A true authentic place to eat German cuisine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food tastes delicious and you can try different beers at once. Furthermore there's a little shop in the restaurant where you can buy nice things.

I’m usually not a big fan of ‘traditional German’ restaurants because the stereotypes often prove true. I expected an old-fashioned, typical, slightly unfriendly place — but I was very positively surprised! Ratskeller has a great atmosphere and an impressive menu with innovative, newly created dishes that are anything but boring. We will definitely come back.

It was an amazing experience! The Haxen was absolutely delicious-especially with mustard-and the BBQ beer cocktail had such a fantastic flavor. It was my first beer cocktail ever, and I’m really glad I chose this place for that experience. I especially want to thank the wonderful server with the black ponytail and beautiful eyes. She was incredibly kind and thoughtful, recommending dishes and answering my questions with so much care. Thanks to her, I got to try the Haxen with mustard and discovered the BBQ beer cocktail-both of which I loved. I appreciated her kindness so much that I wanted to find a way to express my gratitude. Since this was my last dinner in Leipzig, I felt a bit sad… but her warm service made it a perfect ending to my trip. If I travel to Leipzig again, I would love to come back here.

I love German food, and the one here is amazing. I was so obsessed with the cabbage (served with Schweinshaxe) that I asked the waiter how to cook it at home. Hopefully, I’ll manage. The beer is delicious too. I’ll definitely come back if I visit beautiful Leipzig again 💕

Charming Local Flavors and Exceptional Service at Ratskeller Ratskeller offers a wonderful mix of hearty local cuisine and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The starters alone are worth the visit—generous open sandwiches loaded with fresh, flavorful ingredients that strike the perfect balance between rustic and refined. The menu includes a solid selection of traditional dishes, each prepared with care and full of authentic regional character. One of the standout choices was the German Weißburgunder (white Burgundy)—crisp, elegant, and an ideal match for the food. But what truly made the experience memorable was our waitress. Her sense of humor, personal touch, and lightning-fast service brought a joyful energy to the table. She made us feel like regulars from the moment we arrived. A place full of flavor, personality, and warmth—highly recommended.

The food is average, nothing special at all. Service is decent. The vibe is nice, but the restaurant is extremely overpriced for what you get.

OMG. Just Oh. My. Gawd!!!! I read the reviews about the sous vide pork shank. I have never eaten pork this fall-off-the-bone, melt in your mouth delicious! The skin was crispy but not hard, but easy to cut. Amazing doesn't describe this meal. The sauerkraut and potatoes were perfect. The gravy was perfect. The meal was perfect. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service is attentive. I will eat here every time I'm in town. That 1,100 gram pork shank, with sides and a bottle of sparkling water was only €30 ($33)!!!! Easily two very large meals. Bravo, Ratskeller, Bravo! One of the very best meals I've eaten in all of Europe.

Traditional German food with both outdoor and indoor seating. Service was prompt and food was tasty. I ordered beef, potatoes, and cabbage which was very nice and filling.

Me and my sweetheart had tickets to a show, the world class Oper Leipzig . We were dressed up and had a reservation, maybe that made a difference? We were given the best seats in the house, got exceptional service. The food here is traditional but done so well. She got a steak, cooked to order. I got a schnitzel witb a puffy light breading. Side dishes all shined. Bonus beer flights. Our waitress knew we had a show to attend. She could not have offered more professional service.

Came here for lunch on a weekday early afternoon, wanted to get the allerlei, but apparently that's a spring / early summer dish. Ended up getting the schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and spaetzle to share with my friend. Both were pretty tasty; schweinshaxe was really flavorful, soft, and juicy while the spaetzle was chewy and cheesy. €15 per dish, service was fine, sat outside, centrally located.

Thwir food is from another world. The German pork knuckle is second to none. Under the crispy skin it was juicy meat. Have to say, this is total surprise in my first trip to Germany. Their beer is also very good. You have to try their Leipzig Gose beer. 5 stars.

Bitterly disappointed. Showed up at our reservation time and as we looked thru the menu, there were no steaks to be found. The reason we had chosen this restaurant was because of its web site that touted their meat. We really never got a satisfactory answer as to why steaks were unavailable, but I'll take that as our fault for not speaking German. So, if you're going there expecting a tasty steak, make another choice. No second chances from our group.

Great food, beer, service, and atmosphere. We had several meals in Leipzig and this was our favorite.

I wasn't excited to eat German food tonight but really enjoyed this place. We started with the burrata cheese with tomatoes and it was delicious. So soft and creamy, so good. Then we had fish, chicken and pork. My pork tenderloin with hash browns was delicious. Really nice flavours with a tasty mushhroom sauce. I'd have it again for sure. Also the pike was good too, and it was enjoyed. The chicken supreme was also finished and enjoyed. The only thing that wasn't great was the dessert, the lemon tart, it was kind of sweet and bland and heavy. I wouldn't have that again. Otherwise a very nice meal here.

There house brown ale was good and I am not a beer guy. Staff was very helpful in providing options for other restaurants

This is, by far my favorite German resturant. Everything about this place is phenomenal. It's generally quiet, comfortable and most importantly the food is fantastic. Not too touristy but because if it's historical significance it's quite popular with everyone.

After a somewhat glitchy start to our visit (the waiter angrily telling us it would be a 30 minute wait and discouraging us from sitting at the bar) we were seated within a minute and pleasantness reigned for the remainder of our evening. Food was a good version of typical fare and prices were fair.

This place is absolutely fantastic! The food is simply the best German food I've ever had! I thought I didn't like German dumplings until I had the Dumplings here- the ones I had before were somewhat tasty but way too heavy. The dumplings here were light and delicious. We had the duck, the pork tenderloin, and the beef roulade. Each was delicious- my pork was super tender and cooked perfectly, the sauces were fantastic. The service was also stellar, our server Robby was super helpful and fun. A throughly enjoyable evening!
