We had a great experience here! The location is fantastic because it is right on the water with a great view of the bridge. The service was very nice and fast. The food was also very good. We ordered the roasted chicken and the original bratwurst with potatoes and both were super tasty! I think the best part about the meal was that they seated us on a large round table with a few other gentlemen and we made some great friends and got great recommendations for our time here in Luzern. We ought to join tables more in the states, it was lovely to meet new people over a meal.

Google
Great food with a view of the water and people. The bratwurst, spatzelle and pork chop were all perfectly cooked and had good flavor. Definitely a good spot to stop in Lucerne. The house beer was good as well. Outside is first come first serve, but inside takes reservations.

Ambot Lng S.

Google
Had a meal here and ordered the steak-surprisingly good, cooked nicely and full of flavor. Definitely a highlight. Only downside: the fries were pretty stale, which was a letdown considering the rest of the dish was solid. A bit more attention to the sides would make a big difference. Nice location overall, and worth a visit if you’re in the area -just maybe skip the fries.

Google
Service was great and quick. Food was served fast as well. The ambience and decor makes the place feels grand but casual. Must try their cloudy beer which taste great alongside the meat options.

Google
Our first trip to Lucerne and on a recommendation from a friend tried the Rathaus and what a great choice! Our waitress (young lady with died hair was phenomenal!). She offered to take our picture with the city and river in the background and was so attentive to us throughout our meal. The food was amazing as well (try the bratwurst!) if you're looking for a great dining experience for lunch or dinner try the Rathaus!

Chris H.

Google
Excellent Bavarian cuisine! Craft beer and atmosphere are top notch. Bring your appetite, portions are generous 🤤

Lulu I.

Google
We are particularly fond of the restaurant’s ambiance and location. While the service may be somewhat slow, the quality of the food is well above average. We must also commend their delectable pretzel.

Kamie A.

Google
We spent one night in Lucerne, and this was our restaurant of choice. The staff was friendly and very welcoming. The food was excellent and the beer was refreshing. It was a wonderful experience for both of us.

Yelp
If you're searching for a spot to grab a brew and a bite, or even a full meal, then Rathaus Brauerei is your spot! For a full meal make sure you get a reservation a day ahead (at least) but for a quick bite on the outdoor patio it's just walk on up! That's what we did - we found a table and sat down. Our server was a delightful young man who spoke full English and was all smiles the entire time. He knew what we wanted without any trouble and he was always around when we needed him. The menu has a ton of great options, you can't go wrong. And everything we had was tasty! The portions are decent and the prices are nothing crazy. But the beer is cold and hits the spot! Speaking of the spot... the outdoor patio is covered (great for any weather) and they even have blankets you can use if you're cold. The views of the Kapellbrücke are phenomenal and you get to just sit back, relax, and take in the sights of the city. Great people watching! We are big, BIG fans of Rathaus and nearly considered it for a second visit on our trip because the dining room looks like a whole experience in itself! Get a reservation or just walk over, you'll love it!

Yelp
Came at the recommendation of the Viking cruise host at our hotel for views and menu of sausages. Wasn't disappointed good beer, sausage and pretzel and potatoes. Yea being across from the bridge a tourist trap with half of the customers sounding like tourist and the other sounding like local enjoying the good views and ambience. The poor waiter was so overworked and made for slow service and even slower food arrival is why - a star.

Yelp
I enjoyed eating at this restaurant and recommend it for the food. Everything I ordered was delicious! The Rotisserie "Rathaus chicken" (500g) 1/2 Swiss Gourmet chicken with herb-butter-sauce, served with herb potato slices were fall apart tender. The potato wedges were crispy and seasoned well, best potato wedges I've has so far. I thought the Swiss veal "Cordon bleu" (300g) with dry cured ham from Muotathal and fried cheese from Nidwalden, glazed carrots and butter noodles were ok. The Ratskellertopf incorporated Juicy beef shoulder filet, bone marrow, frankfurter and Rathaus beer sausages, served in a stock pot with vegetables and potatoes, home-made horseradish mustard. Very comforting and thoroughly enjoyed. You can't leave without having the Beeramisu "Fortissimo" dessert. So delicious! The Apple strudel with vanilla ice cream was good. I would have given it a 4-star rating, but the service was unorganized upon arrival and while waiting to be seated. I had to ask someone for help as I stood waiting to be checked in while being passed by the workers. We were sitting indoors, and it was pretty warm inside. There were also irritating flies around.

Yelp
As we toured Lucerne, we knew we'd stop somewhere for lunch. We were hungry and with 6 people in tow, my wife and I made it our mission to secure a dining spot. We walked ahead looking for a table open along the Reuss River. Luckily, we spotted some people leaving and snagged a table with good shade. Our server was around and took our orders. This is a brewery and they make their own beer. They have naturally cloudy, unfiltered beers. It was golden yellow, crisp and had a light fruitiness to it. A kellerbier they called it. 100% Pilsner malts is right up my alley. I also had an amber Marzen that they do in spring time. For lunch, majority of us had the Kasekuche. A warm traditional recipe from the area that is made with Emmental, gruyere and sbrinz. It came with a side salad. While this was good, it didn't sit well with anyone at the table. About an hour later, we needed a bathroom. But the picturesque lunch was beautiful. Sunny, breezy as we looked over the water towards a church and the Kapellbrucke. Lucerne is a beautiful city to visit and Rathaus offered up a good lunch and good beer with friendly service.

Yelp
Delicious bratwurst and beer right by the river! I also enjoy that they have a wine list that is "small but mighty." The beer sausages were tasty, as was the beerimisu (excellent name), and of course, the beer itself!
google avatar

Lo S.

Yelp
Seasonal beers, soft lighting. English menu is available. Open late. Was sat in the back of the restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer, great service, great views and great food. Make this your final stop after an extra-ordinary day, around Lucerne.
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Absolute chaos. Yet they manage to pull it off. Seating is both inside and outside with no real advantage to one or the other. Wait staff is overworked, extremely busy, yet still remain friendly and helpful. But get your order right, because you probably won't be able to flag your server down until it's time for the check. We bought the recommended beer (a light lager), comparable to a US beer. And we ordered pretzel sandwiches. We thought it would be a pretzel bun, but they were served in true Bavarian pretzels. Result? A lot of food spills through the holes in the pretzel. No one cared. A fun stop for a group of tourists. And if you're watching your carbs, "bread" with holes is a good thing.

Yelp
After wandering about Lucerne for a while, viewing the sights, it was time to eat. The Rathaus Brauerei looked appealing and we were greeted in English, so we dove in (after taking advantage of their restrooms). At first we were seated indoors, but I decided I'd rather enjoy the lake view outside, which is outstanding. We both ordered the Lake Lucerne trout specialty - and it was delicious. It was served with butter sauce with tomatoes and capers, rice and salad bouquet with hops-dressing. It looked so good, a passer-by asked us what we were having, then went inside to order his own. Their beer was also excellent.

Yelp
We came here on a whim. We were hungry and walking along the river when we came across Rathaus. Hubs wanted beer and this def looked like the place to get it from. FYI, he said it was great and surprisingly cheap. We didn't have ressies and for a Sunday night when most places are shut down, this place was open and busy. The indoor seating was already full but outside seats are first come first serve so we were able to snag a couple chairs at a communal table. Great views of the river but was not loving the girl next to me's cancer stick smoke slapping me in the face. Luckily a table opened up 15 min later away from her and we moved there. Hubs ordered the chicken and it was amazing. They must marinate that sucker for hours bc it was so juicy and flavorful. I thought I ordered a plain brat but must have had some miscommunication bc it came smothered in gravy and onions. Luckily it was tasty! It came with a side of rosti. Second time eating that and it was crispy! Loved it. The service wasn't quick but looked like our waiter was the only one for everyone that night so he was mad busy. We weren't in a rush anyways so that wasn't a problem for us. When he finally got to us he was always friendly and apologized. But of course when it came time to pay the bill, he pointed out the tipping area. Lols But "only if you want to, no pressure." Awkward turtle but the man deserved the tip so he got it! * I noticed a lot of Swiss restaurants with outdoor seating like this place offer blankets if you are cold. Nice! You have to pay two francs (which is like $2) to use their restroom. Not so nice, I'll just hold my pee pee then...

Cynthia V.

Yelp
We stopped by the Rathaus Brewery while on a tour of Lucerne where we were given free time to explore. It was so cold, but we still didn't mind cozying up on their lovely patio by the river under the provided blankets and heat lamps. I enjoyed their beer; we didn't order any food. Service was efficient, beer was cold and served fast, views were great - what more could you ask for?!
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
We stopped in for an early dinner, and a couple of beers upon our arrival in Lucerne. Our waiter was kind and gracious, and spoke great English. He was conversational and just lovely. All the tables outside on the river were filled, but we had a nice table inside by the window, and we could actually observe the really cool architecture inside. We split the Weisswurst and pretzel - it was absolutely delicious. We really loved the mustard with the pretzel as well. We would recommend the spot because of the ambience and views and also the food and lovely staff.

Yelp
When all other restaurants were too busy or expensive, this place worked out for my friend and I. We sat on their patio and had some basic food and beer. I had a quiche and salad and she had a sandwich on a pretzel. The salad was really good and fresh. The prices were reasonable for the location. We definitely could've done worse!
google avatar

Stacy G.

Yelp
Our group of 4 all enjoyed the same delicious meal. It was so much food no one could eat it all. The service is spectacular and the location was perfect for our first visit to Luzern. The apple strudel with vanilla cream sauce is a must. Enjoy!
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
This place is located conveniently at the main train station. They have a good selection of beers on tap and a greater selection of beer in cans and bottles. We had a great, attentive server. The only downside was a pay bathroom. One franc is reasonable, but you have to pay 2 francs to use the bathroom here

Laken J.

Yelp
Great food and cool environment - The dishes are pretty big, service was a tad slow but our server was very kind! We ordered the beer sausages, cordon bleu and the 1/2 rotisserie chicken. The potatoes with the chicken were amazing!
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
I actually liked the food here better than I had expected. It's right in front of the lake and if you are sitting outside, it's great outside to people watch. They also provide you with a blanket if it's cold out. The food was good and their house beer was on point.

Armen Y.

Yelp
The beer is great. Their food menu is awesome too. I couldn't finish my food. It is a big portion. The waiter was friendly. The environment is great too. We were a large group. It was very convenient and good experience especially the location of this restaurant is great.

Yelp
We love to come here. Mostly in spring or in fall. Less people than in the high summer season, but the weather still nice enough to sit outside. Mostly to enjoy a beer or two. That's what they are famous for. And rightly so, their beer is fantastic, worth every Franken. Our favourites are the "Seidel" (lighter) or the "Weizen" (darker, heavier). Depending on the season there are different special beers. If you feel a bit hungry, I recommend the "Braui Apéro Plättli". A great deal at 24.- and is fine for two. Some meat, some cheese. All good quality items. Last time we went for some wine. Ordered a bottle of Fiano, Li Veli for 56.- A bit heavily priced. But Fiano is so good. Great wine from Puglia, Italy. One of our favourite white wines right now. It's great to have a bunch of drinks here and maybe a bite or two. Staff is nice and friendly. And you just can't beat to location by the river, overlooking the Kapellbrücke und Jesuitenkirche. Luckily we live not far from here. And hopefully it will be open again for spring 2021. We'll be back.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Best authentic Swiss food we have had so far. This sauce and chicken were amazing. They allowed me to switch the original side for the spietzel because I had never had it before. This was the best meal we had in Lucerne. The waitress was very nice and we sat right next to the water. I definitely recommend this spot.
google avatar

Kimi H.

Yelp
Great location, ample outdoor seating. The beers were good and the service was prompt. Sharing tables is practiced here. Get the pretzels. Lucerne cheesecake: savory quiche with Gruyère and Sbrinz cheeses Munich white sausages with pretzel: two mild sausages served with delicious pretzel. Mustard was very good.

Robert W.

Yelp
Absolutely Loved Interlaken... Wasn't totally seeking out Swiss Cuisine but would have to say this was just "average"?? Quality was not equal to prices. Our Waitress was very "Cold" for no real reason as polite as we tried to be? She was more concerned with bussing and cleaning tables and getting the hell off work then "once" checking back on our meal or forget even upselling additional items??? She was "sour" and I'm sure will affect repeat business....or is that we were just Tourist's...one and done! Owner save your business and have some basic Hospitality refresher training.
google avatar

Tami W.

Yelp
What an amazing little find. The people here are so friendly and the food is carefully and thoughtfully prepared. Everything is fresh and the cheese was creamy and amazing
google avatar

Flo S.

Yelp
Great portions when it comes to food! The wife couldn't finish her plate and I barely got through mine. Beer is also fantastic. Waiter was quick and efficient, and the environment was lively, and busy! Overall, a fantastic experience,
google avatar

Tani R.

Yelp
Food and drinks are a bit pricey but they do taste good, service wasn't the best but understandable because it was a full restaurant. Amazing location right near the river and they have blankets if u sit outside.
google avatar

Chun P.

Yelp
We came to this popular brewery twice, and both times it was filled with with locals and tourists alike. Both times were served by friendly and lovely waitresses. This brewery makes just two beers, a lager and fruity amber beer that can't be found anywhere else. Its also one of the few Luzern restaurants open late on a Sunday night in a country that mostly closes down on Sundays. Visit #1: Large 500ml Amber beers are delicious and priced at a reasonable $8.50. We also shared an $11.50 apple strudel, which was sweet and spectacular, and presented beautifully...get this! Visit #2: Dinner! We got Amber beers again, yum! $26.50 Farmers Sausage and Rosti...this thing is long, thick, meaty, and delicious. The Rosti potatoes made a perfect hearty side, and the best Rosti I had in Switzerland. $33 Luzern Trout...fresh grilled local fish covered in a creamy lemon sauce...delicious! It also came with rice and a nice fresh side salad. At the end of this dinner, the waitress spent 5 minutes trying to fix our bill because she overcharged us by 50 cents. We told her not to worry about the 50 cents, but she was determined to fix it, and she did. Lovely gal! Brilliant! While these prices might seem high, this is Switzerland, and tax and tip are already included in prices, so its actually quite reasonable here. We left that last waitress at extra $2 because she was so darn nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Was the beer very good, yes. Was the view amazing, yes. However, we were sitting for about 25 minutes, beers already served before they told us we had to move so they could set up for a private party. Didn't offer to give us another seat and honestly we should have just left. But we sorted it out and sat in what I'd call a wind tunnel, which was a bummer. I really wanted to go here and I really wanted to love it, but we were largely ignored for the next 30 minutes before another waiter came over and asked where our waiter was, Idk. Maybe pop in here in the afternoon for a beer, but I'd swear away from sitting down and eating dinner.
google avatar

Jeff N.

Yelp
The Bratwurst was one of the greatest meals I've ever eaten. The House beer is very fruity and light. the server gave us excellent advice on what to pick and the outside tables have an amazing view of the River.

Phillip S.

Yelp
Maybe coming from the US I expected better service but I was very displeased with how they handled our dinner. I ordered something that I definitely didn't understand because it said "filet" I expected a steak-ish type dish rather than a soup and immediately after it was served I asked if I could change it to another dish. No empathy or anything from the manager and basically said "it's made. If you want something else we can get it but we'll charge for both." Took one bite to give it a chance and it was not good at all. Sat while the rest of my family ate and grabbed something from another place later. ALSO, received attitude from the servers when we asked for the bill. Had to ask several times before anyone ever showed up with it. Really terrible service and if the food was even remotely decent, it would have made up for it; if it didn't.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite meal I had in Switzerland! Definitely do yourself a favor when you're in Luzern check this place out for a drink or proper meal. Authentic and delicious food, delicious beer, fair prices (by Switzerland standards), friendly wait staff. This restaurant has great outdoor seating with a view of the bridge and snow capped mountains in the backgrounds as well as a cozy interior that has a true beer-hall feel. The vats that are used when brewing the beer (twice weekly) are on display in the main area of the restaurant. Our waitress was very welcoming and made our dining experience a pleasant one. We did not feel ignored nor rushed, and she took the time to ask us where we were from and what are plans were for our holiday. I found most of our waiters/waitresses in Switzerland had been rather indifferent or plain rude so it was a great change of scenery. The food was delicious. I've had German spatzle before but it was never this light, delicious, or pretty to look at. The sausages were cooked perfectly and paired super well with the tangy mustard it was served with. Lastly, the apple strudel was a perfect way to end our dinner after a long day of hiking. It was served warm, topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
google avatar

Trina W.

Yelp
Great food, fun service, fresh beer; is there more needed for a perfect fall evening? The menu was all in German, the portions are huge! Two very hungry people can share with no problem. Outside is open and community style seating. The bier (see what I did there?) list is on the back of the coasters. They will pack you a 2 litre bottle to go in case you want to chill at your hotel and not keep buying rounds. We had the half chicken plate, the Pilsner and sommer beers and it was all with great service.
google avatar

Ulrike L.

Yelp
Pretty delicious sausage and all the fixings. Good food for fair prices . I ate there twice and it was consistent and would definitely recommend.

John W.

Yelp
Great service and beer, food was pretty good as well. Staff were super helpful, spoke English and the restrooms were clean.

Albert N.

Yelp
The waitress is very rude, do not spend your money, it's not worth it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hannah H.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday in summer with some friends. Drinks were fantastic! We shared beers and wine and no one had a beverage they didn't like. As for the food, I had the Rösti and sausage. I enjoyed the dish, but may have been a bit heavy for lunch. We also had the half chicken (delicious with a thick gravy!), Nürnberger sausages with sauerkraut (also good), and the Bretzel mit Lachs. I wouldn't recommend the pretzels. They are very average in my opinion, especially if you've ever had pretzels from a German bakery. If the weather it nice, sit outside! The view is great and it's nice to enjoy the fresh air and a beer. Service was exceptional!
google avatar

Kristian L.

Yelp
I just went to this place to dine with my tour group. Overall, my Switzerland experience was amazing up until I set down to be served at this restaurant. The waitress was so rude. I don't think she likes people of colors. She was beyond rude. I've never experienced service like this in anywhere in the world. I spoke with their manager and I don't know what kind of steps they will take to educate their employees how to treat their customers. I would never recommend this restaurant to anybody because of these reasons. I couldn't not even finish the meal because I was so upset. If I was the owner of this restaurant I will re-train my staffs so that I could better service people.

michael b.

Yelp
We spent a day in Luzern and had the best day, Lunch at Rathaus was great , we had a pretzel sandwich and a big meat and cheese platter, and later on we had beers on the water, server was very nice as well. We sat outside to eat and was really nice.
google avatar

Chris Z.

Yelp
Located at the Luzern river with a large indoor and beer garden outside facing the river with a view on the famous Kapellbrücke aka Chapel bridge from the 14th century, the view on Mount Pilatus, already is amazing. They brew two beers, a Zwickel house beer and a seasonal which we had both. My wife tasted the Swiss cheese platter with home made bread and I had the Swiss sausage salad, both good and for Switzerland fairly priced.

Mare S.

Yelp
Amazing fun atmosphere. It was recommended by a conductor on the train. Food was plentiful and delicious
google avatar

Louis R.

Yelp
I'm not sure if this spot is still open because I hit it one night, and it was packed as hell...but then it wasn't open the following two nights. whatthefuck Anyway, this spot has - vast beer selection - terrific views of the Luzern Canal - front-and-center views of the Swiss chicks walking on by - prompt and friendly service - outdoor seating that is covered by the building, so F U rain The tomato soup was fuckkkkkkindeeeelish and the brat and pretzels are clutch(ugh). If this spot is still open when I return, I'm totally down to drank/eat a shitloadmore. Be like Louis R, travel to Switzerland.
google avatar

Robert T.

Yelp
Weisswurst served in hot water was certainly odd, but the taste was superb. Paired with a pretzel and German style mustard really complimented the home brewed beers. Rathaus Brauerei was right on the river near Chapel Bridge and it certainly was a pleasant site. The interior is rustic and semi modeled after a beer hall but with some strange and unique decorations that are rather indescribable, you will have to see for yourself. We found a wonderful seat that was inside, but was a foot away from the outdoor seating which held a perfect view. I personally tried two light flavored beers and one amber, they were all great. We had four different kinds of wurst here, and other than the weisswurst they all had a pleasant smoky flavour. I would highly recommend if you're in the touristy part of the city!
google avatar

Irene S.

Yelp
We came by for beer the 1st night and back again on the 2nd night for dinner and beer. Initially thought it's just a drinking place and I wasn't expecting much for the food. But it turned out to be quite good. It's right next to the river, hence view, beer and food. What more can you ask for. Btw, do try the Apple strudel if you have room for dessert.
google avatar

Conrad B.

Yelp
Visited 06/30/2017. Stopped by here just for a beer but ended up eating dinner too. My son had the weisswurst with a pretzel while his girlfriend had the Nuremberg grilled sausages on sauerkraut I had their buurebrat sausage with rosti (good, but not as good as mom's rosti.) My wife had their pork chop which she enjoyed very much although the potatoes and veggies were a bit bland. Great view overlooking the lake for "people watching". If your in the area this is a great place to stop for a beer and a bite to eat.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Review based on the beer, not the food menu: this place could be a real tourist trap, given its location right on the Reuss and down from the Kapellbruecke and Rathaussteg. But it's not. The beer is truly outstanding and changes seasonally. They obviously care about what they are doing here when they brew beer. What we did was to go to the bar in the back of the restaurant, in front of the brewing vats. We liked this place so much that we made two visits (without reservations) and were able to snag seats at the bar both times, often as locals left to make their way home in the evening. Bar tender, very friendly, actually remembered us from our previous visit and welcomed us back when she saw us back again. Definitely worth the visit, for the beer alone.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
The location is what drew me in initially. It is situated right on the water and has a great view. The food is good. I had the pretzel and sausage and it was very tasty. The real star here though is the beer. They make their own beer and it is delicious. It was probably the best beer I had in Switzerland, and I wish I could go have another right now. The place isn't cheap, but nothing is in Switzerland. I think prices were very reasonable considering the location. The service was good, and they even give you a blanket if you are sitting outside and get cold. Make sure you try the beer.

Mike G.

Yelp
Nice place for lunch. Two choices of beer, a light lager and a wheat bier. I tried both. Just Ok nothing special. I had the sausages and pretzel. It was good but not quite the sausages I was looking for. Difficult figuring out what was what on the menu. My wife had the pretzel and ham which was very good. Worth trying for lunch.
google avatar

Mad M.

Yelp
German hall style restaurant by KORNMARKT. Service decent and friendly. Beer was cold?
google avatar

Jacklin A.

Yelp
Great location, prices aren't terrible compared to some of the other restaurants located directly on the water. The roast pork pretzel was tasty and the sugar waffles for dessert were pretty good. Service was very very very slow- waited 20 minutes to even get menus.

Yelp
We loved this brewery! We stopped in for two large beers and plain pretzels and it was a perfect afternoon stop. We got there around 4pm and it wasn't too busy to get a seat outside, so we were happy having our own outside space. I would highly recommend this restaurant to beer lovers from around the world!
