Our stay here was fantastic. The grounds were beautiful, it was quiet, and we saw wildlife both right outside our room and around the grounds. The staff was all very accommodating and helpful, especially William who went above and beyond to give us recommendations, book our tours, and overall just made us feel very welcome and at home. I would love to come back here someday.

Cerro Azul rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly and aims to please. Gardens are beautiful to walk around and enjoy. It has a great location to base your La Fortuna stay. I reduced to 4 stars as our room was right next to road which was quite noisy, and we also had some bats in our room.

What a fantastic spot! My wife and I have been heading to Costa Rica since the early 90s, and Rancho Cerro Azul brings back memories of those classic family-run hotels from back in the day. William and Andres were amazing hosts and really made our stay a blast. We stayed in cabin #9 right by the river, and honestly, it was perfect. You feel like you're right in the heart of the forest while kicking back on the balcony. Breakfast at the restaurant was top-notch, and happy hour at the bar with Isaac and Kenneth? Absolutely a must! We can't wait to come back!

The accommodations are a good value. Staff was very accommodating and attentive. The location is excellent and close to the area attractions and to town. Breakfast is a bit pricey but was good. If you go to bed early then ask to stay in a cabin that is not right near the bar.

We booked Hotel Rancho Cerro Azul based on the high review and the availability of a family cabin with 3 beds. We stayed in the family cabin (Room 10). ||The Good;|- The staff was very nice, |- rooms are nice (maybe a little out dated), |- location is near La Fortuna but far from most activities|||- Extremely Loud. Use of motorcycles has exploded in Costs Rica. Cerro Azzul is right by the road. Imagine listening to motorcycles all night because that the case for any hotel right next to a primary road |- Beds are hard. Imagine a bed of cardboard topped with an egg crate cushion.

My husband and I we stayed at Rancho Cerro Azul in February 2025 during our honeymoon in Costa Rica. We really liked the hotel, but on the last morning when we were packing I couldn’t find a painting that I had bought as a souvenir. I had left it on the nightstand beside my bed, in the bag from the shop, but it wasn’t there anymore. We were leaving early, before the front desk opened. I contacted the hotel later that day, and after a lot of research, they found it in the trash that had been taken from our bedroom the day before. The cleaning team thought it was garbage so it was thrown away (it didn’t look like garbage, and it was far away from the trash bin…). But we were so happy they had found it, and said it was in good condition (it was protected by a cardboard and there wasn’t much in that garbage). I asked if they could bring the painting to Cañas where we were for the night, or at the Liberia airport because we were leaving the next day. They couldn’t. I asked if they could mail it to Canada and they said yes, no problem. Two months later, after multiple messages, they still haven’t mailed it, and don’t answer most of my messages anymore. I would not recommend this hotel. Edit: they mailed the painting after I wrote this negative review, and I just received it one month later.

We enjoyed our stay at Rancho Cerro Azul. The location was great and staff was very accommodating! We did a few tours and were able to get picked up at the hotel for all of them. We enjoyed the private patio and listening to all the wildlife. It was also great to have AC. The rooms are a bit dark. We did notice that the bathroom air got a little “stale” or musty, even with the daily cleanings. None of these things ruined our trip by any means, but just suggestions for improvement. 🙂

Best hotel!! We had a hot tub and it was super private at the end of the property. The bed was comfy and beautiful shower. Great location too!
