We had a lovely dinner here and loved the beautiful historic indoor dining room space with vaulted ceiling, located inside the old town hall building. They also have lots of tables outside on the square too which is esp busy with a vibrant atmosphere on Saturday. Very traditional Bavarian food on the menu. The pork knuckle was huge and it was absolutely sensational ! Service was great and some English spoken. Popular place so worth booking - very easy online.

We wanted a traditional Bavarian lunch and this restaurant was recommended by our tour guide who's lived in Passau for most of his life. The Currywurst sausage with fries was excellent and the sausages with sauerkraut were very good. We didn't care for the cold sausage salad but the portions were so big we didn't need that dish anyway. The local beer was good but more bitter than what we had in Regensburg.

After a delightful day exploring Passau, my mother and I decided to conclude our adventures with a dinner at the Ratskeller Passau, and it proved to be a wise choice. We both opted for the traditionally Bavarian salad with breaded chicken. The unexpected twist of balsamic dressing, while not typically Bavarian, surprisingly complemented the dish very well, making it quite a treat. We also shared a generous platter of Obatzda with pretzel and bread, which was both hearty and delicious. The coffee, while not the specialty of the house, was decent enough for a restaurant not focused on its brews. Our server, a delightful young lady, was quite attentive, though not all the staff seemed to be at her level. At one point, I found myself fetching my own lemon for water from the bar after a couple of unheeded requests. Considering the location, the view, and the overall experience, the value for money was quite fair. It truly was a fitting end to our lovely visit to Passau.

Very nice Atmosphere inside and outside on the Rathausplatz, especially in warm sunny weather! The service was quick and friendly and showed patience when we couldn’t decide for a while. We were easily able to exchange the dumplings for fries. The menu is both in english and german in a very good and understandable translation so also tourists can easily find something they like. The menu has a wide variety of local / traditional food. The meals were good, just the potato dumplings we ordered were most likely bread dumplings (?) - but the turkey breast was juicy, the pork roast had a nice crackling, and the portion sizes were big and filling. The alcohol free version tastes not quite as good as the flavour of the „real“ beer.

One of the best meals of our trip! Service was great and we felt very welcome despite not knowing any German. The schnitzel stuffed with cream cheese and bacon was out of this world good! And we really enjoyed the apple strudel which was presented so prettily. Oh, and the beer was good, too, not to mention the gorgeous interior. Highly recommend!

Not sophisticated but filling, simple dishes. I felt that the portions were pretty big and even though the selection is not very "modern" I enjoyed my hearty meal. The waitress was very nice to explain to me what a "cheese dumpling" is , she even went back for her phone to translate the recipe and show me pictures. We are pleased.

If you want to feel real bavarian athmosphere, this place is definately THE PLACE. Located in one of the most beautiful building in Passau, right in the a charming plaza in the front of a beautiful bridge over the Danube river, this restaurant is a must for tourists and locals as well. Great food and beer together with nice services. Do not miss the apfelstrudel, is absolutely amazing.

I got a very delicious Lillet, the view to the castle while we drank and had dinner. My hubby’s food selection was ok “ratsherrnplatte” but the Kassler was little too salty nevertheless mine was spectacular “Schweinsbratten” pork meat was sooo soft, juicy and delicious and the skin “chicharrones” the most amazing and crispy I have ever had!!

Yelp
Beautiful place at a wonderful point on the peninsula. Beer and brats and pretzels. Who could ask for more?

Yelp
Enjoyed it. Terrific ambience sophisticated and chic with strong sense of Bavarian identity and tradition. Catch the wall painting of the burning of Passat on 27 April 1662. Service was quick and friendly. They were very accommodating and hospitable. Excellent bier and delicious jagerschnitzel. Egg noodles and vegetables were excellent accompaniments. Wurstl was also great. All in all a great dining experience.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time eating here recently. Very friendly service and very good food. Sat outside with blankets to keep us warm. The beer drinkers chose Dunkel and Gruner Velti; The wine drinkers had the Riesling. Great start. The Wiener schnitzel was excellent as were the kraut salads. The schweinshaxe (roasted ham hock) was good. The goulash was also good. The best part of the meal were the desserts. Generous portions of apple strudel, the mixed ice cream and the affogato.

Yelp
Great service a lot of salt in the food, but great beer and company. Also open later if you are looking for something quick to eat.

Yelp
We were on a cruise and stopped at this restaurant for a beer and light snacks. Did not get a chance to eat but saw the plates being ordered around us and it looked outstanding. If we had more time I would not hesitate to eat here.

Yelp
Good gastropub right on the town hall square serving authentic German food in Passau. We had sausages and sauerkraut, spaetzle and a mixed salad, and the potato salad. Food was good as was the beer (Zwickl is a must - Dunkel was good too). Posted the English menu for those interested - lots of good options.

Yelp
What a great place to stop in for a beer. Sitting al fresco and drinking a local wheat Deutsche bier actually brewed in Passau on a beautiful afternoon in May. Couple that with a wonderful young server and free wifi and the afternoon was complete. We didn't eat so can't tell you about the food but I wouldn't hesitate to eat here.

Yelp
Ok the staff is great and really make you feel welcome even for someone from another county like me. The food is excellent and the plum cake is incredible. Great place to go eat.
