We stayed at the hostel for three nights. It was a relatively good value because our family of 4 filled one bunk room so we didn’t have to share with strangers. The bathrooms were clean, showers were hot and had okay water pressure, and they have two camp kitchens with refrigerators, stoves, sinks, hot water boiler, cookware, and a lounge/eating area. Location was close to hiking trail heads, but a bit of a walk from the bus station and best food options, but El Chalten is small so everything is pretty walkable. Breakfast at the restaurant started at 6 am. It was okay portion sizes, but not great. The toast was plain and crunchy and the eggs were runny and had no seasoning. Unfortunately El Chalten doesn’t have many breakfast options that open early to eat before hiking. This was fast and convenient. The room wasn’t very clean. The trash can still had trash from the people before us. The curtains, linens, and walls had stains and dirt on them. The pillows were lumpy and the mattresses were terrible. Mine was sagging in the middle from too much use. We all inflated our camping air mattresses to use for our stay. They do daily housekeeping which we didn’t expect. When we returned from hiking, the window of our first floor room was wide open and the lock on our door wasn’t working. They came to reset the lock, but anyone could have stolen our things so bring a lock for the boxes they provide and keep your valuables with you. We booked on booking.com. They give a 10% discount if you pay in cash when you check in and accept USD so bring that or you can pay the extra with a card in pesos.
