You can stay at a "Chain motel" at the freeway offramp anytime and pretty much anywhere. Its not every day you have an opportunity to stay at a place like this. Our room was clean and comfortable and the coffee the next morning was excellent. A very nice couple runs the place. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on my next venture through town.

Google
This is motel was recommended & glad we took the advice to stay here. The old time feeling of the Wild West with mid century decor and modern clean amenities was very comfortable. The room with kitchenette was a great set up for our family’s needs. The owners were fabulous! Brandy was very accommodating upon check-in with parking our truck and trailer and ensuring the rooms we had booked online were the best fit for our family. Michael asked how our stay was going when we saw him in the evenings upon our return from hunting. The rooms are clean & tastefully decorated & daily house keeping was appreciated. Highly recommend this hidden gem of a motel in Raton!

We enjoyed our stay for one night before finishing our trek to Northern Colorado. It was a memorable experience and super comfortable, clean, and warm room. I am not sure what cleaning products or fragrances they use but I really liked the smell of the room which is a weird thing to write but it’s true! I enjoyed coffee in the morning with other guests in the office and appreciated the home grown pears at breakfast. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed here on our way to go skiing. Michael was so friendly and the rooms were great. We left too early the first time for breakfast but on our way back home, even though it was 40 minutes out of our way my daughter talked me into staying here again. We stayed for breakfast this time and she was happy. I would definitely stay here in the future. The rates were outstanding also and didn’t break the bank.

Google
This motor inn is AMAZING!! It has charm, it has clean rooms, it has comfy beds, it has more decor than a Disney Resort in every room! From the moment you meet David at the front desk you are transformed into 1956! Love this place! Very affordable! We will return just to stay in the motel for several days to escape the every day grind! Thank you for having a great place to sleep after hours on the road!

Google
We booked this place because of the reviews. Particularly regarding the cleanliness. The price was nice too in comparison to the other establishments nearby. When we got there we were completely taken by surprise. The office itself is like a tiny museum that transports you through various times with their array of antiques. To our surprise, each room is themed with decor to match. The room was very clean and the decorations made it engaging and an entertaining experience itself. The people were so friendly. They're the kind of people you could talk the day away with. We can't wait to go back so we can experience another room, given none are alike. It's not just a place to sleep. It's a destination to rest at on the way to another destination.

Spent a night here because I was on a road trip with my little brother , headed to Monarch Pass Colorado. I can definitely say that this place has been one of the highlights of our trip. It has a very nice Americano/Rodeo/retro vibes which is done very tastefully and in a cool way, the place is very clean and neat. Most importantly I got to meet Brandy and Michael, and they are both wonderful people, I was coming from Miami (Very long trip) and they were very attentive in giving me any help/recommendation to make my trip easier and smooth. They have a very nice booklet with information about the place, the attention to detail is truly unmatched, I travel a lot and have been in many hotels, this has to be the place with the most human and heartfelt interaction I've had. I truly recommend anyone to come here, if you are in the area it's a must stay, I truly hope I'll get the chance to stay there again soon and more time.

Google
Just loved this quaint, charming gem...warmed my tired heart. I felt safe and secure in my room. I brought my pup, Millie and she was quite comfortable too. I got to stay in the "Big Tex" room. King size bed, ice box, microwave and an old fashion key!! ****Brandy & Michael, I enjoyed our conversation in the morning before check out. You, two, have something special. Thank you!

Gabby A.

Yelp
After a long time of being on the road it was so nice to be able to check into this nice little place. I made the reservation the reservation the night before. I wish I would've done it sooner since I would've loved to stay in the Big Texas or El Matador room I stayed at the Pin-Up room. As soon as I walked in I noticed how fresh the room smelled. Nothing too strong, just clean. The room it was nicely decorated to the theme. It also had all the things you would find a a hotel. I loved how the room became completely dark and I was able to get a good nights rest. The only thing is that the next morning with other guest checking out it was loud and made it hard to sleep in. So, I got up and went to the front office and I was able to get some hot tea and read my Bible. They had plenty of breakfast options to choose from. It's more of a grab and go. This area is only open till 9:30. Plan accordingly

Yelp
The Raton Pass Motor Inn is a small, quirky motel on the north end of Raton, New Mexico. The rooms are all very retro in their designs and furnishings. I found the place very interesting. The proprietors are very friendly and accommodating. If you want high-gloss modernity in your room accommodations, this place is probably not for you. But if you want to stay someplace with a memorable, quaint vibe, you will enjoy the Raton Pass Motor Inn. Their rooms each have their own motif. The decor of Room #13 is dedicated to vintage horror movies. I was particularly amused by the shower curtain in room #13 (see the accompanying photo).

Suzanne R.

Yelp
Loved this motel.Brought back wonderful memories from my childhood. Clean and taken care of. Very nice owners. Would definitely stay there again.

David V.

Yelp
We were lucky indeed to stay in room "Lucky Thirteen"! My wife is an old movie fanatic, and she was truly tickled with all the retro decor--especially the "Psycho" shower curtain!

Ann H.

Yelp
I always stay here where traveling from New Mexico to Colorado. Everything is so comfortable in the rooms and I love the Route 66 kitschy vibe!! Rooms are always clean and quiet. Owners are great, super helpful and friendly. Like the breakfast and the coffee is always great there too. Recommend most highly!!

Carina M.

Yelp
Quirky and cool spot. They could use new mattresses but this place is definitely cool and clean. The owners seemed pretty awesome as well. I could literally see the deer from the window. Also had breakfast snacks and hot coffee in the lobby. I'd go again.

Jason A.

Yelp
What a cool inn, Michael And Brandy are amazing owners. They make you feel like family and the rooms are great. Each room is themed differently with cool items to make the stay that much more fun. They have an outdoor area to sit and enjoy the weather and views. The area has a fire pit, bbq pit, and a hammock We stayed in room #4 Humans Best Friend, as you can see from the room name it is dog themed. The are pet friendly and just need to be notified while booking. The room itself has plenty of room with a small dresser and desk. There is a tv, mini fridge and microwave to round it all out. The beds are memory foam and really comfortable . At least for me they were. There is an area to walk the pups with bags and a trash can. The views from the Inn are spectacular. Anyway you look at it, the Motor Pass Inn is a great little place that you will love to stay at time and time again.

Gumby H.

Yelp
The answer is yes! Decided to stay here after experiencing tired lodging options in Raton. Absolutely loved it! This is the perfect example of a classic motor inn. It's like staying at your favorite aunt's house with all of the nostalgia. It's not a chain hotel and I couldn't be happier. There is genuine friendliness and warmth from the owners. It's clean, priced well and just what was needed. You park in front of your room if not a space or two away. While the main strip in Raton can be noisy, this is a quiet area of town. Everything in Raton is no more than 10 minutes away. Their website lists room themes and bed sizes. The room of choice on this visit was the Boudoir Room / Pin-up room. King bed, a/c, tv, mini fridge, microwave, clean room and bathroom. Vintage items in the room including old cameras and media and a cool mirrored desk. This gets a definite Gumby thumbs up!

Joel B.

Yelp
Returned for another great stay, off the 25, restaurants shops nearby, great town....went for dinner...to bring here....family of dear out side...Buck, 4-5 Doe's n one Fawn....awesome sight weathers temperate...very nice evening!!! Worth the stay!!!

Kris B.

Yelp
We've stayed here multiple times and have enjoyed every visit. This time we stayed in the "Lucky 13" room we loved the way room was decorated. We will definitely be back! Thanks for the wonderful stay.

Kathleen P.

Yelp
We have stayed here 2x's and will be staying again on our way back home! THIS place is unique funky clean fun friendly guaranteed to provide spectacular backdrops for those that like social media and taking photographs - in the rooms and outside around the motel grounds. The couple that own this epic motel are beyond kind. They remembered us and greeted us with a friendly 'great to have you back!' after being here 1 time 9 months ago! They are happy to give any suggestions of things you are looking for around the town. There is a pizza and beer place walking distance! (Bruno's on Cook). There are an assortment of rooms to choose from. Read about each one carefully on their website. I think only a couple of them are pet friendly. There are limited room, so make plans in advance! I think they stay pretty full.

Cathy G.

Yelp
Stayed in #5 this time. Very clean rooms/baths. Really like the updates. Very refreshing. Always a pleasant experience.

Amy C.

Yelp
We adored this little hidden gem. So enjoyed speaking with the owners and their doggie. our Pup was very comfortable too! I would happily stay here again

Kim W.

Yelp
This Motor Inn is absolutely a gem! It's so clean and so cute! All the rooms are themed! We stayed in the Sombrero room and it is so cute! All vintage which I love! The room was $74 for our queen size super comfy bed! Everything is immaculate! The owners are great and graciously stayed a few minutes over for us to get checked in! They close at 9pm so get your reservations before that time. I will choose places like this over high dollar hotels every time!

Roxanne B.

Yelp
We stayed in room 1 (Santa Fe Trail) on 6/25/2021 and it is an amazing property with great (new) owners!  The room was clean and super sweet.  We loved the decorative touches and comfy beds.  The water bottles and coffee kits were such a nice amenity!  The seating areas around the property encourage guest interaction, but sadly, we were the only ones interacting that night.  We consider this property to be "Blue Swallow, North" and 100% plan to return. Grade:  A

Corky S.

Yelp
Amazing vintage motel with just the right amount of updates. There was a new bed and new furniture, but they retained the coolest original fixtures like the MCM wall light and a pink boomerang patterned countertop. Each room is themed with different vintage knickknacks - some authentic, some replicas. We stayed in a WWII themed room. The main draw is the motel lobby which is really cozy and almost like a museum of cool vintage stuff.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Locally owned and well taken care of. My husband and I stayed overnight to explore Raton and Trinidad. The motel is clean and updated. The rooms are so cool we stayed in a WW2 military themed room. Cool tchotchkes everywhere! The owners are very friendly and offered a lot of recommendations for food and activities. We will definitely be back! We love this part of the country and this place is a perfect spot to stay.

Mindy C.

Yelp
Very cute place-super nice people- clean rooms- great rates! Would highly recommend - we will definitely come back !

Ernst E.

Yelp
The same experience as many years ago. The rooms are clean, the folks are friendly, and the rate is reasonable. I really like the individual touch for each one of the rooms. This time I stayed in Lucky 13. A room themed for B-Horror movies. The beds are very comfortable with firm mattresses. The place is spotless.

BigRick P.

Yelp
Jason and Lori are wonderful people who have come up with a business model that gives one the "feel" that you are on Historic Route 66. The Hot Rods out front, and the decor really contributed to the charm. Visiting with Jason, I felt comfortable, as if I were visiting a lifelong friend. They have PET FRIENDLY rooms which are immaculately cleaned. I will most definitely be staying with them on future trips to the area. Thank you for a wonderful weekend away from home. Rick Parker Fort Worth, Texas

Heather R.

Yelp
Very nice and clean rooms. Economical. Not down with the free breakfast-- ultra processed high fructose corn syrup products, good black coffee. The fake maple syrup and artificial food makes it smell like a nursing home but these are small things one can overlook.

Tamara C.

Yelp
I had made reservations two weeks in advance cause I wanted to experience the 1950's fundamentals of nostalgic Motor Inn. The owners embrace their love of old vintage cars and trucks parked in front of the Motor Inn while inside the lobby are old high fi stereos, wringer clothes washer, wash board, cases of old empty soda bottles, old radios, jute box that still works, bicycles, old slot machine (they give you a silver dollar when you checkout to try at the slot), so much memorabilia to mention. So we (my 2 grandsons on a road trip with me) check in and receive our key that is on a leather key ring showing the # 6 that is the Rodeo Up room. Very clean room with comfy pillows and pictures of rodeo hero's and older wooden chairs. We still have the convince of fridge and microwave in the room. Bathroom is tiled in shower in mint green and pink tile to mid wall that so reminds me of grandmas house. Very clean and well supplied with bathroom supplies.... hair dryer, bath soap, shampoo and tissues. Also no coffee maker as they provide a cup with Folgers instant coffee along with powdered milk and sugar in the cup. So use the microwave to heat up cup of water. Also their was tea too in the cup. We were really tired but needed some food so we stopped back into the lobby office. They gave us a couple suggestions and a wooden type coin that would give a s 10 percent off our bill.... yippee. We went to a great Pizza place on second street that had very good pizza with homemade crust. For breakfast we eat in the lobby kitchen area .... I think was a cafe at some point.... where you sit around a family style sitting to eat your cereal or hard boil egg or yogurt etc. great coffee with cream and sugar is available. Tea or orange juice too. The owners are so swell and helpful to their patrons. What an enjoyable stay. Thank you! Bravo.

Yelp
This was near the halfway point of a cross-country drive, and I couldn't be happier with staying here. We were a late arrival (around midnight), and while the desk isn't 24 hours, they did a great job accommodating our late arrival. The room we had was rodeo themed, with a lot of John Wayne and cowboy memorabilia. Everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was just enough to get you going (I had a banana, granola bar, cereal with milk, yogurt, and juice), even if it didn't have much for hot items. The office has a lot of classic memorabilia and antiques that are fun to see, and the staff/owners were very friendly and accommodating. Took a chance booking this room out of the blue because of its location, and it ended up being a great decision. Hoping to stay here in the future sometime!

Raye K.

Yelp
We stayed in the "Big Texas" room, which did not disappoint -- right down to the massive (California!) King bed! The theming was on-point and included lots of great artwork and other interesting elements. While checking out, the owner even offered up a couple of stickers with that lovely retro logo of theirs to take with me! Definitely a place worth returning to!

John G.

Yelp
Talk about a cool trip down memory lane! This place has such a 1950's vibe! The room was quite comfortable, bed was firm but not like a board. The bathroom was impeccable! The lobby was like the lodge of a campsite - warm, quirky, yet inviting. The owners are AWESOME!! They take a genuine interest in your story and bust their chops to make sure everything meets or exceeds your expectations. What a super experience! Staying here is a definite stop on future trips out west!

Dan C.

Yelp
I have to pile on the bandwagon of great reviews. Owners are so sweet and accommodating. Everything is vintage or looks vintage but still has the modern amenities needed. Rooms were very clean and water was very hot. Nice complementary continental breakfast and coffee in the morning. Even have a local and his dog to talk with in the evening.

Steve G.

Yelp
Really nice retro motel. Each room has a theme and the lobby area is filled with fascinating items. Best retro motel I've ever stayed in.

Susan V.

Yelp
This was one of the best experiences I've had with a hotel. My family was in a bind with our plumbing so we needed a place to stay for the night. The owners were so amazing and welcoming offered anything they could to make our stay great. One of the cleanest places I've ever stayed at and so festive with the themed rooms! I do not have enough great things to say about this place. If you're looking for comfort kindness and cleanliness please make this your stop of choice!! 10/10 would recommend to anyone!!

Brandi K.

Yelp
Super clean! Fun & great price! Nice area for furry family members too. Rooms were large (we were in Big TX). Beds super comfy & did I mention how sparkling clean everything was!? Lots of comfy outside seating areas. Lobby also has a great area to relax along with many fun, vintage items to see. Michael & Brandy have done a fantastic job with this vintage motor inn. We look forward to returning soon.

Veso K.

Yelp
Very cool place and I'm glad we stayed here! Out road trip home to Tx from Colorado was interrupted by a bad snow storm so we ended up staying in Raton overnight. This was a great find! We stayed in room 13. You can tell the owners really care about their business and have added nice features. She was very friendly and her German Shephard rescue dog is awesome! We had a lot of fun staying here! The entire town was so friendly and every business we visited, the owners and staff were great!

Pam S.

Yelp
Third stay and still five-stars all the way! Laurie and Jason, the owners, are friendly and accommodating. Their eclectic, thoughtful, and creative accommodations reflect their love for what they do! For this overnight visit my husband and I stayed in the Pinup Room with a comfortable king-sized bed and a shower with the best water pressure ever! In the morning, we enjoyed visiting with the hosts and other guests over a continental breakfast in the warm, sunny 'office'/lobby. Thanks, Laurie and Jason, for another delightful stay!

Doug B.

Yelp
This place is highly recommended as a clean, well maintained for a good value. Owner/operator Mike and his wife were fabulous in making us feel welcomed and answering all our questions. The office offered complimentary coffee in morning and the place was decorated nicely with retro theme. We stayed in the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid room. We will definitely come back as we travel from Texas to CO.

Fawn W.

Yelp
This motel is a gem! It is a perfect stopping place when driving from Texas to Colorado or points north. Vintage decorations, friendly staff & clean rooms make this an easy choice for lodging. Continental breakfast is included in the low rate. Raton Pass is a quaint little town nestled in the mountains. I would definitely stay here again.

Englethorpe M.

Yelp
Stayed for an overnight visit in December. Fantastic kitchy-cool motel room for a great price. You'll feel just like it's 1970s (or 50s, or 60s -- any decade but the present) when you're in your room or definitely when killing time with fun poking around the office/lobby/coffeebar space that's a converted period building filled with all sorts of awesome tasteful furniture and things. If you like vintage, and you like shabby chic, and you like to be surrounded by both done really well at a great price, then book yourself a room at the Raton Pass Motor Inn!

Amanda B.

Yelp
Such a fun, clean, retro but comfortable spot to stay in Raton. The rooms are clean and the beds are good. Mini-fridge, plenty of towels, and a great heater. Cute touches like candy cigarettes and themed pillows. We were in Just Deserts, but each room had a different theme. And the inn office/breakfast/living space has a great retro vintage vibe. Overall, it reminds us of our favorite Santa Fe stay, the Silver Saddle, which is a huge compliment from us! If we ever find ourselves in the area again, we will be back. And we will recommend to others who are coming through Raton.

Faye W.

Yelp
We were heading to Raton Pass Inn very late so Laurie texted us to make sure we coming since the front desk closed at 9. She was so sweet to us when we arrived. I think every room is different and we got the pin up dolls themed room. I felt like I was travelled back in time. I love the vintage telephone and typewriter. The room was clean and cozy. Everyone should come by and check out the place.

Lucky A.

Yelp
Extremely helpful staff. So happy to support non-chain lodging. Delightfully decorated with an eye to mid century modern funky. Very comfy beds and good coffee in AM. Looking forward to future visits.

Norma L.

Yelp
Great little motel.. They close at 9 so I called them about 8:30 p.m. Not only did they reserved my room for me but they left the door open and put the key on the table. The rooms are cute and carry a theme. The bed had a homemade quilt, that gives the extra charm, and is very comfortable. These vintage route 66 motels are classier than the big chains. Highly recommend it.

W M.

Yelp
We've never given a 5 to any business. This place deserves it! My wife describes it as kitschy. For me it's clean and well maintained. The owners are exceptionally hospitable!! Stay a night or a week, you will not be disappointed!!

Desiree L.

Yelp
This is a well run and super friendly historic motor inn. We appreciated the old fashioned Americana decor as it was spot on nostalgic for us. Even more though, we appreciated the functionality and cleanliness of the entire establishment. These hosts definitely care about their guest's experience. And, the price was fair. Wow, what a welcome combination of things to experience while traveling and choosing lodging on the fly. We can't wait to return!!!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Fabulous motel! I can't recommend this place enough, owners and resident pup are fabulous, the motel is adorable, clean and comfortable. It was exactly what we wanted and the price was perfect. Thank you thank you thank you!

Bob W.

Yelp
Michael and Brandy run the place, and they do a great job. The motel is quaint and unique. The rooms are clean and well appointed, and the heater worked fine for those cool New Mexico nights. The wi-fi worked flawlessly, though just moderately fast. The office is housed in a mini-museum of antiques and collectibles that is fun to walk through. We perused the museum while picking up our complimentary "to-go" breakfast in the office and chatting with the friendly proprietors. The motel is just a 15 minute walk or 3-minute drive from the center of town where there are a couple of restaurants. We recommend Deadeye Kitchen located in the Gate City Craft Bar.

Len E.

Yelp
Last friday I was in Dubai. This Friday I am in Ratón at this motor inn. I prefer Ratón! I can get a beer in Ratón and it's not so humid. There are no super cars in Ratón but there is a 60's era Ford Falcon in the parking lot at the inn. This place is very good, clean and comfy. It's the anti-Embassy Suite, the antithesis of the Ritz. From it's Bates Motel architecture (less the spooky house on the hill above it and the potential to be stabbed in the shower) to its position not even on the interstate but adjacent to the rail line, it's charms are both nostalgic and thought provoking. For example, the toilets are "like new" examples of those from the 50's and are very small indeed compared to those made in these modern times, pointing up just how large we have become. Fascinating and they flush well! I stayed in the "Sombrero Room"; tip- ask for the Sombrero Room. A fun decor that demonstrates this managements sense of humor. Anyone with any sense will like this place. I will definitely be back!

Liz S.

Yelp
AMAZING FIND! We tried to stay here last Wednesday enroute north from Texas to Ft Collins, Co. because of online reviews. Was fully booked so ...here we are the following Sunday enroute south. Cool, Funky, Fun, Welcoming CLEAN!!!! exceeds our expectations...cant wait for the breakfast mañana:) like stepping back into the 50's... onsite owner jan is as laid back as they come ...why would you want to send money to a corporate chain when you can go local/have this 50's motel/road court/quiet lovely experience ($50 tonight - $200 last week at the Raton Hinn Express) duhhhh! ** internet great limited ice but available jan gave me wineglasses and forks:) microwave fridge water bottles ac CLEAN clean clean chairs/tables by ur front door/mountain air that beckons you to hang out OUTSIDE sipping wine and checking email:) This is RARE!!!

Wayne H.

Yelp
The pictures are a good representation of the space. The office is filled with antiques and collectibles. The owners are super friendly! Continental breakfast was simple and fresh. Nothing fancy. The beds were comfortable although our pillows were a bit flat. We would gladly stay here again.

Susan S.

Yelp
Love this quaint restored from the 50's inn. It was clean, well furnished, no weird smells, nicely decorated. Laurie, the owner and mgr is charming and fun. We're Hampton Inn fans, but glad we chose this place. Definitely recommend. .

Shawn C.

Yelp
New owners Michael & Brandy were quite hospitable and friendly. We've stayed here many times under the previous owners and Michael & Brandy have retained all of the funky charm that makes this a unique stopover. It's a bit of a step back in time, quite intentionally. Unbeatable price for a cozy room and light breakfast. If you crave things that are not the same old same old and need a place to overnight in Raton, this is your huckleberry.

Richard J.

Yelp
Delightfully kitschy retro original. Wonderful owner-Laurie! Comfy, warm, spacious room!

Dylan S.

Yelp
didn't stay here, however, i happened to stop in because i was lost and needed rerouting. the customer service was so excellent i had to leave a review. they literally pulled a laptop out and showed me on google earth where to go. step by step. they really care about people. 10/10 management, great spot!
