Seven of us had a late lunch here last Saturday.
Annapolis was crowded for the Gun March, and we saw a lot of the marchers in the restaurant, so maybe the Rams Head Tavern was busier than it would have been for a normal March Saturday afternoon? So maybe the service we encountered here was adversely affected, along with the Annapolis traffic and parking?
So besides the long waits for food, and befuddled servers wandering around (plates in hand) trying to locate the owner of the plate, we had a very nice lunch here. The food was very good.
We ordered a variety of sandwiches and burgers and appetizers, and honestly, everything looked great. I mooched a fried pickle slice from my friend to the right and thought it was very good -a nice combination of crunch on the outside and salty fresh pickle on the inside. The menu description was ''Crisp dill pickle chips dipped in locally brewed Fordham beer batter, fried golden. Served with housemade ranch.
$8.95''. Here's what it looked like https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Nv0x5oaEtvgkgV4PwmYcQQ&userid=cVrM2BvOvPV0Vi_rC8kepQ
My same friend to my right ordered a Tuna Tower - a real beauty of a dish - Marinated raw tuna, cucumber, tomato, avocado, seaweed salad, coconut wasabi and Sriracha. Served with crisp fried wontons. $12.95 https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7jBhATNrVfbQaMRYKdKPlQ&userid=cVrM2BvOvPV0Vi_rC8kepQ
I ordered a Salad Fresca and loved it! How does this sound ' 'Mixed greens tossed in pineapple mango vinaigrette topped with jumbo shrimp, grilled watermelon and pineapple, roasted pears, strawberries, candied cayenne cashews and feta cheese. $13.95' '. For my beverage I went into their vast brewery choices and selected a Taste of the Taps flight. It was a sampler of six beers. Some of the beers were badly under-filled, and when I mentioned this to our server, she kind of shrugged her shoulders and said ' 'Oh well' '.
The beers were good, all of them. Lightweight Lager, Grapefruit Ale (I loved that one), Oak Barrel Stout, Copperhead Ale, Gypsy Lager, and a Seasonal.
There were plenty of plusses at the Ram's Head Tavern. The food was great, the menu was huge, and the beer choice was gigantic.
But the service was definitely 'off', at least on the afternoon of our visit. I forgot to add that my friend to my left, who also ordered a salad didn't get a roll like I did with mine. We had to ask for it. Of course, the menu said all salads came with a roll.
So maybe this was a one-time occurrence of substandard service? But that's the difference between 3 and 4 stars in my book.
