The resort is a bit dated but serviceable nevertheless. We had a garden view room which was quite small. The wardrobe door was difficult to open. The sheets were polyester/cotton which is not ideal for a tropical climate🥵. The bathroom space was adequate and the shower was good. ||Our biggest issue with out stay was being woken in the night by the noise of other guests. When we complained to reception their advice was to ring reception in the middle of the night so they could send security. I would suggest that security be regularly monitoring the resort to preempt any issues and stop them before other guests are impacted by the inconsiderate few. Breakfast was ok. ||The lagoon is outstanding for snorkeling. You don't need to be staying at the resort to access the sanctuary. We were concerned to see staff and guests randomly throwing food scraps into the ocean to feed the fish 🤷🏼‍♀️. ||We had booked airport transfer when we made our reservation and sent a follow-up email for confirmation. We never received confirmation and had to organise our own transport from the airport. ||The price of doing laundry was very steep. $18 NZD to do a wash and dry ! |Overall I think the resort is suitable for families but if you're looking for a relaxed, quite stay I think some of the adult only resorts would be a better option.

Sadly the complaints from previous guests have fallen on deaf ears as the problems still unsatisfactory | This large resort needs a mountain of work , tired rooms, worn out decor, furniture, facilities, etc children’s water play area dangerous and has no supervision | The Restaurant is pub food | The food and drinks reasonably priced | The reception is not welcoming, and lucky to get a hello (Kia orana )when walking past in or out past reception | Our room on checking in had mosquitoes, I asked reception if I have fly spray for me to use , the reply was , I could buy a can at their gift shop ($15) , that’s not a 4 star answer , luckily I seen a room cleaner who showed me there was a can under our vanity in our room | The resort offers a $10 per day refund on your bill if you select to clean your own room and use existing towels which we elected by signing daily the card in your room | I think the resort could be understaffed and no urgency (don’t say because island time ) with some unhappy faces | The breakfast was adequate and good enough to get the day started for most people and a decent choice | The gardens are well maintained as is the outdoor path ares | Weather permitting (the wind) the beach snorkeling and water sports lagoon very nice | There is free open parking across the road from the resort which is very handy | | Would I stay again ,No

The good: * Having access to the Sanctuary next door was a godsend. * Comfy clean bed and pillows. * Beach access to the lagoon, snorkelling and swimming * One or two of the wait staff and reception staff stood out ... but not much more in the way of service - a very mixed experience. * Nice gardens. The average: * The inability of most of the reception staff to even look up from their job to greet people waiting; smiling seemed like an effort. * Room attendants did a reasonable job, when pushed. The poor: *Rooms are very tired, dated and small. There is barely any room on one side of the double bed to get out. Very dark inside room, whether upstairs or downstairs. It might have been better at the Sanctuary. * It's essentially a family/kids resort with 100's of rooms. So don't expect peace and quiet around the pool or even at the beach. * Restaurant food variety is OK, but like anywhere on the Cook Islands, green vegetables and salad is a rarity. Advertised Vegan options were "unavailable". * No matter where we ate, or at what time, the food service was VERY slow. * Reception staff were pretty useless (with the exception of the guy on the RHS nearest the shop) and despite being asked 3 times, forgot to cancel one of our tour bookings, causing great inconvenience to the operator.

The Rarotongan beach resort is by far one of the best family resorts we have ever stayed at. Every single staff member is beyond friendly and lovely. My sons aged 1 and 3 thought of them all as friends, especially Akuila, Meli, Kally, Sake and Sereana. They looked forward to seeing them each day and really made our resort stay enjoyable and easy. |The breakfast buffet was incredible with a fantastic selection of food, as was the cocktail menu. |All the staff went out of their way to be as helpful as possible, and booking out of resort activities and experiences around the island was made easy as they sorted it all out and booked it for us. |The resort has a cheap bus that comes twice an hour that goes around the island so seeing Rarotonga is stress free.||If I could rate the resort and its fantastic staff higher than 5 stars for a family vacation I could.

Beautiful views and the staff work really hard; even raking the beach every day. The breakfast is amazing, but the food & drinks are very expensive. The weather wasn't the best unfortunately, yet the adorable dogs were very welcoming. The rooms are a bit tired and in desperate need of renovation, but the cleaning services are fantastic!

The Rarotongan Beach Resort is a pretty resort with very much of an island vibe. It's located on a gorgeous beach, Aroa Beach, and it's the only large resort on that part of the island. The resort covers a fairly large area and the different room "wings" are spread out and separated by open spaces. I was a little confused by their room designations and booked a "beachside" connecting room for my family. I thought it was going to be partial ocean view. But "beachside" really means no ocean view. It was fine, though. We overlooked a nice sort of sand courtyard. The Rarotongan has a variety of room types to choose from. In particular, they have a series of connecting rooms you can book in multiples. We had two interconnecting rooms for our family of four. You can get up to five (I think) if you have a large group, though. They also have a few small detached villas within the complex, and a house across the street between the parking areas. The house is so well hidden that I didn't even realize it was there for a couple days, even though I parked the car near it. The resort has wifi free throughout, even though their webpage mentions something about a paid plan. The speed might not be what you're used to at home. But the coverage is very good. It works all the way to the edges of the beach, just in case you absolutely need to connect while you're laying out there. (I just checked the signal out of curiosity. I didn't actually use the wifi on the beach.) There's a restaurant on site with a large menu. However, they don't have wait staff. Instead, after looking at the menu you place your oder at the bar. They give you one of those wireless buzzers to alert you to pick up your oder at the kitchen area near the pool tables. There are trays, silverware, etc., over there too. I agree with other reviews that say the rooms are a bit dated. However, they're perfectly fine in you're not expecting absolute luxury, the air conditioning works well, the resort has UV treated water plumbed throughout (we still drank bottled water though), and the housekeeping staff was very attentive. All the staff are extremely nice and friendly. That seems to be a Cook Islands thing, and it's one of the reasons a vacation there is so relaxing. I would definitely stay at the Rarotongan Beach Resort again. I should mention, though, that in the last 20 years, there's been significant erosion of Aroa Beach. It's still gorgeous. But now, instead of a gently sloping beach, there's a bit of a steep step down at the top. And some of the coconut trees look like they'll be washed away in the next big storm.
