fortunately, as I got further into the bowl, the soup thickened (towards the bottom) and there was good flavor down there. But that flavor and consistency should be there from the top layer down. The broth really does make or break a bowl of ramen. Maybe boiling it longer to thicken it, and adding more of whatever they through in the pot will give it better, richer flavor. (I wish I could see what they were doing back there...) I'm not sure what their thick noodles are but I chose the thin noodles when asked at the register. I don't know if they meant 'udon' for the thick noodles or the ones I actually chose. I had also asked if the thick ones were the egg-based noodles and the cashier said both noodles were egg-based. Either way, the noodles I had were not thin. I guess what I was looking to see was if the thin noodles I chose were the Fukuoka/Hakata, thin and straight-style ramen made of wheat flour or rice flour but no egg. They also offered kale noodles... It might've been worth trying that out. The 'chashu' (pork) was not chashu; it was bacon. I really hope they're not trying to pass off seasoned and torched bacon as true chashu! It tasted burnt and didn't have much flavor, which is disappointing because it's gat damn bacon! They're better off just cooking it plain in the oven and throwing it into the bowl as a topping NOT called 'chashu'. This wasn't at all worth paying the extra couple dollars. For the side dish, the 'takoyaki' was tasty. Hot and with a nice chunk of octopus in the middle. The balls were more of a deep-fried type than the kind cooked in the greased skillet molds. Still, not a bad way to start the meal... This is a nice spot in a good part of town, but they have to step their game up. A broth boiling for 24 hours doesn't mean anything to me if it doesn't taste good, thus ruining the bowl.

Finally a new delicious ramen downtown!! It's literally less than a block away from my office which doesn't help you but is badass for me. Just opened so it's super bright and clean. 15 tables plus bar seating around the walls/windows. Their menu has just enough extras to keep things interesting but not so much that it's over whelming. 7 types of ramen plus a soba (soupless option). 11 side dishes and 4 don buri (rice) bowls and you have endless options. Go for the combo and you get a side, a bowl of ramen and a drink for $16.50. It's a ton of food. The ramen is standard size with a generous helping of noodles. I did notice that the noodles seemed thicker than most places I've been. I could have used more charsur pork but that was my only real complaint. I got the black garlic pork sans bean sprouts and it was phenomenal. Great flavor and not overly greasy. It came with mushrooms, green onions, half a perfectly cooked egg, sea weed, charsur, and of course noodles and soup. Absolutely delicious. For $0.50 more you can make it spicy. Be warned the hot is HOT. Not Utah hot like real hot. I didn't even bother trying JeremyF's because he dumped the whole little container of hot sauce in his. We also got the fries. Which were ok. I like the fish flakes on top. It wasn't super special but there are so many other sides to try I'm not worried. Overall a great addition to the downtown food. Oh and they're fast. Perfect for a work lunch.

For me, a restaurant review has 3 components, the experience, the service and the food. Let's start with the experience. All and all, it was a nice restaurant. As someone who is 6'5", the tables were a bit small for my comfort and seating 3 people at a table meant for 4 was tight. Several of the tables were wobbly. I saw one group get a bunch of napkins and place them under a foot of their table to stabilize it. FanX was in town when we went and the place was busy. There were three different walls that contained information about the menu. That was a bit confusing since the walls all had slightly different information, all needed to make an informed decision. The service was fast and efficient. The servers were all friendly and helpful. The Coke was out in the fountain and that wasn't attended to while I was there. Had to settle for Dr. Pepper. Finally, the food. I was wearing a suit and knew that ramen could be a bit messy. One of the guys in my party ended up getting drops of ramen up and down his shirt. I ended up getting the Chicken Katsu rice bowl. The salad had some wilted leaves in it, so that wasn't very appetizing. The fried chicken was a bit overdone and a bit dry. The flavors were there, just not the moisture. Maybe I should have sacrificed a clean shirt for a better meal.
