The Best Hotels in Cancún, Mexico, From Classic Resorts to Modern Luxury | Condé Nast Traveler

"Here the beach—and the views—are the main attraction at a 274-room resort on the Yucatán Peninsula; book one of the eight penthouse suites for outdoor living rooms and sweeping Caribbean vistas. Beyond the scenery there are three colossal infinity pools, two beaches well stocked with loungers, and six restaurants: Ramona is a favorite for clean, contemporary Mexican cuisine (think lobster bisque with mezcal sauce), while La Punta Grill showcases a tender, expertly salted flank steak as a standout." - Lissa Poirot

Yelp
I didn't enjoy the food here, the service was fine. Fine and the price of admission is not on par with one another. Restaurant is beautiful but my cauliflower steak was a 10.00 dish nothing to get excited about.

Yelp
Tucked away on the beach front with dim lighting it makes the perfect ambiance for a night of relaxation and good dinning. The service was fantastic and attentive to every detail especially when it came to allergies. The food tasting was an experience that could be worth it if you have the extra money. At the beginning some fun instant bites were brought out in a box. One was said to taste like a mini quesadilla and it did. Honestly if it could be packaged and zapped in the microwave I would eat it daily. The crudo was just the right amount us flavor combination with the tortilla chips. The foie gras on the other hand was too much unseasoned liver for my liking. The fish had great flavor at first but after a couple of bites I was glad that the palate cleaners was next to the beef short rib was a high point of the meal with mole covering it. The dessert was a show that should be left for the reader to discover. Overall if you want an authentic tasting of the regionally cuisine this is the best option even though I wished for more flavor for some of the dishes. Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Food: 3

Yelp
My man + I recently spent a week at this amazing resort. During our stay, we tried all of Nizuc's restaurants and were impressed by each one, but Ramona's was definitely a highlight. I must share that we were there in early October which is, for some strange reason, the low season. We were told the resort was only 20-25% capacity, so perhaps we felt so special because there were so few guests. However, I get the impression Nizuc (and all its restaurants) go out of their way to provide an insane level of service regardless of season. Everywhere you go - Ramona's included - you are greeted by name. We had no fewer than 3 servers and were the only couple in the restaurant after 8pm. Nary a sip was taken without someone immediately refilling our glass. As for the food: utter perfection. To start, we were presented with a lovely array of bread options that were each amazing. For two people who don't eat a ton of carbs, we could have eaten our weight in a wonderful pastry with mushrooms. We then shared the Manchamantel appetizer, which is foie gras with a spectacular Mexican mole - highly recommended! For our main course, the man enjoyed the grilled chicken and I ravished a filet (with more foie gras on top). My filet was cooked to perfection and the foie gras/filet flavor combination was unexpectedly delightful. We could not pass up the traditional churros for dessert, which is served with 3 dipping sauces: coconut, eggnog, and chocolate. Being a complete chocoholic, I was surprised to find the eggnog sauce was my favorite! Our primary server spent a great deal of time answering our many questions about what we were eating, the best places to visit in Cancun, future cities we should visit in Mexico, etc. Overall, our experience was outstanding. B O T T O M L I N E : Go! Very bougie but worth every penny!

Yelp
Phenomenal. I ate dinner at Ramona twice during my one week stay at Nizuc. The first dinner experience was on a Saturday night. We tried a few different cocktails, and I don't remember their names (mostly margaritas) and they were all delicious. The waiter presents you with different bread options, all of which were good though the jalapeño bread was spicy. The octopus appetizer (pictured) was especially good. I ordered the lobster entree which was excellent. It came on a bed of rice and beans with a side of flour tortillas, essentially to make tacos from. The churro dessert came as a variety of three different sauces to dip the churros in, along with a small cup of mocha coffee. Personally, the eggnog churro sauce was the best. On Saturday nights they have mariachi, and the entertainers will serenade you tableside. Service was excellent. The restaurant overlooks the Caribbean Sea. Five stars all around.

Yelp
My husband and I had an amazing experience at Ramona Restaurant. The ambiance, the food, the service! The entire experience was amazing! We stayed at the resort for two days and I am glad we choose this restaurant to have dinner. I wish we can have the same restaurant in Los Angeles or Orange County! Amazing experience!

Yelp
This restaurant has a beautiful ambience. A combination of classic Mayan Mexican dishes with a very modern twist in the presentation of the food, and the complementary tastes that we experienced on this culinary journey. We were a group of six, and were all very pleased with the dishes that we ordered! The food was not only artfully presented but the tastings were perfect!! Throughout our meal, the chef offered us small "amuse bouches" that were artfully arranged and gave each of us a fresh perspective on traditional Mexican food. The desserts should NOT be missed!! Be sure to leave some room for these beautiful and tasty treasures!!

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside the Nizuc Resort. The resort is insane, very private and luxurious. This place should be reserved for special occasions - think nyc/london prices! I highly recommend making a reservation here, they are on open table. Before letting you enter the resort, they verify that you have a reservation. Once you get to the restaurant you are greeted (by name) and escorted to your table. You are assigned a personal waiter for the rest of your meal. We had our main waiter +3 other people serving (one for wine, new plates, clearing plates). The service is impeccable here. The menu is very straight forward, lots of fish dishes and some meats. I recommend the trio ceviche, lots of layers of great flavors. Also they have some rotating tuna and salmon dishes. The tuna dish is pretty much raw tuna, be aware of that if you order. The salmon dish is cooked in traditional spices with some great flavors. They have a huge wine list. They bring an ipad to the table and you can filter the wine by type/location/brand/etc... Overall it was a great experience and worth coming to this place. They are attentive to every detail and make your dinner pleasurable.

Yelp
Classy restaurant with modern high end Mexican food in a gorgeous resort. The amuse-bouche was a great little sandwich, quasadilla ball and pumpkin seed hummus which were all quite good. There were three types of bread, one with cheese and peppers that was unique and tasty, with local olive oil and seasoned butter. We had the local pumpkin appetizer which was very pretty but not overly flavorful. Then we shared the eggplant barbacoa and beef & chichilo which were both great. To finish we had churros with three sauces and hot chocolate. They also gave us a chocolate dipped plantain with raspberry powder and on the way out a small bag with two chocolates. The service was excellent with multiple attentive servers that shared helpful recommendations about the food and tequila we tried. Definitely a great experience.

Yelp
I'm not sure why every restaurant in Cancun requires reservation only to show up and find an empty restaurant most of the time. But this is one of those that require a reservation and sure enough it was mostly empty. This is a modern take on Mexican cuisine. The chef is talented. The bread selection was exquisite. Jalapeño bread must try. Main courses we tried were not memorable other than the portions were small. I mean trout dish was basically 2 small strips of fish... Service was okay not great. However they do give females gifts on way out. If you are in the area would try it again but not sure would fly around world to come back.

Yelp
Ambiance and music was nice but waiters were over baring. I would not recommend it and would not go back. Food was less than ok. Way over priced mexican food. Food looked cool but didnt do much else and for my husband "all the food was tiny" and left him hungry and left us with a huge bill!!

Yelp
I would have selected 0 stars if it was an option... My family and I are staying at a different resort but decided to venture out and visit Nizuc for dinner. We used Open Table to book our reservation, the only times available were after 7:30pm. We arrived and were greeted by several waiters, and a female hostess. Immediately, the hostess informed us that the restaurant had a strict dress code, men were to wear long pants and collared shirts and women must wear close-toed shoes. This was not noted anywhere on Open Table. We were about to walk out and the hostess stopped us and explained she would make an exception for us since we came from another hotel but to "be careful if we needed to use the restroom because someone might see" implying that they didn't want us to be seen by anyone else since we weren't in proper dress code attire. We should have left at that point. We walk in, 7:30pm on a Friday night, the entire place completely empty. Not one other patron. The whole hour and a half we were there, no one. We sit down at the table and the hostess asks if we want a kids menu (LOL my baby is 2 months old). Fast forward to the menu/ordering our meal. Amongst us we ordered the lobster and the catch of the day which was a breaded flounder served with "mashed potatoes". We each take a bite of the flounder and immediately think "Long John Silvers" - no flavor, no seasoning, just a dry fish stick. The mashed potatoes were a thin layer of potatoes spread paper thin along the plate with peas on top, served cold. The lobster was chewy, like it had been boiled in water all day long. It's safe to say we will never be back to this restaurant. Maybe we should have taken a hint when we were the only people there our entire meal. Good thing, someone might have seen us in our flip flops!

Yelp
Not sure how this Resaurant has anything less than 5 stars. The staff is incredible, the ambiance great and the food is the best we have ever eaten in Cancun. Our experience at Ramona was so good that we are changing our next trip to Mexico from camp to Cancun and staying at the Nizuk.

Yelp
Ramona was by far the best meal we had while staying at Nizuc. Very upscale Mexican cuisine with an impressive wine list and incredible service. I will definitely return to this restaurant if I stay in Cancun again. Not to be missed...

Yelp
We dined here last year and it was simply fantastic, and we were looking forward to coming back to Cancun so we could eat here again. A new chef. Such a disappointment. The restaurant is tucked away at the end of the peninsula at a resort where rooms start at $670US a night. It's gorgeous there. But now, just so sadly ordinary. Fried breaded flounder at $30? Tough lobster at $45? The only dish we had that was any good was a tuna and watermelon appetizer that was nicely presented and very tasty. Otherwise, don't go. Dinner for two with one glass of wine each with tip came to $160US.

Yelp
This has to now be the best restaurant in the Cancun area. The hotel/restaurant itself is beautiful. A great place for a romantic or special occasion meal, or an any occasion meal if you are a food person and want something really exceptional. Talk about modern Mexican !! The chef has a perfect touch with local flavors and ingredients- a fois gras stuffed tamal, rock shrimp 'meatballs', a drink of mexacito and tamarind. So many flavors and spices but all of them with a subtle touch. It isn't a cheap meal but it is well worth the expense to have a really world class restaurant in cancan. I have never written a review before but felt I had to this time because this restaurant needs to thrive. It takes a bit of effort to get there but you won't regret it. Highly, highly recommended,
